Week 51 Review: The Arrival of Someday

From Goodreads:
In this emotionally candid contemporary YA, author Jen Malone delves into the world of a teen whose life is brought to an abrupt halt when she learns she's in dire need of an organ transplant.

Hard-charging and irrepressible, eighteen-year-old Amelia Linehan could see a roller derby opponent a mile away—and that's while crouched down, bent over skates, and zooming around a track at the speed of light.

What she couldn't see coming, however, was the flare-up of the rare liver disorder she was born with. But now it's the only thing she—and everyone around her—can think about.

With no guarantee of a viable organ transplant, everything Amelia's been sure of—like college plans or the possibility of one day falling in love—has become a huge question mark, threatening to drag her down into a sea of what-ifs she's desperate to avoid.

Then a friend from the past shows up. With Will, it's easy to forget about what's lurking between the lightness of their time together. She feels alive when all signs point elsewhere.

But with the odds decidedly not in her favor, Amelia knows this feeling can't last forever. After all, what can?

24 Books to Read in 2024 Update 9

So I read my next book for the 24 Books to Read in 2024 Challenge!

So I read The Arrival of Someday by Jen Malone and Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed from the Edelweiss list!

Yep. Happy reading!

Here's the link to this year's post with my journey.

But to recap, I wanted to do a version of These Books Will Self Destruct in 12 months without the self destruct. I wanted to read books that I've had for a while, that I really needed to get read, but maybe I forgot about them or that I had them. So I made 2 lists, one for each way I have them, as physical books, and as ARC's, half from NetGalley, and half from Edelweiss.

OK, so I got 55 posts in 7 days, and it was a pretty great week, I read a lot, and again got to post about it a lot, so I had a good time, and I can't wait for next week! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read The Adoration of Jenna Fox, City of Glass, Defending the Galaxy, Every Single Lie.

Year 2522. Oh. My. Stars.

Junior Officer Ara Lawrence here, reporting for duty. Again. It's situation critical for the security team and everyone in the base - including my parents - with a new attack from the looters imminent, a possible galaxy-wide crime conspiracy and an unstoppable alien threat. But this all pales in the face of my mind-blowing discovery about the Q-net. Of course, no one believes me. I'm not sure I believe me. It could just be a stress-induced delusion. That's what my parents seem to believe...

Their concern for me is hampering my ability to do my job. I know they love me, but with the Q-net in my corner, I'm the only one who can help the security team beat the shadowy aliens from the pits we discovered. We're holding them at bay, for now, but the entire Milky Way Galaxy is in danger of being overrun.

With battles on too many fronts, it's looking dire. But one thing I've learned is when people I love are in jeopardy, I'll never give up trying to save them. Not until my dying breath. Which could very well be today...
In this gripping YA novel about social media bullying and half-truths, one girl's discovery of a dead baby in her high school locker room rocks an entire community.

Nobody in Beckett's life seems to be telling the whole story. Her boyfriend Jake keeps hiding texts and might be cheating on her. Her father lied about losing his job before his shocking death. And everyone in school seems to be whispering about her and her family behind her back.

But none of that compares to the day Beckett finds the body of a newborn baby in a gym bag-Jake's gym bag -on the floor of her high school locker room. As word leaks out, rumors that Beckett's the mother take off like wildfire in a town all too ready to believe the worst of her. And as the police investigation unfolds, she discovers that everyone has a secret to hide and the truth could alter everything she thought she knew...

Week 49 Review: Changes in Latitude

From Goodreads:
Jen Malone, author of teen novels Wanderlost and Map to the Stars, will take readers to the high seas—literally—in this contemporary YA novel about a girl facing the dissolution of her parents' marriage, a new romance, and self-discovery while sailing down the Pacific coast.

After concluding that her is to blame for her parents' recent divorce, Cassandra McClure is hoping to stay as far away from her as possible. With a summer of freedom right around the corner, it shouldn't be too hard. But when a forty-foot sailboat appears in her driveway and her mom announces that Cassie and her brother Drew will be accompanying her on a four-month sailing trip down to Mexico, Cassie's plans for the summer go, quite literally, overboard.

