A Bit of Personal News

So today, going into the garage, I forgot about the step, and went down wrong, and now my ankle is wrapped. I don't know exactly how it's hurt, and how bad it is, I just hope I don't have to go to the doctors. So this will either mean I have a lot more blogging and/or reading time, or the opposite. I don't know right now. But hoping for the best! Just wanted to share, because yeah, it's probably going to affect my blogging, one way or another!

Week 22 Review: Things We Know By Heart

From Goodreads:
When Quinn Sullivan meets the recipient of her boyfriend's donated heart, the two form an unexpected connection.

After Quinn loses her boyfriend, Trent, in an accident their junior year, she reaches out to the recipients of his donated organs in hopes of picking up the pieces of her now-unrecognizable life. She hears back from some of them, but the person who received Trent's heart has remained silent. The essence of a person, she has always believed, is in the heart. If she finds Trent's, then maybe she can have peace once and for all.

Risking everything in order to finally lay her memories to rest, Quinn goes outside the system to track down nineteen-year-old Colton Thomas—a guy whose life has been forever changed by this priceless gift. But what starts as an accidental run-in quickly develops into more, sparking an undeniable attraction. She doesn't want to give in to it—especially since he has no idea how they're connected—but their time together has made Quinn feel alive again. No matter how hard she's falling for Colton, each beat of his heart reminds her of all she's lost…and all that remains at stake.

My Review:
This was such a fantastic book! I've enjoyed two of her other books-I need to read her 3rd-so I was expecting to like this book. And I did so much! It was such a great, epic book! I enjoyed so, so, so much, such a wonderful story it told!

I knew that it would be a slightly sad book, seeing that her boyfriend died, and she went looking for the recipient of his heart. And with the title, well, yeah, there was that aspect there! It was just so wonderful and mournful, working for a peaceful, resolved ending. And it got it!

What I really enjoyed, was the things that were above each chapter, excerpts of books about heart transplants and all the subjects related there, relating to what was going to happen in the chapter, and so much other things relating to the heart! So great!

I did feel bad for the situation that she found herself in. She was only going to see him, she wasn't going to meet him. And then she did, and there was nothing she could do, and then there were those perfect days and they feel in love, and she still had to tell her secret...yeah, not fun!

But they got a happy ending, and I enjoyed reading about it it so much, between Colton's medical issues, and her father's!

Week 22 Review: This Heart of Mine

From Goodreads:
First love. Second chance?

As the daughter of a hoarder, Phoenix Fuller had a tough childhood. So when the handsome, popular Riley Stinson became her boyfriend in high school, she finally felt as though she had something to be proud of. Phoenix was desperate not to lose him—especially once she found out she was pregnant. Yes, she might have acted a bit obsessive when he broke up with her. But she did not run down the girl he started dating next!

Unfortunately, there was no way to prove her innocence. Now, after serving her time in prison, Phoenix has been released. All she wants to do is return to Whiskey Creek and get to know her son. But Jacob's father isn't exactly welcoming.

Riley doesn't trust Phoenix, doesn't want her in Jacob's life. He is, however, ready to find someone to love. And he wants a good mother for his son. He has no idea that he's about to find both—if they can forgive the mistakes in their past…

My Review:
This was such a great story! I think the death of Lori, and the idea of Phoenix doing it deliberately, well, has been in the series from the beginning! So it was really great to finally get the true story-and to have that story get out!

I loved that beginning, with Phoenix meeting Jacob for the first time since she gave birth to him in prison. That was just such a sweet beginning, and I think all of them dealt with it in their own ways, the best way that they could!

I can identify with Lizzie, Phoenix's mom. I might not hoard, but I collect books. And I keep a few, few, things that I think might be useful later. And I push people away because I know they won't like me, so I make sure that they don't.

Really, really enjoyed that ending, with the truth coming out, and having Phoenix vindicated. that was such a wonderful ending! That the people that blamed her most, knowing that they were wrong, and knowing what was right, yeah, such a great ending!

Favourite lines: "'Wow, be careful how you wield that thing.' 'Wield what think? My pool cue?' 'No, that smile of yours. I'm in love, so I'm immune. But I'm afraid this poor bastard has no defence.' 'Mind your own business,' Riley grumbled. 'What about this poor bastard? When Kyle pointed to his own chest, Phoenix could tell he was doing it to goad Riley. 'In case you haven't noticed, you're not even in the running,' Lincoln replied, and laughed again when Kyle flipped him off." Oh, they are such a great, close group of friends! Love reading about them, and their teasing!

