No matter how many boys Claire kisses, she can't seem to find a decent boyfriend. Someone who wouldn't rather date her gorgeous best friend, Megan. Someone who won't freak out when he learns about the tragedy her family still hasn't recovered from. Someone whose kisses can carry her away from her backwoods town for one fleeting moment.
Until Claire meets Luke.
But Megan is falling for Luke, too, and if there's one thing Claire knows for sure, it's that Megan's pretty much irresistible.
With true love and best friendship on the line, Claire suddenly has everything to lose. And what she learns—about her crush, her friends, and most of all herself—makes the choices even harder.
In her moving debut, Rachael Allen brilliantly captures the complexities of friendship, the struggles of self-discovery, and the difficulties of trying to find love in high school. Fans of Sarah Ockler, Susane Colasanti, and Stephanie Perkins will fall head over heels for this addictive, heartfelt, and often hilarious modern love story.
My Review:
First thought about this book? Cute. Summer beach read. It's about a girl who's had 13 first kisses when the book starts, and when it ends, she's had 16, and is in college! And yeah, just her journey along this book, so good!
I loved how it was laid out. We got a chapter, and then we got a chapter of one of her first kisses, going from grade 2, to grade 10. And a few past chapters without a first kiss, but were part of the story, of how she got there.
Loved how we got a reference to the past, and then later on, we actually got to see it happening, like the Megan-(I forget the boyfriend's name, only that it started with C, and his twin brother was one of Claire's first kisses) era, and then on first kiss #9, they make that pact post era, and yeah, just so funny!
I wouldn't want to live in this town. I mean, Claire's labelled a slut, because after she found out that her boyfriend cheated on her, she plots, and then kisses the other 4 of the 5 members of the band in an hour to get revenge, and thus is labelled a slut. She's a virgin. Small town idiocy! Or that of the eventual 16 first kisses, 2 aren't on the lips, and the first was in grade 2, so shouldn't count!
Sot this book was about her kisses, and relationships, and then about her friendship with Megan. And her mom's problems after Baby Timothy died-which was just so sad! And yeah, that it turns out that Luke was such an asshole, like he wanted Megan's body and morals, and then Claire's brain in one body, because he kept comparing one to the other, yeah. And they almost let him wreck their relationship! But it also leads to Claire making the pact with Sam, if they're both single after graduating college, that they'd give dating each other a try! Yeah!!!
Really enjoyed this book, it was just such a sweet, cute, and amazing book! Can't wait to see what she writes next!
