Week 47 Review: Pure Magic

From Goodreads:
Sara Beth
At nineteen, I replaced my mother as the high priestess of the Windsor coven. Dutybound to protect my coven and the king, and for almost ten years, I have worked to transform the coven from the rigid system of Mother's rule to a warmer community of witches. News of men being admitted to the Windsor coven has spread, requiring me to consider more of their petitions. Legend says that male witches destroy and kill, often turning to dark magic. This was the reason for the ban. Will my removal of the old prejudice bring us all to ruin?

Adam
For over eight years, I've been running from my home in the Scottish Highlands, always staying a step ahead of my siblings. Each new town where I work my illusions and make a name for myself as a showman gives them the chance to catch up with me. I hope the Windsor coven will accept a man living in the light of magic. All I want is family within a coven.

I am not received with enthusiasm, as the high priestess is as wary as she is beautiful. If not for the ancient great mother's intervention, Sara Beth would have sent me away immediately. Instead, I'll be tested for light and dark magic. It's unpleasant, but I'd do almost anything to stay by Sara Beth's side, and finally find a home.

All is going well until Ariana and Kaden arrive. My sister Ariana is pure evil, and Kaden, my twin, follows in her darkness. Ariana's plans will destroy more than just our world if we don't stop her. To obtain her evil goals, she needs me. More than my coven acceptance and my attraction to Sara Beth are at stake when I join the Witches of Windsor.

My Review:
I loved reading this book! I love her writing and this series, and I had such a great time with this couple as they dealt with their situation, as they fell in love. This world of magic, in this period of time, is so wonderful to read about!

Sara Beth has had a lot of responsibility on her shoulders since she was young, and while she has help, ultimately, decisions rest in her hands. Including on letting in male witches, when her mom never would have. That she could be wrong and her mother right, and she shouldn't let them in, that's hard for her to deal with.

I adored their romance! He's missed coven life, and that's basically all she has. They were another couple whose story I really enjoyed, and I'm glad that they found happiness with one another, after what they've dealt with, they deserve it!

Adam's family are evil, and they're why he's been running. But they really don't help his case when the Windsor coven is still leery of male witches. I loved watching as they dealt with his family, because they had to be dealt with, no matter how hard it was.

Loved reading this book and I can't wait to read more by A.S. Fenichel!

Update 5

OK, so I got 36 posts in 7 days. There were some ups and downs this past week. An up was half the first half of the week off while also having the doggies. A down was that on the day I was to get them, Dobby was not doing very well, he didn't have all of his breakfast, and didn't have a lot of energy. Since he just had his 15th birthday, it was concerning, and I didn't get him that night, one of the few that he's ever spent alone since we got him. But he was fine on Saturday, and it turns out on Thursday that he'd been taken on 2 walks, so that must have really tuckered him out, so I'm glad he's doing better, but he had me worried there. What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read whatever I want to read!

Week 11 Review Magic Word

From Goodreads:
MINERVA
While I prefer simple magics, and hide my more deadly skills, I can defend myself. My gift, shield magic, makes me impervious to dark magic, so my coven sent me to determine what evil lurks inside the Kent coven in the town of Maidstone. I'm to stay with a trusted nonmagical apothecary who has petitioned for entry to the Witches of Windsor. Jonah Allen lives outside of Maidstone. I'll be safe at his home. I expect to find a bookish man bent over his concoctions, but instead, I find a hulking bear of a man who stimulates more than my intellect…

JONAH
Though born to a powerful witch, I have no practical magic. Forced from my birth coven, I use my knowledge of medicines in nature as an apothecary, but living among ordinary people is a foreign, lonely existence. I've heard the Windsor coven is more open-minded about membership, and I have nothing to lose by requesting admission.

Windsor sends a powerful witch to stay with me while she investigates the local coven. One look at Minerva Honeywell shatters everything I thought I knew about witches. She's kind and thoughtful, and I'm under her spell from the start. My future in her coven—and in her life—depend on us finding the source of dark magic and keeping it far from Windsor and the king.

My Review:
Yeah, this was a fantastic sequel! I loved being back in this world with the coven from Windsor, and with this new couple! They were both such great characters to read about, and I really enjoyed their story and their romance!

I really enjoyed how indivual these stories are, Jonah has grown up surrounded by magic, but doesn't have any himself, but when the chance comes to join a better, more accepting coven, he jumps at the chance. He was just a wonderful, giant hug of a man and I loved reading his story!

And Minerva, with her shield magic, and her smarts in keeping some of her skills hidden as protection, was just as good. I really enjoyed their dynamics, in how he wasn't who she was expecting, and she's working on investigating this coven.

Watching her investigation progress, watching them fall in love, this book had a lot of great elements that came together really well for this book. And oh, that final battle was so entertaining to read, I just flew through the pages!

I had a wonderful time reading this book and I can't wait to continue on!

