Week 41 Review: Such Sharp Teeth

OK, so I got 43 posts in 7 days, and it was a pretty decent week, I read some really great reads and I'm pleased with that! Dobby hasn't gotten better though (it turns out he has e coli in his bladder, which is why he's been peeing blood, but the targeted meds didn't work. And he's an old man who is basically eating, sleeping, and peeing. So I don't know what's going to happen next.) What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read whatever I want!

Week 41 Review: The Veil

From Goodreads:
Sally has recently left an unfulfilling job to volunteer at a living history museum, where she is assigned to the Death House. Every day, she dons Victorian mourning garb and describes traditional funeral services to tourists. It sounds depressing as hell, but for Sally, it's less depressing than her tepid marriage to her childhood sweetheart.

This becomes all too clear when she accidentally travels through time and space to a liminal world where the ghosts of the living history museum haunt its grounds. There, she meets and falls hard for Victorian-era pretty boy Nathaniel. Their heady, romantic encounters douse Sally in the sad reality that her marriage is anything but and leave her tempted to join Nathaniel permanently in his realm.

Is Sally's marriage literally a fate worse than death, or is there another way altogether?

My Review:
This was such an enjoyable read! It was really short, which is going to make it harder to review, but I'll do my best! I loved watching Sally, deal with an unsatisfying marriage, and then she meets Nathaniel-but he's dead, and wants her to join him!

While she's married to the guy who was her childhood sweetheart, it's been a pretty depressing time if volunteering at a place called the death house is better. So this whole thing with ghosts, yeah, it's just what she needed to get her life out of the funk. 

The whole romance with Nathaniel was sweet and cute and a bit creepy because he's dead, but it's also pretty chaste, given he's from a different time, and since she's alive, she keeps leaving. It was great to see her have some happiness! 

The chose that Sally made in the end, I loved it! Her life hasn't been easy but I loved that she chose what she wanted, that wasn't about what a guy wanted, but her. I'm pretty certain that she's going to be much happier going forward! 

I loved reading this book, it was so great!

Week 26 Review: Cackle

From Goodreads:
All her life, Annie has played it nice and safe. After being unceremoniously dumped by her longtime boyfriend, Annie seeks a fresh start. She accepts a teaching position that moves her from Manhattan to a small village upstate. She's stunned by how perfect and picturesque the town is. The people are all friendly and warm. Her new apartment is dreamy too, minus the oddly persistent spider infestation.

Then Annie meets Sophie. Beautiful, charming, magnetic Sophie, who takes a special interest in Annie, who wants to be her friend. More importantly, she wants Annie to stop apologizing and start living for herself. That's how Sophie lives. Annie can't help but gravitate toward the self-possessed Sophie, wanting to spend more and more time with her, despite the fact that the rest of the townsfolk seem…a little afraid of her. And like, okay. There are some things. Sophie's appearance is uncanny and ageless, her mansion in the middle of the woods feels a little unearthly, and she does seem to wield a certain power…but she couldn't be…could she? 

My Review:
This was a really fun read! Annie was interesting to read about, of leaving a big city for a job in a small town, and that she meets Sophie, yeah, I really enjoyed watching the two of them interact. And I just wanted to know about that final question in the synopsis, what the answer was!

This book really is meant for the Halloween season, it was nice and spooky, and I had a really great time with it, even if the midst of the start of summer. The possibility of witches, well, it was intriguing, and I had to know if it was true or not. 

I really enjoyed Annie and Sophie's relationship, Sophie is confident, and that's exactly what Annie needs, and it was just really great to see a woman uplifting another.  They were a really great pair to read about! 

The whole pet spider thing, that was a bit creepy in thought. But Ralph was a really great companion! I loved learning about the magic of this world, while Annie was getting over her heartbreak. This book had a good mix of elements to make it a compete story! 

This was a really entertaining book, and I can't wait for more by Rachel Harrison!

OK, so I got 63 posts in 7 days, it was a pretty great week, I read a good number of books and I really enjoyed them! Plus Dobby is healing well from surgery, and I've had him the past couple of nights, because when he was by himself, he was waking up the parents up at 5 because he was lonely. But with me, he's getting up around 7 or 8. I love cuddling with him, but the cone of shame, not so much! And poor Jax, because now he's by himself. Can't wait for the 2nd when he gets his stitches out! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read the last few books left on my N.E.W.T.'s TBR!

Week 34 Review: The Return

My Review:
This book was a great, creepy book! It was more atmosphere, wondering if you're crazy for most of the book, but that ending really upped the creepy factor! I loved reading about this group of friends with a returned friend, who isn't who she used to be! It was a fantastic read!

Really, this book is great for people who are detail oriented. Like, there was a bunch of details about the rooms. And I don't really notice those sorts of things, so those details didn't stick in my brain. And when Elise was wondering if she was crazy, I wasn't sure, since I didn't remember those details. So it's not so great for those of us with poor memory!

I really enjoyed reading about these characters. They were all flawed, but Elise and Julie, who were so much alike, were pretty unlikeable. They were both just a little cruel, and I didn't really like them. It was really great to read about their friendships, dealing with the fact that Julie was gone for 2 years, thought dead, but now is backed. But is changed...

My one question is, what was up with the carpet change. I mean, we didn't really have what the bad guy was explained, but what we do know, that doesn't fit in. So I'm wondering what was going on there? I'm confused! Maybe Elise was going a little bit crazy, because of the creep factor from what the bad guy was?

This book was a great read, I really enjoyed it, and I can't wait to see what Rachel Harrison writes next!
