Nefertiti was far more than just a pretty face.
Nefertiti may be the dutiful daughter of a commoner, but her inquisitive mind often gets her into situations that are far from ordinary, like receiving secret lessons from a scribe. And she's the kind of girl who acts first, and apologizes later whenever she witnesses injustice or cruelty. But she is also extraordinarily beautiful. And news of her striking beauty and impulsive behavior attracts the attention of her aunt, the manipulative Queen Tiye, who sees Nefertiti as an ideal pawn in her desire for power. Even though Nefertiti is taken from her beloved family and forced into a life filled with courtly intrigue and danger, her spirit and mind will not rest. She continues to challenge herself and the boundaries of ancient Egyptian society.
My Review:
This was a really fantastic book! I loved Spirit's Princess, so I had to check the others out, and this one was the next one I found, and yeah, I'm so glad (because while I'm not reading these in publishing order, I'm going on order of least known, to most!) because this was just an epic book!
Nefertiti, well, she's strong willed, and that gets her into problems. But she's also smart, which usually gets her out of them. Except that the problem of her Aunt, Queen Tiye, it wasn't her personality that got her in trouble, but her beauty.
The downsides are being taken away from her family, maybe to never see them again, her aunt, her betrothed, and her isolation. The upside is her cousin, brother to her betrothed, who was a much better guy them him!
And then there's that ending! Just really need to know what's going to happen next, because that Thutmose accused her of crime she didn't commit, and that with Amenophis, she's going on the run, to the Pharaoh, to tell him about it? Yeah, can someone say cliffhanger?
Such a great book, and I just enjoyed it so much!
