Week 14 Review: Invocation

From Goodreads:
From USA Today Bestselling Author, Aileen Erin, comes an all new action-packed, romance-filled, paranormal series.

There are three things I know without question. One, demons are real. Two humans make awful mistakes that get them in demonic trouble more often than you'd think. And three, I'm the only one who can help them.

I straddle the line between the mortal and spiritual realms every day. People might think they're two different places, but they're not. They lay on top of each other. It's messy, and that's why so many people need my help.

Since I was little, I've been called all kinds of names—unusual, abnormal, even insane. Which is fitting since they keep throwing me in to mental facilities. I've been in and out of them my entire life.

But no matter what people say, no matter what I'm risking, I will always help those in need.

Because there's an endless war carrying on all around us, every minute of every day. One that can't be seen by mortal eyes. But I can see it, the spiritual battle for mortal souls, and I'm working hard to make sure my father is on the losing side.

My father—Astaroth, Satan's general—is why I can do this. He's why I'm not normal. I hear him, whispering my name at night, his taunts echoing through the spiritual realm. He's hunting me, and I know the day will come when I must face him again.

Every portal I open could be the one that finally pulls me back to Hell, and I wonder if I will brave enough, strong enough, good enough to fight him.

My name is Samantha Catherine Lopez, and I am Nephilim. This is my story.

**Fans of the Alpha Girls series will love this new series set in the same world, with a few familiar faces. ;) BUT you DO NOT have to have read a single word of the Alpha Girls series to enjoy Samantha's story.

My Review:
I had such a great time reading this book! I really fell in love with her sci fi series, but then it turns out I had some of her Alpha Girl series through NetGalley-and then I got this one, so I had to read all of the books! But now I've made it to this one, and I had such a great time reading it!

We did meet Samantha in the Alpha Girl series, she and Tess are related. But it was so great to have her star in her own series with the abilities that she has, and the whole thing with her dad and the demons. I just had to know more!

The whole set up with the ghosts and the demons, and the people that she has surrounding her, I absolutely loved it! And then you add in Phoenix, who doesn't know anything about all this-yet. I loved their simmering connection, it didn't quite fully bloom yet, but given the events of this book, it's probably going to!

A lot happened in this book, was setting up for future events of the series, and the way things ended has me really anticipating what is to come. That we got to see some familiar faces, yeah, that was a bonus. I'm just so excited for more!

This was such a great read and I can't wait to continue on!

Week 12 Reviews: Shattered Pack, Being Alpha, Lunar Court, Alpha Erased

From Goodreads:
Meredith Molloney never thought she'd find a mate, let alone someone like Donovan Murry—one of the most powerful Alphas alive. Now that she’s no longer cursed and the evil Luciana Alvarez has been taken care of, she thinks life will finally settle down. Boy, has she never been so wrong.

In the middle of the night, Donovan gets a call telling him that his pack has gone to pieces. The news that his second in command has been found brutally murdered has Donovan packing his bags for Ireland, but the last thing Meredith wants to do is leave Texas. She's heard about how the Celtic Pack are with outsiders. And Donovan has more than a few exes in the pack that will be less than friendly.

Meredith’s never let a few angry wolves stop her, and she's not about to start now. She's faced down much worse the past few months. But when she gets there, she finds that it's not just a few exes who stand in the way between her and her Full Moon Ceremony with Donovan.

Meredith is thrust in to a deadly game of pack politics, one the fey have happily joined in on. When the dust settles, she knows she'll either have everything that she wants or lose it all.

For the first time since Tessa met Dastien, life is quiet. The evil witch, Luciana, is six glorious feet under, St. Ailbe’s is closed due to human trespassers, and people are finally getting used to the fact that supernaturals exist in the world. It seems like the perfect time for a honeymoon.

Tessa and Dastien's trip to the Caribbean is turning out to be the honeymoon that fantasies are made of—sunset cruises, long walks on the beach, and every romantic cliché you can imagine. She couldn't be happier. So, when a local man turns up inexplicably dead on the beach, Tessa brushes it off. Not every bad thing that happens in the world is a supernatural mystery to be solved. And when Sebastian—one of the Council of Seven Alphas who rule all the werewolves—appears on the island, she thinks it must be a coincidence. Everyone needs a break now and then. Even council members. Right? Besides, Tessa is beyond determined to not let anything get in the way of her romantic vacation.

But when Dastien goes missing, the honeymoon is most definitely over. Tessa can't ignore the signs anymore. Something huge is going on. And whoever messed with Tessa's mate is in for a rude awakening. Because if there's one thing fighting rogue witches and werewolves has taught her, it's how to be Alpha.

Chris is the guy Cosette always wanted. Fun. Funny. Lighthearted and sweet. He always manages to find beauty and laughter, even when fighting a chapel full of demons. He's exactly what she needs. Except he's a werewolf and she's a member of the Lunar Court-the only fey court that holds sway over the werewolves. Even on his best day, Chris isn't strong enough to last a few hours in the Lunar Court without becoming a slave. No matter how much Cosette's heart wants him, she knows she has to let him go.

