Week 51 Review: The Unquiet Past

My Review:
Oh, I really enjoyed reading this story! It is short, and it was quick and easy listen! I do wish that there could've been just a little bit more story, the ending was pretty abrupt, but yeah, I had a great time with this story!

Tess was a really interesting character to read about, she's an orphan who doesn't know anything about her past, and she sees people who are dead-or is sees moments of the past. She's smart and strong willed, and I really enjoyed her character!

The investigation into the only clue that she has-a phone number that was assigned to an abandoned house, was really interesting! And there she meets Jackson, they had this fantastic dynamic, where it always seemed like he was making some outrageous demand, and she was being calm and reasonable about the whole thing. Of course it wasn't always like that, but I really enjoyed their interactions! 

I did feel that the ending was a little bit rushed. We'd barely met the guy, and then suddenly he's the bad guy, and then the book was basically over. I do wish we could've gotten a few more details about what happened with his experiments, as well as where we're leaving these characters, because I do want to know more about what their lives are going to be like now. 

This was a fantastic read, and I'm really glad that it exists!

My Review:
Yeah, wow, this was such a fantastic book! I love Kelley Armstrong's books so much, and the idea of a modern day cop being stuck in the body of a 19th century maid was so intriguing, especially since the maid is in in the household of siblings who basically the future of forensic science, and that was pretty awesome!

I felt badly for Mallory, her grandmother is dying, and then she is strangled, and ends up in someone else's body-in the past. It's a pretty jarring situation, but she takes stock right away, and beginnings her attempts at blending in. But there are a few problems.

Like that she makes a few assumptions about the world she's in, of the people around her, and of who the person whose body she's occupying is. I loved how that all played out, espcailly as she was using her knowledge of forensics and policing to help catch a killer. It all came together really well! And I loved how these characters weren't who Mallory expected them to be, that was really great! 

There was one minor but pivotal question that both me as a reader and Mallory experiencing it-what was going on in the present with her body? Was Catriona walking about in Mallory's body? Equal as important, was how was Mallory going to get back! Oh, and finally, was  this book going to end with her having that knowledge, able to get back to her own time? Loved the answer that we got! 

This was a fantastic story, and I can't wait for the sequel!

Week 50 Review: Snowstorms & Sleigh Bells

My Review:
I had a really great time reading this novella! I love this series, and this latest Christmas story was a lot of fun to read, I loved spending this time with Rosalind and her family, with a modern day Christmas! It was cozy and a little scary, and a Christmas to remember! 

Rosalind doesn't want to call her experience of being stuck in the 21st century trauma, but she did go through an experience that took her away from her family, leaving them to fear the worse. Just because she's now back with them doesn't mean that she's okay, because she hasn't dealt with it. Well, she deals with it now because her son crosses through the stitch. I loved the ensuing adventure and how she does start to face her demons! 

Watching her introduce her husband and her son to a her Jewish heritage, modern day Christmas, and to cars-was so heartwarming to read! Kelley Armstrong's heroines are always smart and logical and usually not the type to panic in a unsettling situation, and Rosalind proves that again in this story!

I loved how this boo introduces the next full length book that stars Rosalind's sister, and I'm really excited to read her story, because the synopsis (and the first chapter excerpt at the back of this book) tell us that she goes back in time, not forward, and that's going to be so much fun to read! 

This was a really great read, and I can't wait to continue the series!

My Review:
I had such a great time reading this book! I loved the first one, and I couldn't wait to continue Kit's adventures, and this book starts off strong, with a prologue that has the Emperor escaping, and Kit and her crew are fast on his tail, and that was fantastic to read!

I loved Kit and Rian's relationship in this book! This is the second time that they've been thrown together, and the sparts from the first book are still there. And he definitely changes the dynamics with a certain question, and I loved watching the ensuing drama unfold! 

Watching these two deal with their latest case was a lot of fun to read! This is in alternative history, so Gerard is a stand in for Napoleon. I've read one or two books that have dealt with this time period, and watching them try to recapture this guy that cased a lot of war was the top priority! 

That ending was just evil! I love and hate cliffhangers, because the waiting for the next book can be awful, but the fact that it's raised such emotions in me means that it was a good book. I can't wait tos ee how things are resolved in the next book! 

Loved reading this book, and I need to the 3rd book now!

My Review:
This book was so excellent  and so easy to read, and of course very dark! I've never read the original because I'm not one for classics, but it's spawned some pretty amazing retellings, and this one just joined the group for me! I loved reading it!

I loved the different parts of this book, of going to Victor's college town, to being back home, to the part where the truth is revealed, and action is taken! It was such a wild ride, but it made sense with each and every step!

I felt so badly for Elizbeth. She was in a horrible position, to be attached to this family, but not a part of it, with no money, no prospects, and dependent on being needed in Victor's life to continue as she is. But oh, if she only knew!

Things just keep getting worse and worse for her, she keeps having to cover for Victor-and he's doing some pretty awful things. But when she found out of all that he'd done, I loved how she took action, and how that ending went was just thrilling to read and it worked out very well, given the circumstances! 

This was a fantastic read, and I love that it exists!