Random:

OK, so I got 40 posts in 7 days, and it was a pretty decent week, I read some really great books, and it was pretty great! And oh, this coming week has some really fantastic books coming out! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read Both Feet in the Grave, The Quarantine Princess Diaries, and The Queen's Price!

If you thought you learned more about the dangerous and sexy alpha vampire, Bones, in The Other Half of the Grave, you haven't seen anything yet...

Cat disappeared from Bones’ life to protect him, but this Master vampire will keep his promise to find her.

Two hundred years of bounty hunting made Bones the best at what he does, yet it's still taken him four long years to find Cat, the half vampire now known as the "Red Reaper." There's a price on Cat's head, and not even her job as a secret government agent can save her. Only Bones can. But has time hardened Bones too much to love again? Or will his passion for Cat burn through every obstacle—alive, undead, or otherwise—between them?
Mia Thermopolis knows just what to do in a crisis: Rule.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, a section of the diary of Princess Mia Thermopolis of Genovia fell into the hands of Meg Cabot, the Princess’s royal biographer.

As reported in media outlets such as Entertainment Weekly, The Mary Sue, Refinery 29, Bustle, and more, from March until June of 2020, sixteen entries of the princess’s diary were leaked onto Ms. Cabot’s blog, to the delight of over a million fans.

In these entries, titled The Coronavirus Princess Diaries, the princess recorded her most heartfelt emotions while dealing with her husband’s quarantine after exposure to the virus; her personal (and political) battles while imposing health restrictions on her small European nation; life during lockdown (even in as idyllic a location as a palace on the Riviera); and of course, dealing with her demanding royal family, especially her grandmother.

Since then, readers have been clamoring for more chapters of Mia’s coronavirus diary . . . and here they are at last: The Quarantine Princess Diaries include not only the previously released entries (now edited and updated with new content), but two hundred more pages of entirely original, never-before-seen entries, including the princess’s worries over a possible royal affair; a showdown between Mia and Grandmère over the latter’s intended nuptials; the eventual development and distribution of a groundbreaking intranasal vaccine for every citizen in Genovia; and, as always, a royally happy ending.

After all we’ve been through, what could be more comforting for any lover of royal romance than snuggling up with a brand new installment of the diary of Mia Thermopolis, the princess who started it all!
Enter the dark and sensual realms of the Black Jewels, a world where power always has a price, in this sweeping story in the New York Times bestselling fantasy saga. They are Warlord Princes, men born to serve and protect. They are the Queen's Weapons, men born to destroy the Queen's enemies--no matter what face that enemy wears. Daemonar Yaslana knows how to be bossy yet supportive--traits he shares with his father, the Demon Prince, and his uncle, the High Lord of Hell. Within his generation of the family, he assumes the role of protector, supporting his sister Titian's artistic efforts and curbing his cousin Jaenelle Saetien's more adventurous ideas. But when a young Eyrien Queen, someone Titian thought was a friend, inflicts an emotional wound, Daemonar's counterattack brings him under the tutelage of Witch, the Queen whose continued existence is known only to a select few. As Daemonar is confronted by troubling changes within and around the family, he sees warnings that a taint in the Blood might be reappearing. Daemonar, along with his father and uncle, must uncover the source of a familiar evil--and Daemon Sadi, the High Lord of Hell, may be forced into making a terrible choice...

Week 9 Review: Magic Touch

From Goodreads:
ESME

I never dreamed my small curatives shop in Windsor, England would attract the attention of war hero Sir William Meriwether. My feminine heart is aflutter when he enters. But I'm a witch and a healer, and he's a man in pain, so I heal him. Desperate to do him a good service, I stretch my powers to the limit—or perhaps beyond. Somehow, in curing his ailing leg, I unleash powers inside William. At a loss to stop what's begun, I'm forced to seek assistance from the coven I've sworn never to join. I dread the encounter, but for William's sake, I put my family's hatred aside. Getting to spend more time with William is an added enticement.

WILLIAM

I'm mesmerized by Esme O'Dwyer from the moment I lay eyes on her. Despite our different stations in society, I want something more personal than any restorative tea she might offer. As a gentleman, I contain those baser needs, and accept her assistance to ease the pain in my leg. When the alluring witch's touch bestows me with magic of my own, I want no part of it. But the coven's leaders insist magic never make mistakes, and for this to have happened, I must be needed. I've never been one to shy away from duty, and being secluded for training with Esme is magical in more ways than one.

ESME

Trouble is coming to Windsor. The signs are all there. The race is on to train William as a witch before his power is needed, but our growing attraction is as undeniable as the battle that lies ahead.

My Review:
I had such a great time reading this book! This is the 3rd series that I've read by A.S. Fenichel, and the first that has magic, and I was excited to see what it was like. And it was a really great story, I loved the world, and I loved these characters, and seeing them fall in love!