But when Chris goes missing, Cosette realizes how much she has to lose if the worst happens.

Cosette is everything Chris wants, but he knows he'll never be enough to survive in her world. So, when Eli-a mysterious archon-requests his help, he figures why not? He needs every distraction he can get. But when he learns that Eli's quest could help him gain enough power to go against even the strongest of fey in the Lunar Court, he can't believe his luck. Except Eli never helps anyone without a price.

When it's all over, Chris will either earn the power to have the one he loves or die trying.

From Goodreads:
Tessa—part witch, part werewolf, raised human and now the unofficial leader of a newly minted supernatural alliance—thinks nothing of her brother, Axel, texting her and Dastien to meet him. The location pin was in a weird spot, but maybe he'd found a magical anomaly there. But when Tessa steps into the darkened warehouse, she doesn't expect to see her brother laying in a pool of his own blood, smell the sulfuric scent of black magic, or feel the pain of her mate being shot full of silver.

Tessa has seconds to make a choice, but there's only one thing she can do to save the two most important men in her life—sacrifice herself.

The last thing Dastien hears from Tessa was her plea—help Axel. But then their bond goes silent. He can't hear her. He can't feel her. And there's no sign of the attackers who took her.

Dastien does everything he can to save Axel before calling his friends in a panic. It takes all of them to find Tessa, but when Dastien's finally reunited with her, there's no sign of recognition in her eyes.

No magic in her touch.

No wolf beneath the surface.

Everything that made Tessa who she was…has been erased.

My Review:
Oh, I had a really fantastic time reading these books! We did get 2 more Tessa and Dastien books, which was great, to wrap up where we started, but we also got Meredith and Donovan, and Cosette and Chris's stories! They were all so great to read!

Because of Donovan's duties to the Seven, he hasn't had much time with his pack. And it shows, it's a mess when they get there. But oh, I didn't suspect who was behind the murders, that hurt. But Meredith and Donovan did grow closer through the experience. They might have improved the pack but they still have a while before it's truly healthy again, but they are on the path to healing. And then the next book had the building of the new power structure, which is also probably going to help!

I really enjoyed Cosette and Chris's story. We got the time to explore the fairy courts, which was pretty darned interesting. There was so much politicking going on, and I just wanted them to be together as much as they did, even despite the barriers they faced. Loved seeing their happy ending!

Alpha Erased really brought this series full circle, with her memories lost, of all that she's been through and grown and learned from. All I wanted was for her to remember, and oh, it was such a great story to read. I loved how it wrapped up! And it has me so excited for the spin off series!

I had a fantastic time reading these books, and I can't wait to read more by Aileen Erin!

"The sun burned hot on my back, spreading warmth through my body as I lay on the sand. Waves crashed into the beach and water licked at my toes. The tide was coming in, and even though Dastien and I should move, I couldn’t make myself get up. Maybe I would’ve moved if the ocean weren’t so warm, but the water was perfect, cooling me off just enough to temper the heat of the sun"-Being Alpha by Aileen Erin

Week 11 Review: Alpha Unleashed

From Goodreads:
Tessa McCaide has had it up to here with supernaturals. Luciana may have failed to steal Tessa's magic, but she's just getting started on her crusade for magical domination. If her demonic summoning isn't stopped, it could mean the end of everything.

Tessa's allies, including her mate Dastien, are ready to fight, but they're no match for Luciana's power. A little help (and ancient Inca mojo) from Tessa's cousin, Claudia, may give the side of good a chance if she can make it home in time, but stopping the war is no longer an option.

When witches and wolves fight, no one wins. Only time will tell who will still be standing after the last spell is cast.

My Review:
I loved reading this book, it was a such a great end to this story arc, I believe, given how the main threat was dealt with, and there's still 4 more books. And yeah, it was such fantastic to watch Tessa and her allies come together to deal with this threat! It took a lot of effort, and it wasn't easy, but they made it!

I know this isn't the end of the series, but it is the end of this story arc, with Luciana as the villain. Given that she's been the primary threat since book 2, and the threat that she posed, yeah, it was so fantastic to watch her being taken down! I feel bad for the person she was at the beginning, but by the end, she was evil, and she needed to be taken down.

Tessa has been through a lot in a very short amount of time, finding out about werewolves by becoming one herself, dealing with having a mate, and her changed abilities. She's been so strong, but no one should have to deal with all this, especially in such a short period of time. I'm glad that she's going to be getting a break.

That final battle, yeah, that was pretty intense! This world just keeps getting bigger and bigger, and I'm so excited to see where it goes from here! And seeing the other couples getting together, yeah, I'm so excited to see it!

This was such a great read and I can't wait to continue on with this series!

OK, so I got 41 posts in 7 days, and it was as pretty good week, I read some really excellent reads, and I can't wait for this coming week! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read A Grave Robbery!