I really enjoyed reading this book, it was another great instalment to this series!

Week 22 Review: Paperweight

From Goodreads:
Seventeen-year-old Stevie is trapped. In her life. In her body. And now in an eating-disorder treatment center on the dusty outskirts of the New Mexico desert.

Life in the center is regimented and intrusive, a nightmare come true. Nurses and therapists watch Stevie at mealtime, accompany her to the bathroom, and challenge her to eat the foods she's worked so hard to avoid.

Her dad has signed her up for sixty days of treatment. But what no one knows is that Stevie doesn't plan to stay that long. There are only twenty-seven days until the anniversary of her brother Josh's death—the death she caused. And if Stevie gets her way, there are only twenty-seven days until she too will end her life.

In this emotionally haunting and beautifully written young adult debut, Meg Haston delves into the devastating impact of trauma and loss, while posing the question: Why are some consumed by their illness while others embark on a path toward recovery?

My Review:
This was a pretty heart-wrenching book. A book about loss, and how some people cope with it, but also a book about eating disorders, after all, Stevie is sent to a facility to help people deal with food, and how to get better.

I knew that Stevie didn't actually kill her brother. But the story about how he died, that was something that I wanted to know. And it's something that Stevie told through writing it down, and reliving the memories.

The relationship with Eden was toxic. Stevie realized that too late, and that really sucks, because some of the damage had been done-her brother was dead after seeing Eden and Stevie kiss, even though he'd told Stevie that he might love Eden. But not all the damage-Stevie was still alive.

I really enjoyed her therapist, Anne, because she was a really great and caring character. She cared about Stevie, and when she learned that Stevie wanted to kill herself, she cried. I also really enjoyed Ashley, and her journey-Stevie was really close to her!

Such a great book about grief and pain, and eating disorders, of Stevie's journey from red, to hopefully yellow, and then seeing another start the journey! Such a great powerful healing book!

Week 22 Review: Ask Again Later

From Goodreads:
Despite what her name might suggest, Heart has zero interest in complicated romance. So when her brilliant plan to go to prom with a group of friends is disrupted by two surprise invites, Heart knows there's only one drama-free solution: flip a coin.

Heads: The jock. He might spend all night staring at his ex or throw up in the limo, but how bad can her brother's best friend really be?

Tails: The theater geek...with a secret. What could be better than a guy who shares all Heart's interests--even if he wants to share all his feelings?

Heart's simple coin flip has somehow given her the chance to live out both dates. But where her prom night ends up might be the most surprising thing of all...

My Review:
This was such a great book to read! And while the "somehow given her the chance to live out both dates" think, well, it does imply that Heart knows that she lives out both, but she doesn't. Which just makes mentions of her knowing something that happened on one, just all the more cute!

It was a bit confusing, the further into the story we got, for me, with the heads and tails, and keeping track of what had happened in what, sure, there were some common events, like her dress ripping, but when the chapters had more and more back and forth, well, that involved flipping back pages to find out what had happened before in this coin toss side!

There were some pretty high notes in both sides, and some low notes, like receiving an unwanted kiss from the Jock, and then having her brother act like nothing happened. But I really enjoying having her tell her brother off, I hope it happened, or was remembered, by the end!

Though it was a bit confusing, I loved how the book started together, split into heads and tails after the flip, and then at the end, came together, because while the events were different, they were similar, and ended in the same place! That was really great!

Really fantastic, sweet book! Kinda reminded me of Ditched, another prom story, and a another book I enjoyed as much as this one!

Week 22 Review: Ruthless

From Goodreads:
A spine-tingling debut about the ultimate game of cat-and-mouse in reverse as a teen struggles to retain hope—and her sanity—while on the run from a cunning and determined killer.

Ruth Carver has always competed like her life depends on it. Ambitious. Tough. Maybe even mean. It's no wonder people call her Ruthless.

When she wakes up with a concussion in the bed of a moving pickup trick, she realizes she has been entered into a contest she can't afford to lose.

At a remote, rotting cabin deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Ruth's blindfold comes off and she comes face-to-face with her captor. A man who believes his mission is to punish bad girls like Ruth. A man who has done this six times before.

The other girls were never heard from again, but Ruth won't go down easy. She escapes into the wilderness, but her hunter is close at her heels. That's when the real battle begins. That's when Ruth must decides just how far she'll go in order to survive.

