Week 46 Reviews: For a Few Demons More, The Outlaw Demon Wails

From Goodreads:
Despite dating one vampire and living with another, Rachel Morgan has always managed to stay just ahead of trouble...until now.

A fiendish serial killer stalks the Hollows, and no one living in or around Cincinnati - human, inhuman, or undead - is safe.

An ancient artifact may be the key to stopping the murderer - a mysterious relic that is now in the hands of Rachel Morgan, fearless independent bounty hunter and reckless witch. But revealing it could ignite a battle to the death among the vast and varied local supernatural races.

Rachel's been lucky so far.
But even she can't hide from catastrophe forever.

From Goodreads:
To save the lives of her friends, Rachel did the unthinkable: she willingly trafficked in forbidden demon magic. And now her sins are coming home to haunt her.

As Rachel searches for the truth behind a terrifying murder, an even greater menace threatens, for the demon Algaliarept will stop at nothing to claim her, and the discovery of a shocking family secret throws Rachel's entire life into question. If she is ever to live free, Rachel must first walk willingly into the demonic ever-after in search of long-lost ancient knowledge.

But when you dance with demons, you lay your soul on the line...and there are some lines that should never be crossed.

My first review of For a Few Demons More, The Outlaw Demon Wails
My Review:
Absolutely loved rereading these books, thought they are the hardest to read of all the series that I've read, what with Kisten's death and all! Which is probably the lowest point in the series, for Rachel, because between all her boyfriends, and everything that is going on, Kisten's death was the worst for her.

Knowing that he was dead, but that she didn't remember it, that she thought that that day was going to be good, because she was going to arrest Trent-and at his wedding, no less-well, yeah, on one hand, we're happy that she gets to do that, on the other, we know the pain that's coming. Hard!

I had forgotten that they put the living essence of the focus in David, but I had remembered that Takata was her biological dad, so those are some of the big changes between these 2 books. And I'm glad that both things happened, and that she knows about them!

But with the Takata stuff, is I had forgotten that her dad, Monty, had been human. I just had this weird idea about the different witch magics! So yeah, that was a great thing to reread! Also forgot that it was Rachel's mom that had left the demon books, books that her dad had collected! Loved!

Ah, the coffee shop! I'd forgotten that the one that they went for those great coffees was the same one that they made the deal to leave the I.S. together back in Dead Witch Walking! Just a great little thing to have going on! Loved it!

One important line for The Witch With No Name, I believe, is "I started to wonder if the thin, hunched figures that were becoming increasingly bold were elves or witches that hadn't crossed over. Escaped familiars, perhaps? They had auras, but the glow was loose and irregular, like torn clothing. It was as if their auras had been damaged from trying to live in the toxic ever-after." Or having been split from their bodies, the undead vampires?