Veronica and Stoker discover that not all fairy tales have happy endings, and some end in murder, in this latest historical mystery from New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award–nominated author Deanna Raybourn.

Lord Rosemorran has purchased a wax figure of a beautiful reclining woman and asks Stoker to incorporate a clockwork mechanism to give the Rosemorran Collection its own Sleeping Beauty in the style of Madame Tussaud’s. But when Stoker goes to cut the mannequin open to insert the mechanism, he makes a gruesome discovery: this is no wax figure. The mannequin is the beautifully preserved body of a young woman who was once very much alive. But who would do such a dreadful thing, and why?

Sleuthing out the answer to this question sets Veronica and Stoker on their wildest adventure yet. From the underground laboratories of scientists experimenting with electricity to resurrect the dead in the vein of Frankenstein to the traveling show where Stoker once toured as an attraction, the gaslit atmosphere of London in October is the perfect setting for this investigation into the unknown. Through it all, the intrepid pair is always one step behind the latest villain—a man who has killed once and will stop at nothing to recover the body of the woman he loved. Will they unmask him in time to save his next victim? Or will they become the latest figures to be immortalized in his collection of horrors?

Week 10 Reviews: Avoiding Alpha, Alpha Divided, Bruja

From Goodreads:
Seventeen-year-old Tessa McCaide has come a long way since her abrupt entrance into the world of werewolves, but she still has just as far to go before she's comfortable with turning full wolf. In the meantime, she's avoiding the topic of shifting to four legs any way she can. Thankfully her mate, Dastien Laurent, is quite the distraction.

When she finds her best friend, Meredith, getting sick in the bathroom, Tessa knows something's majorly wrong. Meredith was cursed years ago, and the dark magic kept her wolf dormant—only now the wolf is awake, and that same spell is killing her.

Tessa has no intention of sitting around while Meredith wastes away. Even if it means playing with magic she doesn't understand, she'll do anything to save Meredith's life. Including bargaining with the local coven of witches and its crazed leader, whose only goal is getting Tessa to join the witchy ranks.

Can Tessa save her friend without losing herself?

Life has been crazy since Tessa McCaide moved to Texas. She's gone from being a normal-ish girl with visions to a super-powered werewolf. She’s fought off vampires and broken a nearly unbreakable curse. And she's got a hot mate, Dastien Laurent, to keep her busy.

Things are looking up until the full moon ceremony rolls around. Before Tessa can strengthen her bond with Dastien, the local coven crashes the gates, demanding that Tessa—their heir apparent—be returned. If the pack wants to avoid a war with the witches, handing Tessa over is the only option.

Tessa doesn't want to cause an all-out fight, but joining a dark-magic coven isn't on her to-do list, especially if embracing her magic side means parting with Dastien. When the coven leader tries to control Tessa with dark-magic, Tessa realizes she has to dismantle the coven or prepare the pack for war. Either choice will change her life—and her world—forever.

From Goodreads:
Claudia de Santos has always looked out for every witch but herself. She fought from the shadows as her coven turned dark, and with a little help from her half-witch/half-Alpha werewolf cousin, Teresa McCaide, Claudia is doing everything she can to keeper friends and family in the light.

Now the coven has splintered into two factions: Luciana's army of witches wielding dark magic, and Claudia's few stragglers who fight with the wolves. War is coming, and it won't be much of a battle if Claudia can't find the spells to counteract Luciana's demonic power.

But Luciana strikes before they're prepared, and Claudia's twin brother pays the price. Suddenly, going to Peru in search of ancient Incan magic doesn't seem so crazy. Fighting evil will require a pure spirit, but her quest is full of temptations, including a handsome Peruvian guide with secrets of his own. Finding love is the last thing on Claudia's ever-growing to-do list, but sometimes what you need has a way of seeking you out.

My Review:
I had such a fantastic time continuing this series! I loved the first book, and it was great to dive deeper into the series, to spend more time with these characters, and the adventures that they had, because boy, is Lucinda up to some bad things that they need to stop!

In Avoiding Alpha, I honestly wanted to shake her. Her reasoning to go back to the coven, to deal with Lucinda, was flawed. Lucinda wanted to get rid of Tessa's wolf, which would harm her. She was letting her panic over Meredith's poor condition get the better of her. Though it did end up giving her the solution so it worked out in the end! Though I thought she could've punched Lucinda and get her blood to break the curse, that would've been satisfying!

Alpha Divided, I was so worried that something was going to go wrong. Of course it did, but it was great to spend that time with her cousins given the next book, and seeing Tessa learn a bit more about her magic, which she's going to need!

It was interesting being in Claudia's head, espcailly under these trying circumstances with her twin in dire condition. I loved her journey, and watching her find confidence in herself, after she'd been used for so long. Of course Lucas was a great addition to the series, as well! Loved their romance!

Loved reading these books and I can't wait to continue on with the series!