Once the three set sail, tensions quickly rise. So meeting Jonah—a gorgeous, whip-smart deckhand—is an unexpected bright spot on an otherwise dim horizon. Though she tries to keep him at a distance—considering the upheaval of her home life—their chemistry is impossible to ignore, and Cassie soon finds herself questioning everything: Should she go for it with Jonah? Can she forgive her mom? Will home ever feel the same? With life's unpredictable tides working against her, Cassie must decide whether to swim against them, or dive right in.

My Review:
I enjoyed reading this story. I've been on cruises, but they were only a week long, or so. And this was to be 4 months long. And cruise ships are huge, and the boat that Cassie and her family is on is fairly tiny. So it was a new experience to read about!

This is mainly a story about a family dealing with the aftermath of a divorce, and the summer they spend together on a boat. And I enjoyed watching these characters have to deal with the issues that have been popping up. They had their fair share of blame, though!

Cassie was pretty headstrong, she was pretty stubborn, and having to go on this trip with her family was not in the plans she had made. And there is the start of a romance in this book, which was really great to have something positive while dealing with the family drama, though having that drama was cathartic.

I'm a little iffy on the ending of this book. It was a bit abrupt, but I loved how things were dealt with that were not left open ended. The main conflict was resolved, but there were a few questions that were left to be answered that I wish we had gotten.

This was a great book, and I had a good time reading it!

OK, so I got 30 posts in 7 days, which is a pretty good week! Can't wait for this upcoming one! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read The Almost King, Because I Love You, Double Play, The Gifted Dead, The Night is Alive, and The Problem With Forever.

Return to a world of airships and adventure in this sequel to Take Back the Skies, perfect for fans of Marissa Meyer and Sarah J. Maas.

In the second book in this sprawling saga, Aleks is the youngest of four brothers, each with his future predictably mapped out. But Aleks wants more than a life in his father’s shop. So when he hears his parents worrying about money, he decides to save them the cost of his keep by running away.

Aleks joins the army—but when that doesn't answer his problems, he breaks the law and deserts. Wanted and alone, he heads north, where he stumbles into love, adventure, and a skyship he might be able to call home . . . if he can evade the soldiers pursuing him.

Prepare for another sweeping adventure by nineteen-year-old Lucy Saxon in a series that seamlessly blends genre elements and a compelling contemporary voice.
Eight weeks after sixteen-year-old Andie Hamilton gives her virginity to her best friend, “the stick” says she’s pregnant.

Her friends treat her like she’s carrying the plague, her classmates torture and ridicule her, and the boy she thought loved her doesn’t even care. Afraid to experience the next seven months alone, she turns to her ex-boyfriend, Neil Donaghue, a dark-haired, blue-eyed player. With him, she finds comfort and the support she desperately needs to make the hardest decision of her life: whether or not to keep the baby.

Then a tragic accident leads Andie to discover Neil’s keeping a secret that could dramatically alter their lives, and she's forced to make a choice. But after hearing her son’s heartbeat for the first time, she doesn’t know how she’ll ever be able to let go.
Life is good for lodge owner and sometime hitwoman Nadia Stafford — a couple of dogs, a job she takes satisfaction in and the man she loves at her side as they literally build a home together. It’s as close to normal as a pair of contract killers can get.

Jack knows that sometimes being very, very good at what you do can be very, very bad — for those around him. He’s gone to great lengths to keep his past from catching up with Nadia. He also knows it’s only a matter of time …

Jack is halfway around the world when the trap is triggered. They’re coming for Nadia. And he has no way to warn her.
Politics and magic make dangerous bedfellows.

Deep within the Order, the seeds of corruption have taken root. While younger generations of the Gifted have embraced modern democratic values, a secret society of old-guard zealots seek a return to the past, when only European men of distinguished bloodlines held power.

Now, three venerable European families and a maverick American each plot to seize control of the Order and shape it to their will. A cutthroat game of political intrigue will decide the winner; and the stakes couldn't be higher, for ruling the Order carries with it the power to grant—or deny—an afterlife.

