Week 52 Review: Night of the Living Dead Christian
From Goodreads:
What does a transformed life actually look like? In his follow-up to the critically acclaimed Imaginary Jesus, Matt Mikalatos tackles this question in an entertaining and thought-provoking way: with monsters! As Christians, we claim to experience Christ’s resurrection power, but we sometimes act like werewolves who can’t control our base desires. Or zombies—90 percent shambling death and 10 percent life. Yet through it all, we are longing to become fully human, the way Christ intended . . . we just can’t seem to figure out how. Night of the Living Dead Christian is the story of Luther, a werewolf on the run, desperate to find someone who can help him conquer his inner beast before it’s too late. By turns hilarious and heartbreaking, this spiritual allegory boldly explores the monstrous underpinnings of our nature and our quest for Christlikeness.
My Review:
This was a seriously funny book! Like the zombie telling the lone neighbourhood watch that a monster was chasing it, even though most people would consider a zombie a monster? That was hilarious!!! And very, very churchy, spiritual, with all the different monsters being different types of people, their mind-frames, as Christians. So there were deep, reflective parts, too. So it's a well rounded book!
What surprised me was the more fiction way the author approached the mindsets, really only taking it to being a metaphor for the mindsets during the interludes, but for the chapters, it was more fiction, which I really enjoyed, since I'm not a non-fiction reader, and I thought that this book might be that from the first bit of the description on the back. But it wasn't like that. And I liked that!
I really enjoyed the journeys that the characters went on, and how they realized who they were as Christians, where they wanted to go, with a few bumps on the way, or else it wouldn't be interesting, and with the various monsters of the various mindsets. Very interesting!
I really enjoyed reading this book, so if you like spirtual mixed with monsters, check this book out!

Week 52 Review: Speak No Evil
From Goodreads:
Silence is deadly.
The murder of eighteen-year-old Angie Vance was exceptionally vile–her mouth was sealed with glue, an obscenity scrawledwas across her skin, and she was suffocated in a garbage bag. The killing seems personal, so police detective Carina Kincaid focuses her efforts on the victim's much older ex-boyfriend, Steve Thomas. But without physical evidence, Carina can't make a collar or a case. She also can't stop Sheriff Nick Thomas, the prime suspect's brother, from conducting his own unwelcome investigation.
Though Nick is still scarred and unsteady from a recent confrontation with a serial killer, he's determined to prove his brother’s innocence. But his confidence is shaken when he learns of Steve's dark side, and when a friend of the murdered girl meets a similarly gruesome fate. With no time to lose, Carina and Nick work together to trap a psychopath, before another unlucky woman faces an unspeakable end.
Evil has spoken. Now see what it can do.
My Review:
Oh, what a great mystery! I mean, the bad guy was completely creepy to read, and aggravating! Because he's evil, and he didn't really have to be. But then we wouldn't have this wonderful book if he wasn't, so I guess that's something.
But this book has some pretty gruesome, the kills, how they were treated before they were killed, how they were left...not pretty. But then there's Carina and Nick to solve the crime, so nobody else falls victim to the bad guy. Because their end would not be pleasant at all.
These were some pretty fantastic characters, richly detailed, nuanced, real, and characters that I'd like to spend time with, even though they'd problem not want to spend time with me, at gr. 12'er :)
Loved how they solved the case, with great detective skills, and a bit of luck! Because if they'd missed one part, that was pretty crucial, well, things would'v been quite a bit different, and that wouldn't have been the best book, because the characters would'v have been who they were.
I really enjoyed this book, can't wait to read more of this world!!!