My Review:
I loved reading these books! I'm enjoy watching Phil and her gang investigate these mysteries, that always contain a murder! But more than that goes on in these books, there's blackmail and there's political machinations, and it all comes together in really great stories! 

I forgot most of the synopsis going into A Resolution at Midnight. But I am glad that I read it when I did, because Christmas and the New Year are coming up, which is right around the time when this book is set (though over 100 years in the past!)

A Resolution at Midnight was really entertaining to read, what with the whole conspiracy and all. Just how far it goes, well, that made things all the more important, and the more care that they had to take. I couldn't wait to see them take down the bad guys! 

Oh, a Secret Never told was such an entertaining mystery. There's Dr. Erik Voegler, who might have a threat against his life. And there's Georgie, who was threatening them before she ended up being killed. But the fact that she might not be the intended victim was a delicious complication! I loved watching it play out! 

These were really great reads, and I can't wait to continue the series!

Week 46 Review: The Bones of Ruin

My Review:
This was a fantastic story! That prologue really set up the intrigue, and I just needed to know what the heck was going on! And then we met Iris, and her story was captivating, I wanted to know her past and her secrets, same as she did! I just loved this story!

I enjoyed getting to know these characters and this world, though there were some points where I was just infuriated. Like that auction scene. And overall the way people of colour were treated in this book was about as horrible as you can expect. That was just so awful, and that they had to go through that was just terrible! 

Throughout, Iris wants answers, of her past, and the memories that she's lost. And Adam knows, but has decided that going through this tournament is the best way for her to gradually get them back. But that was annoying, the way he dealt with that whole situation. But those answers? Wow were they fantastic! 

I loved the gang of characters that we meet, from Iris who only has a few years of memory, her partner Jinn, who has a few secrets of his own. Max, who can't seem to take anything seriously. Plus the romance, though I was a bit nervous about that, some poor decisions were made, and there were some reveals that I can't wait to see where it goes from there!

The way things ended, I'm really excited to see where the sequel goes from here! The building blocks were placed in this book, and I can't wait to see what is going to be made of them, and if things are going to go the way that Adam was thinking they're going to! 

This was such a fantastic read, and I can't wait to see where the series goes from here!

My Review:
I finally continued on with this series! I've been meaning to do so for years now, and I'm so glad that I did, this world is just incredible, and these were some really great stories! And oh, the mystery in Brotherhood of the Blade was just so interesting! 

Brotherhood of the Blade was so fantastic to read for two reasons. One, it brought back Jamie, and we can never have enough Jamie. Two, it got to explore the mystery of John and Hal's father. This is something that's been hanging over their heads since it happened, and I loved watching it play out! 

Lord John and the Haunted Soldier as a really great, quick read. The investigation into this cannon was personal, he was one of the ones injured when it exploded. The fact that he had to pursue it to make clear that they weren't at fault was an awful situation, but Grey's a good investigator.

The fact that The Custom of the Army takes place in Canada, that was fantastic, seeing my own country! Though it was a turbulent time, since France was battling it out with England, and John is dealing with an attempted deserter.Such an entertaining read! 

Loved reading these stories, and I can't wait to continue, and finish, this series!

Week 41 Review: Not Even For a Duke

My Review:
Oh, this book! I wasn't sure if Aurora was going to get a story, given how her first marriage went. But we did, and I loved her and Garrett together, she definitely deserved happiness, and I'm so glad that she got it! I really enjoyed her and Garrett's story! 

I don't know if this is the end of the series or not. I mean, all 4 Wallflowers have had books, and I doubt that they'd get another story. There's maybe another couple, of honorary Wallflowers, who could get a story, but I'm not sure...

I've really fallen in love with these characters. Aurora has been great from the beginning, the one who opened up her home to the other Wallflowers. But she was married, to an abusive man. Which had her avoiding members of the opposite gender.

And the there's Garrett. If I remember correctly, he was only in the previous book, but it was pretty clear that he had feelings for Aurora. I was rooting for them, because she deserved a good and happy marriage like her friends. And I loved watching her get it! 

I had a really great time reading this book, and I can't wait to see what A.S. Fenichel writes next!

Week 40 Review A Twist of Fate

My Review:
Oh, I was so very looking forward to this book! I loved the first book, and we were introduced to Rosalind and August's story, and knowing that they would star in this book had me excited to see how they would find their happy ending, because of course they were going to! This book had me on the edge of my seat, and I stayed up way too late to read it, and finish it, because I had to keep going! 

Rosalind is smart and she's resourceful and she's practical. But she's also thrown in a situation where she's unwillingly left her family, and they either think she's dead or she left them on purpose. So not fun to come back to. And she doesn't come back as herself, which complicates matters!

Ending up as the governess of her own son was a series of events that gives weight to this title, that put her in an interesting and difficult position, because she is deceiving them, even if she didn't have time to think of a better way to approach them, and this kinda got forced on her. The whole situation was complicated!   

Then there's the mystery of what's been going on with the various women of the family, which supposedly includes Rosalind, and these governesses. That was a very intriguing mystery! And of course like a Kelley Armstrong book, there were so many twists and turns, logical, but so fantastic! 

This was another great book in the series, and I can't wait for the next!