Favourite lines from For a Few Demons More: "Jenks's cat Rex padded past me, curiosity doing its best to fulfil it's promise." Love how it's been worded! "You look so...organized." Well, yeah, why not? Keasley would be happy with fish sandwiches every night, but honestly, the man wouldn't know fine food if I put it on his tongue and chewed it for him." Since I don't like fine food, I'm with Keasley! "Maybe that's why I keep making such stellar decisions I my won love life, I thought, smirking at the idea of Jenks coming out on a first date with me and grilling the poor guy. Then I blinked. He had warned Kisten to behave himself when I went out with him that first time. Damn, had Kisten gotten Jenks's stamp of approval?" Apparently! So cute! "Quen was an elf, too, which made four that I'd ever met. Not a bad for a species that was playing extinct." Yeah, pretty good! "Please? Since when does Trent say please?" That's a good question! "It would really grill Ellasbeth's tomatoes if she was forced to make you one of her bridesmaids." Yeah, that would be great! "Don't touch me. You touch me again, and I'll...I'll do something!" Maybe come up with that something, first? "Holy crap, Rache. How did you become Cincy's assassin of choice?" Apparently by having 3 people that she didn't like, end up dead! "Ha! That will be the day." and "...trying not to think about his thigh ass and how he showed it off in a tux. My heigh looked good against his class, and it would be fun to get Ellasbeth's kickers in a knot." Slow dancing with Trent! Yeah, I think it'll happen! And I think that was the first real casual mention that she could be attracted to Trent, that's not really a comment on his looks, not really! "'Thank you, Jenks. But it would never work. Your body is not as big as your heart, and much as I'd like to think I am a soul and a mind, I have a body that needs to be satisfied as well.' 'The hell I'm not big enough! You just ask Matalina. Never mind.'" So cute! "Don't you watch the soaps? The richer yo are, the more you dress down. Trent will probably be in a swimsuit." That would be something to see! "Yes, well, it's not like I want to marry you." Well, not now, but soon! "Because I'm going to arrest the groom, and I didn't want the I.S. stopping me en route." This is so hilarious, but so sad, because she thought that it was going to be a good day, but she doesn't remember what happened with Kisten. Which I guess is good, as that gets her through this! "Hi. I'm at the Kalamack wedding Everyone's listening. Whatcha got?" That is so awkward, I could never do that! So funny! "Trent, remind Quen what happens if he interferes with me. I've got a warrant. You have the right to remain silent, but I doubt you will. You have the right to an attorney, which I imagine Quen will be calling soon. If you can't afford one, hell has frozen over and I'm the princess of Oz, but in that case, one will be appointed to you. You understand your rights that the entire congregation of Cincy's finest has heard me recite?" I loved her commentary to it! "He slid the paperwork in with the requisitions for the company picnic. You're invited, by the way." Smart, Glenn! "Yeah. I'd be safer on a front line than working with you." That is very true! "Edden started to protest, but upon seeing Jenks already fronst the two Weres, he hesitated. Piscary was next, falling into step behind them. From his corner, Quen closed his phone and rocked forward before Jenks reached him, giving the pixy a nod. Al noticed the mass exodus and joined them, kissing the receptionist's hand in farewell." Go, Jenks! This is just so funny! "God! The man was like Teflon." Yep, this is at least the 2nd time that he's skipped out on a charge she helped take him down for!

Favourite lines from The Outlaw Demon Wails: "Mouse burger. A weenie little man with the courage of a mouse." Nice, original insult, I think! "...and neither of us was trying to kill or arrest the other Huh, How about that?" I can't wait till they move on to more things! "I don't care if you're the prime minster of my girlfriend's ass. Your'e not getting past the gate unless you have skates. See the sign?" Too funny! "After the third time Dr. Anders had stuck her long nose in, I had escorted her out with a twisted arm, telling her if she came back, I was going to break her toes off and jam them up her ass. Quen had gotten a kick out of that." I think most people would! "No one else was going to save me, and I had to fight fire with fire. But then I went sober in the thought that maybe he had a reason for the things he did as well. Damn it, I was too busy to learn another freaking life lesson." Maybe the start of understanding between them! So cute, I want to get to The Undead Pool, like, now! "I said I'd protect you and get you home, but I need you to stop doing stupid stuff. Just...sit there and do nothing!" Yes, this is something Trent needs to be told! "Don't tell Quen, but the jail time was worth it." Most definitely, I can't think of someone who'd want to marry Ellasbeth! "'She's not going to ever love you.' 'I know, but someone might.'" Yeah, like Rachel! "'Hey! You're supposed to be in jail.' 'And your momma wanted you to have a brain.' 'You, ah, having a way with civil servants.'" Yeah, just not one that they like, huh, Al? "'He's my family, bought and paid for. I can claim anything of his. Even his life.' 'That's good to know. Important safety tip. Rachel, write that down somewhere as lesson number one.'" Yeah, good thing to know, seeing it's Newt and Al, and the demons!

So good, loved rereading them, and yeah, I can't wait to reread more-I wants to read The Witch With No Name!!