Week 52 Review: Beautiful Chaos
From Goodreads:
Ethan Wate thought he was getting used to the strange, impossible events happening in Gatlin, his small Southern town. But now that Ethan and Lena have returned home, strange and impossible have taken on new meanings. Swarms of locusts, record-breaking heat, and devastating storms ravage Gatlin as Ethan and Lena struggle to understand the impact of Lena's Claiming. Even Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals is affected - and their abilities begin to dangerously misfire. As time passes, one question becomes clear: What - or who - will need to be sacrificed to save Gatlin?
Oh, another great book in a great series!!! I so enjoyed this book, it's not even funny! I found it to be even better then Darkness! Because this book went darker, crazier, well, it went into chaos! Things just went wrong, and yeah, that ending? Just about killed me!
Because Ethan was brought back too fast from the dead in Creatures, his soul fractured, leaving half of it in the Underworld (why half? Why couldn't it have been something odd, like 47% or something? Just an odd comment) and that he is the "One Who is Two" who must be sacrificed for Order to come back.
But not before they think that first it's Lena, and then John. Which yeah, isn't too bad, except John almost died. But he didn't, so that's why it wasn't the worst it could pretty much be-senseless death.
Amma get's shunned by the Greats by her attempt to keep Ethan alive. Which was really too bad, because Amma and the Greats, were, like freaking hilarious, and cutting that, well, it's just really sad!
All in all, this was a really great book, and I can't wait to read the last book!!!

For Ethan, the chaos is a frightening but welcome distraction. He's being haunted in his dreams again, but this time it isn't by Lena - and whatever is haunting him is following him out of his dreams and into his everyday life. Even worse, Ethan is gradually losing pieces of himself - forgetting names, phone numbers, even memories. He doesn't know why, and most days he's too afraid to ask.
Sometimes there isn't just one answer or one choice. Sometimes there's no going back. And this time there won't be a happy ending.

Week 52 Review: The Power of Six
From Goodreads:
I've seen him on the news. Followed the stories about what happened in Ohio. John Smith, out there, on the run. To the world, he's a mystery. But to me . . . he's one of us.
Nine of us came here, but sometimes I wonder if time has changed us—if we all still believe in our mission. How can I know? There are six of us left. We're hiding, blending in, avoiding contact with one another . . . but our Legacies are developing, and soon we'll be equipped to fight. Is John Number Four, and is his appearance the sign I've been waiting for? And what about Number Five and Six? Could one of them be the raven-haired girl with the stormy eyes from my dreams? The girl with powers that are beyond anything I could ever imagine? The girl who may be strong enough to bring the six of us together?
They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They tried to catch Number Four in Ohio—and failed.
I am Number Seven. One of six still alive.
And I'm ready to fight.
My Review:
Oh, a great second book in a pretty great series! Though I don't really like the infamous story behind the authors, and some people are saying that they wrote this series by formula and to cash in on the Twilight crazy, well, I love almost all books, so of course, I loved this one!
One thing that I felt upset about was Sarah's betrayal. Or seemingly betrayal, because there has to be something more to it, right? Otherwise, that would just be heartbreaking, I mean, I was really rooting for them in I Am Number Four!!
With that, is the square, between John/Four, Sarah, Six, and Sam, because, well, John and Sarah should be together, and Six and Sam should be together, and not with romantic connections between them, because it's an unnecessary complication that added almost unnecessary conflict ie, the fight with Sarah, and the implication that she's the one that turned them into the F.B.I.
I enjoyed the Spain/#7, Marina's side of the story, which was new, and yeah, we got to see another side of their lives, and how it was like, and new characters, new developments, can't be upset with that, because, more world building, and more potential, and actual, fun!!!
Plus it had almost all the great characters from Four, John, Sam, a bit of Sarah, and a lot more of Six, and I can't forget Bernie Kosar!!! Thought there has been some death, there is still plenty of life, and I can't wait to read some more in this series!
I loved and enjoyed this book, can't wait to read more!!

