Will the Time Come #617, March 30th

Every Thursday I am going to list a book which I really want to read/keep meaning to get to. These are mostly books which have been on my shelf for awhile now but don't have to be, maybe you got it two weeks ago and really want to read it! Thanks to Jodie from Books for Company for this meme!

Since Witches came out of the broom-closet in the early 21st century, they have worked alongside humans as police officers, healers, stock traders, and more. But they aren’t the only paranormal entities in our world…

Police officer and Witch Donata Santori spends her days interrogating dead witnesses by summoning their spectral forms. Normally the job is little more than taking statements and filing reports. But when she’s called in on the case of a murdered art restorer, she finds herself suddenly in possession of a mystical portrait that both the human and paranormal communities would kill to get their hands on.

Unable to take on the forces hunting her alone, Donata seeks help from two unlikely and attractive allies: a reluctant shape-changer and a half-dragon art forger. But as the three of them hurry to uncover the truth about the powerful painting, Donata realizes that she’s caught in the middle of not one but two wars—one for possession of the painting’s secrets and one for possession of her heart…

Why the time hasn't come yet...
I don't know, it's the start of the series, and I haven't been reminded of it yet. But I want to read it! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Week 18 Review: Claws for Suspicion

From Goodreads:
When someone from her past comes to town to cause trouble, Kari Stuart and her sassy kitten Queenie will have to work hard to protect the Serenity Sanctuary in this new Catskills Pet Rescue Mystery.

Kari Stuart is finally starting to relax into her role as the new owner of the Serenity Sanctuary and is looking forward to the various fun autumn activities in the beautiful Catskills town of Lakeview, like the annual Oktoberfest celebration. It's time for friends and quality bonding with handsome vet Angus McCoy. Until the unexpected arrival of her unpleasant ex-husband, Charlie Smith.

He comes bearing a shocking revelation--the paperwork on their divorce never went through, and they are still married. Worse yet, he thinks this entitles him to half of her lottery winnings--although he'll happily take partial ownership of the sanctuary instead. Kari isn't sure if he's telling the truth, or if it's just another one of Charlie's lies.

But things go from bad to worse when an unexpected death makes Kari the main suspect in a murder investigation. Will she and Queenie be able to find the real killer and keep the home they've built at the sanctuary safe, or is their string of luck finally tapped out?

My Review:
This was such a fantastic read! I was really looking forward it it-because I couldn't wait to see Kari crush this case against her ex-husband! I didn't want her to go through that unpleasantness, but he was going to bring it, and she was going to get through it!

Her ex was pretty infuriating. And the idea that they didn't technically finish divorcing-that means he thinks he should get some of the money. And that idea is horrifying. And then the murder happens, and it keeps looking like Kari did it, so she had to prove that she didn't on top of everything else.

Oh, but this case did cause a bit of drama with Dr. McCoy, because between her ex husband being in the picture, and then McCoy's attempts to help the investigation. Well, it was fun to read, but not so much fun to experience, though it added a small but important clue to the mix!

Though poor Sheriff Richardson. It's not Kari's fault that she's gotten entangled with these investigations, but it's not his, either. He's such a fun character to read about, I love his sense of humour! And he's basically guaranteed to be a part of this series as long as he's alive, living in Lakeview, and continues to be sheriff, so that's fantastic!

This was another amazing mystery, and I can't wait to see where the series goes from here!

"Kari Stuart gazed around her kingdom and smiled with satisfaction. Okay, it wasn't really a kingdom, it was an animal shelter, and a small golden retriever puppy had just piddled in one corner of it, but still, it had come a long way from the rundown, nearly defunct rescue she had taken over a few months ago." -Claws for Suspicion by Deborah Blake

Aw, this sounds really great! But things are going to go badly shortly, which isn't good! Must read more now! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Update 33

OK, so I got 42 posts in 7 days, and it was a pretty good week, I read some really great books, and I'm looking forward for this coming week! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read Immoral Rising.

The Argeneaus are back! Filled with love, passion, and adventure, New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands returns with another sexy romance about everyone's favorite immortals.