What begins as a battle of wills could turn into an all-out war. And magic could prove deadlier than any missile.
Midnight in Savannah

It's a city of beauty, history & haunting's. And one of the most haunted places in Savannah is a tavern called The Dragonslayer, built in the 1750s. The current owner, Gus Anderson, is a descendant of the original innkeeper and his pirate brother, Blue.

Gus summons his granddaughter, Abigail, home from Virginia, where she's studying at the FBI Academy. When she arrives, she's devastated to find him dead. Murdered. But Abby soon learns that Gus isn't the only one to meet a brutal and untimely end; there've been at least two other victims. Then Captain Blue Anderson starts making ghostly appearances, and the FBI's paranormal investigation unit, The Krewe of Hunters, sends in Agent Malachi Gordon.

Abby and Malachi have a similar ability to connect with the dead and a similar stubbornness. Sparks immediately begin to fly: sparks of attraction and discord. But as the death toll rises, they have to trust each other or they, too, might find themselves among the dead haunting old Savannah!
For some people, silence is a weapon. For Mallory “Mouse” Dodge, it’s a shield. Growing up, she learned that the best way to survive was to say nothing. And even though it’s been four years since her nightmare ended, she’s beginning to worry that the fear that holds her back will last a lifetime.

Now, after years of homeschooling with loving adoptive parents, Mallory must face a new milestone—spending her senior year at public high school. But of all the terrifying and exhilarating scenarios she’s imagined, there’s one she never dreamed of—that she’d run into Rider Stark, the friend and protector she hasn’t seen since childhood, on her very first day.

It doesn’t take long for Mallory to realize that the connection she shared with Rider never really faded. Yet the deeper their bond grows, the more it becomes apparent that she’s not the only one grappling with the lingering scars from the past. And as she watches Rider’s life spiral out of control, Mallory faces a choice between staying silent and speaking out—for the people she loves, the life she wants, and the truths that need to be heard.

Week 23 Review: Wanderlost

From Goodreads:
Not all those who wander are lost, but Aubree Sadler most definitely is on this novel's whirlwind trip through Europe. A romantic and charming YA debut perfect for fans of Stephanie Perkins and Jenny Han.

Aubree can't think of a better place to be than in perfectly boring Ohio, and she's ready for a relaxing summer. But when her older sister, Elizabeth, gets into real trouble, Aubree is talked into taking over Elizabeth's summer job, leading a group of senior citizens on a bus tour through Europe.

Aubree doesn't even make it to the first stop in Amsterdam before their perfect plan unravels, leaving her with no phone, no carefully prepared binder full of helpful facts, and an unexpected guest: the tour company owner's son, Sam. Considering she's pretending to be Elizabeth, she absolutely shouldn't fall for him, but she can't help it, especially with the most romantic European cities as the backdrop for their love story.

But her relationship with Sam is threatening to ruin her relationship with her sister, and she feels like she's letting both of them down. Aubree knows this trip may show her who she really is—she just hopes she likes where she ends up.

My Review:
This book was so fun to read! Starting with getting her hair caught in the pantry, having her sister getting arrested for leading the cop out but him saying she assaulted him, to Aubree impersonating her sister on this multi-country tour, yeah, so great!

There were a lot of funny moments. Like the antics that the customers got into, because yeah, they've lived longer lives, and this is their reward-acting pretty of of wack with the people around them! And ones that were harder. Like losing most of her stuff pretty much as soon as she arrived at the airport.

I really enjoyed all these places that they went to! They were interesting, and yeah, it was getting a dose of history and culture without leaving my home, which is preferred. Doing them in person is not something I like-I would rather read!

Of course the impersonation thing had to come out, and that caused a bit of a snag, especially since she was falling in love with the tour company owner's son, Sam, who also had his grandmother along. Yeah, that was really a situation!

Loved how it ended, how it all worked out, and that she would continue travelling, because yeah, she grew confident over this book, and that was a great journey! Loved reading it!