Week 52 Review: Conflicted
From Goodreads:
In the Elfin world, magic and destiny determine who will be together. "Chosen" pairs are fated to meet at the age of 18.
Keegan, however, is an anomaly. Having fallen in the battle between the Light and the Dark, she is only alive now due to Black Magic, and her bond with her Chosen is broken. She cannot remember Rourk at all.
For the first time, she feels like a normal teenager. She is dating Donald, her long-time crush, and everything seems perfect. But Rourk still feels their bond, and despairs for the woman he was always meant to love.
Keegan’s best friend Anna is determined to find a way to use her powers to return Keegan’s bond, no matter what it takes. The question is does Keegan even want it?
My Review:
Yeah! Such a great book! And a quick read, too! It was different from Coexist, because in Coexist Keegan had the bond, and this one, the bond was gone, and so there was a lot of conflict there, the main plot of the book, the bond, the lack of the bond, and trying to get the bond back. Yep.
We got to really see Rourk, as he is without Keegan, and we see that he's not only protective and loyal to those he loves, he also protects people even though he doesn't really know them, and in the main case, gains a new friend, which was very cute!
We also got to see more of the magical world, and that lead to a view of Keegan that I didn't like so much, it showed that she had some growing up to do, shattering my belief that the year between leaving 16 and entering 18, you're already an adult, though I'm more then halfway through that point right now. Oh, well. I just don't like the comparisons you could make between me and Keegan because we're supposed to be adults pretty soon, and act more mature. And college stuff. Argh!!!!! I don't need any more reminders (though I just decided on a BA in English or something)
This was a really good book, so I hope you guys check it, and the first book, Coexist, and the last book, Consumed!

Week 52 Reviews: Mercy, Exile
From Goodreads:
An electric combination of angels, mystery and romance, MERCY is the first book in a major new paranormal series.
There's something very wrong with me. I can't remember who I am or how old I am, or even how I got here. All I know is that when I wake up, I could be any one. It is always this way. There's nothing I can keep with me that will stay. It's made me adaptable. I must always re-establish ties. I must tread carefully or give myself away. I must survive.
Mercy doesn't realise it yet, but as she journeys into the darkest places of the human soul, she discovers that she is one of the celestial host exiled with fallen angel, Lucifer. From Goodreads:
Mercy's search continues ...
Mercy is an angel with a shattered memory, exiled from heaven for a crime she can't remember committing.
So when she 'wakes' inside the body and life of eighteen-year-old Lela Neill, Mercy has only limited recall of her past life. Her strongest memories are of Ryan, the mortal boy who'd begun to fall for her – and she for him.
Mercy soon discovers that circumstances have forced Lela into waitressing at the Green Lantern, a busy city café frequented by suits, cab drivers, strippers, backpackers and the homeless, while caring for her terminally ill mother.
Just as Mercy is adjusting to Lela's life, her beloved, Luc, reappears in her dreams, and she begins to glimpse her true nature and true feelings for Ryan. What she does not know is that her attempts to contact Ryan may have explosive consequences for everyone around her.
Meanwhile, 'the Eight' — the angelic beings responsible for her banishment — remain determined to keep Mercy and Luc apart, forever …
My Review:
Oh, oh, oh, I just loved these books! Awesome angel books, about Mercy, an angel that fell, and to atone, is put into human bodies just before something bad's about to happen to them, so she can save their lives. Well, that's basically what happened, whether the intent or not.
I loved Mercy, and how she adapts to each life, learning about it, and things about humanity along the way. After all, she has a love named Luc, and she fell with Lucifer, but she's not a demon, as far as I could tell, because she was helping people, not hurting them.
I loved Ryan, too, because it's into someone close to him that Mercy first joins his life, and then in Exile, when she contacts him, then he basically comes running, and yeah, that was just epic. But then what happened in the cafe where she worked? That was not a pleasant thing for anyone to experience.
These books left me wanting more, more Mercy, more Ryan, more about what the eight are doing, who is Luc, and is he who I think he is? And yeah, there were some really fantastic characters in this series, even the bad guy that kidnaps Mercy in the first one (by fantastic, I don't mean quality of character, but realness and that kind of thing)
These were 2 great books, and I can't wait to read more in this series when they come out!!!