Back home, they called her Ruthless. They had no idea just how right they were.

My Review:
Oh, this was such a fantastic book about survival! I loved reading it, it was really so great to read! Thrilling, and Ruth was just a fantastic character to read about, she was smart and resourceful, both things that helped her through this!

I really enjoyed the side bits, one of Ruth from 5 years ago, events along which she becomes who she is, while participating in a riding event. And the other, of the bad guy, of how he got to the point of kidnapping Ruth.

There ups and downs in this book, it's a heck of a roller coaster ride, this book! From the down of the beginning, to the up after the escape, the down after that, the up when she captures him, and then the down. And then the up again! Yeah! Lots going on, and so very great to read!

What really sucks in this book, were the Logans, the people that didn't want to help her, because that might bring the bad guy down on them. And that was incredible awful to read about, so I really hope that they aren't the majority of the population!

Such a great book, so enjoyable, and really such an excellent book!

Week 22 Review: Bone Gap

From Goodreads:
Everyone knows Bone Gap is full of gaps—gaps to trip you up, gaps to slide through so you can disappear forever. So when young, beautiful Roza went missing, the people of Bone Gap weren't surprised. After all, it wasn't the first time that someone had slipped away and left Finn and Sean O'Sullivan on their own. Just a few years before, their mother had high-tailed it to Oregon for a brand new guy, a brand new life. That’s just how things go, the people said. Who are you going to blame?

Finn knows that's not what happened with Roza. He knows she was kidnapped, ripped from the cornfields by a dangerous man whose face he cannot remember. But the searches turned up nothing, and no one believes him anymore. Not even Sean, who has more reason to find Roza than anyone, and every reason to blame Finn for letting her go.

As we follow the stories of Finn, Roza, and the people of Bone Gap—their melancholy pasts, their terrifying presents, their uncertain futures—acclaimed author Laura Ruby weaves a heartbreaking tale of love and loss, magic and mystery, regret and forgiveness—a story about how the face the world sees is never the sum of who we are.

My Review:
I enjoyed reading this book so much! Such a great story, and so strange, and there were just a lot of fantastic things going on! This was an unconventional love story, that the guy who partially saved the girl, before she saved herself, was in love with another, saved the girl for his brother. Now that's family!

It's really horrible that a guy would think that about a beautiful girl, that really, pretty much every guy that she'd met, had been like that. If she hand't had her grandmother, maybe she would've been like the stereotype, but she had her grandmother.

I really enjoyed Finn's condition, that we don't find out really about it until another character realizes it. And while I wish that we'd gotten Sean's reaction, well, Roza had a really great quote about it, "Everyone knew," or along those lines. The just didn't know what they knew, it's not exactly a common thing, I hadn't heard of it before this book!

I really love that this is a kinda retelling of the Hades and Phonephone myth, but more of, that happened, and now it's happening again sort of thing. And yeah, that was really fantastic to read about, and since there were things like Charlie Valentine and Finn's best friend, Miguel, well, I would really love a sequel or a companion book!

Such a really fantastic book! I really enjoyed reading it, and a sequel or a companion book would be really great! It seems like there was more of this world that could be explored!

Week 22 Review: We Were Liars

From Goodreads:
A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.

We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from National Book Award finalist and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart.
Read it.
And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.

My Review:
This book left me feeling a bit unsettled. And empty. And I'm not quite too sure what I feel about it, because of that, and because of the instruction that if anyone asked about the ending, to lie, when I want to put some of that in this review.

I don't know why I'm writing this review so soon after finishing reading it. I'm conflicted, and I think I should give it time to settle. But I need to get it out to settle, plus just to actually write the review. Yeah, conflicted!

This is the story about a girl, and her 3 closest friends, family, the Liars. And it takes place during two summers, the current year, and then the events of the summer 2 years ago. Because she can't remember most of what happened then. And this book is the mystery of her figuring it out.

I have to say, even if the ending gave me all these feelings, and even if some of the words in the synopsis are "destructive," "accident," and "secret," that the ending was kinda beautiful, in it's own way. Because it was stark, and honest, with everything revealed, with things making sense. Even if what the picture painted was what it was.

This is a book that really makes you think about things, like the casual wealth, choices, and yeah, it was a pretty meaningful book! And I might not know all of my feelings about this book, but I do know that I loved it!
