Week 1 Review: The Merchant's Daughter

From Goodreads:
An unthinkable danger. An unexpected choice. Annabel, once the daughter of a wealthy merchant, is trapped in indentured servitude to Lord Ranulf, a recluse who is rumored to be both terrifying and beastly. Her circumstances are made even worse by the proximity of Lord Ranulf's bailiff---a revolting man who has made unwelcome advances on Annabel in the past. Believing that life in a nunnery is the best way to escape the escalation of the bailiff's vile behavior and to preserve the faith that sustains her, Annabel is surprised to discover a sense of security and joy in her encounters with Lord Ranulf. As Annabel struggles to confront her feelings, she is involved in a situation that could place Ranulf in grave danger. Ranulf's future, and possibly his heart, may rest in her hands, and Annabel must decide whether to follow the plans she has cherished or the calling God has placed on her heart.

My Review:
I really enjoyed this book! A nice historical YA, and a really great retelling of Beauty and the Beast, minus the whole trading her kidnapped dad for herself, since her dad is dead, she's working for him for the money, and yeah, it was just awesome!

I really enjoyed their interactions, and their romance, because while she's younger, and he is older, and she's working for him, that kind of situation, it wouldn't be looked upon well now, let alone then, but Annabel wanted to be a nun, and she read from her bible every night. So there was that.

I utterly despised the bailiff,  Tom, because he was crude, a bully, and just a mean person, who mined new depths of depravity. Oh, and her own family! They weren't much better, and yeah, she's the one that going out to work, to pay of their dad's debts, while they're basically doing nothing, I really didn't like them at all!

This was a really great, sweet book, one that I really enjoyed!