Stephanie McGill was attacked and turned when she was just a teenager. Worse, her abilities are unlike any other immortal. Now 13 years later, with the help of her adopted Argeneau family, Steph has carved out a new – if not lonely – life for herself. Until a new neighbor arrives…

Thorne is also one-of-a-kind. The result of a genetic experiment, he’s not an immortal, but he's not mortal either. He's looking for a place to hide, to get some peace and quiet so he can figure things out, and Stephanie's sanctuary is perfect. In fact, Stephanie is perfect. For the first time, Thorne is free to be himself and he's falling for her.

But if they're going to have a future together, they'll first need to deal with their past…because the mad scientist who created Thorne is now after Stephanie.

Week 16 Review: Doggone Deadly

From Goodreads:
Kari Stuart is roped into helping out at a dog show--but soon finds she's bitten off more than she can chew when her best friend is framed for murder in this new Catskills Pet Rescue Mystery.

When the woman who is supposed to run the local dog show calls out sick, dog groomer Suz is asked to take over. But it's too much for her to handle by herself--especially with the president of the kennel club, Olivia Weiner, criticizing her at every turn--so she calls in her best friend, Kari Stuart, with the promise that Kari can set up a fund-raising and kitten-adoption station at the show.

A long and stressful day goes from bad to worse when a local breeder's body is found in the supply tent, with Suz's signature purple-handled shears embedded in her chest. Kari doesn't think for a second that her friend is capable of murder; the police aren't so sure. But trying to run a dog show and investigate a murder at the same time is like herding cats, and Kari will have to rely on the rest of the Serenity Sanctuary staff to keep things running smoothly while she--and her beloved and clever kitten, Queenie--sniff out the truth.

My Review:
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I love dogs, and having a murder at a dog show, well, it meant spending a lot of time with dogs, since it was the humans getting murdered! And while Kari isn't a suspect this time, her best friend, Suz is, so of course Kari has to investigate!

There were a number of suspects set up, and I had no clue as to who the killer could've been. And there were a lot of motives, because the victim had secrets in her past that were coming to light-and put her in a bad one. Though her present wasn't much better, it was pretty bad what she was doing!

There were a lot of small details that made up this book. Like why Suz's things were used in the process of these murders, implicating her-and how were they gotten. And of course casual conversation brought up important details that helped solve this mystery!

I'm so excited for the sequel-there was a line in this book about ex-husbands popping out of nowhere, and I know Claws for Suspicion has Kari's ex coming around and causing trouble, so I'm really excited to read that! It's going to be so great for us and horrible for Kari!

This was another fantastic read and a great mystery, and I can't wait to read the sequel!

"'Quick, hide me!' Suz said as she ran into the large white tent. Kari Stuart looked up from where she was positioning a free-standing wall featuring pictures of animas currently up for adoption at the Serenity Sanctuary, almost dropping the display on her foot. Kari wasn't sure what amazed her more-that her best friend, who was six feet tall with spiky lavender hair, thought she could actually hid behind five-foot-six brown-haired Kari, or that there was something Suz wouldn't feel the need to hid from at all. They'd been friends since grade school, and as far as Kari knew, Suz wasn't afraid of anything." -Doggone Deadly by Deborah Blake

Book of Night by Holly Black
Expected Publication: May 3rd, 2022
From Goodreads:
#1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black makes her stunning adult debut with Book of Night, a modern dark fantasy of shadowy thieves and secret societies in the vein of Ninth House and The Night Circus

In Charlie Hall’s world, shadows can be altered, for entertainment and cosmetic preferences—but also to increase power and influence. You can alter someone’s feelings—and memories—but manipulating shadows has a cost, with the potential to take hours or days from your life. Your shadow holds all the parts of you that you want to keep hidden—a second self, standing just to your left, walking behind you into lit rooms. And sometimes, it has a life of its own.

