Week 27 Review: The Nowhere Girls

Told in alternating perspectives, this groundbreaking novel is an indictment of rape culture and explores with bold honesty the deepest questions about teen girls and sexuality. 

My Review:
This was such a great read, and with such an important topic! I had such a great time reading about this group of girls as they take a stance against the awful things that happened to drive one girl away. It was such a fantastic read! 

This book deals with rape, sexual assault, victim blaming, racism, and sexism. It was really aggravating at points on behalf of these characters who were dealing with this, when they really shouldn't have. Plus the fact that it seems to go pretty similar to this in real life just makes it hard to stomach.

Taking the fact that this group of girls band together to put a stop to this situation, I loved it. They should've have had to, but nobody in a position of authority did anything, so it was up to them to do what they could to make the situation better.

We got to be in all three girls' perspectives, which I really enjoyed, they were wildly different people, and I enjoyed getting all of their takes. We also got some perspectives from "Us" various other girls in the school, that gave us a more complete picture of what was going on, and I really enjoyed that! 

I had a really good time reading this book, and I can't wait to read more by Amy Reed!

Week 21 Review: The Chaos of Standing Still

My Review:
I really enjoyed reading this book! At first glance, this is a fun book about being trapped overnight at a airport. But look closer, then you see that it's also the story about a girl who is still working through her grief over the loss of her best friend. 

It all starts when she accidently swaps phones with Xander, and it leads to a series of mini adventures, of getting to know him, and of dealing with her grief, and it was at times lighthearted, and times more serious, and it came together really well!

We did get to know Lottie, as well as Ryn and Xander as the book goes on. Lottie's death has had such a huge impact on Ryn, and we got to see what lead to Lottie dying, and balancing that with what was going on at the airport, it was a really great balance!

I enjoyed all these characters, Xander had his secrets, but was really great to meet. There was Siri, absolutely loved her and Jason. And oh, yeah, the child genius who was traveling on his own-and is very interested in this conspiracy theory about the Denver airport. They added so much to this book, and I had a great time reading about their adventures!

This was a really great read, and I had a great time reading it!

My Review:
Oh, I had a really fantastic time reading these books! I've enjoyed books by Linsay Cumming's before, but Sasha Alsberg is a new author for me, and they sounded really great (which is why I got book 2 before reading book 1, opps!) and having now read them, they were! 

Getting to know Andi and her crew was so great! They all have such personalities, and I had such a great time learning them! There's also some pretty important pasts, and some secrets, that are coming back to haunt them. 

The scope of this world was fantastic to read! With all these different planets, and with the ability that Queen Nor has, all the politics and maneuvering were on a pretty big scale! Some of the plans were pretty shocking, and I had such a great time watching them play out! 

Man, there were some pulse pounding moments in this series! Definitely the second one more then the first, because of course things are going to go wrong in the first book, but to have a good happy ending, it has to mostly go right in the end! Loved how it turned out! 

This was a fantastic series, and I can't wait to read more from either or both authors in the future!