The synopsis really had me intrigued about the magic system, and getting to know these two as they fell in love. And this book delivered on both counts! The magic was interesting in how it worked, The fact that it seems like she gives him magic when she heals him is so cool, and these two were so cute to read about together!

That they both have complications keeping them from one other, of course they do, it's a book, it wouldn't have a lot of conflict in a romance if there wasn't. Loved watching them deal with things! They were just so fantastic together!

They come from different walks in life, that he's higher born then she is, and she's a witch with a coven that she doesn't associate with. Watching him deal with the magic, and the idea that he needed to have it, well, just was the threat that was coming? It was so great to read!

This was a really fantastic read, and I can't wait to continue!

"I never should have told my driver Samuel that I would walk the last five blocks, but the carriage was delayed by an overturned cart, and the afternoon is waning into evening. Foolish as it might be, I hope the healer will be able to give me some relief. The idea of waiting another day depresses me."-Magic Touch by A.S. Fenichel

When demons threaten London, Lady Belinda answers the call.

Lord Gabriel Thurston returns home from war to find his fiancée is not the sweet young girl he left behind. She's grown into a mysterious woman who guards her dark secrets well. When he sees her sneaking away from a ball, he's convinced it's for a lover's rendezvous. Following her to London's slums, Gabriel watches in horror as his fiancée ruthlessly slays a man.

Lady Belinda Clayton's only concern was her dress for the next ball, until demons nearly killed her and changed everything. A lady by day, and a demon hunter by night, she knows where her duty lies. Ending her betrothal is the best way to protect Gabriel from death by a demon's hand.

Gabriel soon realizes, like him, Belinda has been fighting for her country. He joins in the fight, determined to show her that their love can endure, stronger than ever.

Why the time hasn't come yet...

Update 21

Random:

OK, so I got 55 posts in 7 days, and it was a pretty fantastic week, lots of great books read, and I'm very happy about that! Can't wait for next week! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read Shadow in the Ember.

The Flesh and Fire series is set in the beloved Blood and Ash world.

Born shrouded in the veil of the Primals, a Maiden as the Fates promised, Seraphena Mierel's future has never been hers. Chosen before birth to uphold the desperate deal her ancestor struck to save his people, Sera must leave behind her life and offer herself to the Primal of Death as his Consort.

However, Sera's real destiny is the most closely guarded secret in all of Lasania—she's not the well protected Maiden but an assassin with one mission—one target. Make the Primal of Death fall in love, become his weakness, and then…end him. If she fails, she dooms her kingdom to a slow demise at the hands of the Rot.

Sera has always known what she is. Chosen. Consort. Assassin. Weapon. A specter never fully formed yet drenched in blood. A monster. Until him. Until the Primal of Death's unexpected words and deeds chase away the darkness gathering inside her. And his seductive touch ignites a passion she's never allowed herself to feel and cannot feel for him. But Sera has never had a choice. Either way, her life is forfeit—it always has been, as she has been forever touched by Life and Death.

Week 41 Review: Not Even For a Duke

From Goodreads:
Finishing school brought four young wallflowers together. The perils of London's marriage market inspired a pact to protect each other for a lifetime...

Survivor of a hellish marriage, Aurora Sherborne, Dowager Countess of Radcliff, is determined to never be taken in by love. With the other Wallflowers married and starting families, her West Lane residence is empty and lonely. What's missing is a child of her own, to raise and make her house a home. Intent on marrying only to have children, Aurora wants nothing to do with romantic attachments.

The newly minted Duke of Cowin, Garrett Winslow, has known Aurora all her life, and loved her nearly as long. Recently returned from his travels abroad, he's certain the infatuation was left in the past, but upon seeing the now-widowed Aurora, those feelings come rushing back.

Maddeningly, Aurora regards him as nothing more than her brother's best friend. Determined to make her his, Garrett will use every tender weapon to seduce her—and prove she's worthy of true love.

My Review:
Oh, this book! I wasn't sure if Aurora was going to get a story, given how her first marriage went. But we did, and I loved her and Garrett together, she definitely deserved happiness, and I'm so glad that she got it! I really enjoyed her and Garrett's story!

I don't know if this is the end of the series or not. I mean, all 4 Wallflowers have had books, and I doubt that they'd get another story. There's maybe another couple, of honorary Wallflowers, who could get a story, but I'm not sure...

I've really fallen in love with these characters. Aurora has been great from the beginning, the one who opened up her home to the other Wallflowers. But she was married, to an abusive man. Which had her avoiding members of the opposite gender.

And the there's Garrett. If I remember correctly, he was only in the previous book, but it was pretty clear that he had feelings for Aurora. I was rooting for them, because she deserved a good and happy marriage like her friends. And I loved watching her get it!

I had a really great time reading this book, and I can't wait to see what A.S. Fenichel writes next!