Charlie is a low-level con artist, working as a bartender while trying to distance herself from the powerful and dangerous underground world of shadow trading. She gets by doing odd jobs for her patrons and the naive new money in her town at the edge of the Berkshires. But when a terrible figure from her past returns, Charlie’s present life is thrown into chaos, and her future seems at best, unclear—and at worst, non-existent. Determined to survive, Charlie throws herself into a maelstrom of secrets and murder, setting her against a cast of doppelgangers, mercurial billionaires, shadow thieves, and her own sister—all desperate to control the magic of the shadows.

With sharp angles and prose, and a sinister bent, Holly Black is a master of shadow and story stitching. Remember while you read, light isn’t playing tricks in Book of Night, the people are.

Definitely not invited is Mr. Wickham, whose latest financial scheme has netted him an even broader array of enemies. As tempers flare and secrets are revealed, it’s clear that everyone would be happier if Mr. Wickham got his comeuppance. Yet they’re all shocked when Wickham turns up murdered—except, of course, for the killer hidden in their midst.

Nearly everyone at the house party is a suspect, so it falls to the party’s two youngest guests to solve the mystery: Juliet Tilney, the smart and resourceful daughter of Catherine and Henry, eager for adventure beyond Northanger Abbey; and Jonathan Darcy, the Darcys’ eldest son, whose adherence to propriety makes his father seem almost relaxed. In a tantalizing fusion of Austen and Christie, the unlikely pair must put aside their own poor first impressions and uncover the guilty party—before an innocent person is sentenced to hang.

Expected Publication: May 3rd, 2022
From Goodreads:
From the New York Times best-selling author of The Love Hypothesis comes a new steamy, STEMinist novella….

A scientist should never cohabitate with her annoyingly hot nemesis – it leads to combustion.

Mara, Sadie, and Hannah are friends first, scientists always. Though their fields of study might take them to different corners of the world, they can all agree on this universal truth: when it comes to love and science, opposites attract and rivals make you burn….

As an environmental engineer, Mara knows all about the delicate nature of ecosystems. They require balance. And leaving the thermostat alone. And not stealing someone else’s food. And other rules Liam, her detestable big-oil lawyer of a roommate, knows nothing about. Okay, sure, technically she’s the interloper. Liam was already entrenched in his aunt’s house like some glowering grumpy giant when Mara moved in, with his big muscles and kissable mouth just sitting there on the couch tempting respectable scientists to the dark side…but Helena was her mentor and Mara’s not about to move out and give up her inheritance without a fight.

The problem is, living with someone means getting to know them. And the more Mara finds out about Liam, the harder it is to loathe him…and the easier it is to love him.

I Kissed Shara Wheller by Casey McQuiston
Expected Publication: May 3rd, 2022
From Goodreads:
From the New York Times bestselling author of One Last Stop and Red, White & Royal Blue comes a debut YA romantic comedy about chasing down what you want, only to find what you need...

Chloe Green is so close to winning. After her moms moved her from SoCal to Alabama for high school, she’s spent the past four years dodging gossipy classmates and a puritanical administration at Willowgrove Christian Academy. The thing that’s kept her going: winning valedictorian. Her only rival: prom queen Shara Wheeler, the principal’s perfect progeny.

But a month before graduation, Shara kisses Chloe and vanishes.

On a furious hunt for answers, Chloe discovers she’s not the only one Shara kissed. There’s also Smith, Shara’s longtime quarterback sweetheart, and Rory, Shara’s bad boy neighbor with a crush. The three have nothing in common except Shara and the annoyingly cryptic notes she left behind, but together they must untangle Shara’s trail of clues and find her. It’ll be worth it, if Chloe can drag Shara back before graduation to beat her fair-and-square.

Thrown into an unlikely alliance, chasing a ghost through parties, break-ins, puzzles, and secrets revealed on monogrammed stationery, Chloe starts to suspect there might be more to this small town than she thought. And maybe—probably not, but maybe—more to Shara, too.

Fierce, funny, and frank, Casey McQuiston's I Kissed Shara Wheeler is about breaking the rules, getting messy, and finding love in unexpected places.
