Genre(s): YA sci-fi, comic book, romance

Teasers:
Teaser 1
"I call it my Me notebook. It’s everything I’ve learned about myself since my memory restarted.”

“Sarcastic, volatile, not a morning person, emotional, impatient…” Ryan laughed and held out his hand to me. “Give me your pen.”

“Why? What are you going to write?”

“I could add a million things to this list, but for now I’d settle even one positive personality trait. You’re always so pessimistic.”

I snorted. “Pessimistic is not a positive trait.”

“Just give me your pen before I have to add stubborn.”

I smirked as I held out the pen. “That one’s already on there.”

“It’s worth repeating.”

Teaser 2
He shook his head, chuckling and relaxing as his confidence grew. “You defend yourself when you have to, but you won’t torture me. You’re a hero type. A do-gooder. You’re always so worried about hurting people with your powers.”

I thought about his words and then grabbed his hands. Startled, he tried to pull back and glared when he couldn’t escape my iron grip. “What do you think you’re doing?”

I gave him my own evil smirk. “Guess you don’t know me as well as you thought you did.”

His eyes narrowed on mine, then snapped wide open. He glanced at my hands on his again. “You won’t,” he hissed, but his voice wasn’t so confident anymore.

“You’re right that I’m a do-gooder type. But I’m not as angelic as you think. I’m really more concerned with not hurting innocent people. You…eh…” I shrugged. “As long as you live, I’m okay with a little pain since it will get me what I need.”

Teaser 3
I gasped, shocked, and my eyes fell to his arm and the round scar I’d seen their earlier. A bullet wound. I looked at Ryan, and he surprised me even more by grinning. “That’s right, I took a bullet for you, babe.”

“You…” My voice trailed off as I tried to get a grip on the sudden swell of emotions raging inside me. Guilt, gratitude, horror…take your pick. I felt them all.

Ryan squeezed my hand. “That’s a good reason to promote a guy to boyfriend status, don’t you think?”

He was joking about this? He was shot, and he wanted to joke about our relationship? Was he for real?

“Don’t fall for it, Angel,” Johnny G teased. “It was barely a flesh wound. It didn’t even hit anything vital. I’ve been shot twice myself. It’s really not that bad.”

Stefan: Promo

From Goodreads:
NOTE: Complete novel. No cliffhanger. Dual POV. Rated 18+ for language and strong sexual content. This is an adult paranormal romance with erotic content. The series centers on Billionaire Wolf Shifters with plus sized BBW for mates. It also includes vampires, voodoo priestess, a Marine, and magic. These are stand alone books that create a series. They do not need to be read in order.

El is a beautiful, successful, plus sized woman suffering a debilitating humiliation that has left her hating all handsome, wealthy men exactly like Stefan Le Beau. Unfortunately for Le Beau, she's known him since she was sixteen and was totally snubbed by him. To her, he’s a hound dog and a man-whore.

Stefan is a playboy to the extreme with one hard and fast rule: date a woman only once, take her to bed, and be gone before morning. Until El.

Stefan's dream of finding his mate comes true when he bids two hundred thousand dollars to win a date with El at Simon’s charity ball. Money well spent in his opinion.

Now, if she would only talk to him. Or look at him. Or touch him, or…like him.

Can Stefan convince El he's a reformed man?

Can El learn to trust a man who is the epitome of what she avoids and could shatter her heart?

It will require drastic, strategic measures from the entire family to make this mating happen.

The Warlord's Concubine: Promo

From Goodreads:
Mirella often wonders what her life would've been like had she been born a princess, rather than the property of one.

When a dark warlord from the north conquers her princess' kingdom, however, he has plans for the dainty young future-queen. It makes the question all the more poignant, because now, more is at stake than just her rough treatment, but love and lust as well.

As an indentured servant and handmaiden to the princess for much of her life, the middle-aged Mirella sees the conquest of the land as an opportunity to elevate herself. Though as she earns the trust of their conquerors, she finds her own nature challenged as well. A life of callous disregard has made her hard, but as she battles the princess' will for the first time and finds new allies and friends, does she have what it takes to win the love and favour of the brutal warlord? Will love and friendship be her downfall? Or will her station in life yet again be her undoing?

Caution: The Warlord's Concubine is a dark fantasy novel that contains explicit scenes, and a twisted romance between a handmaiden and a God.

EXCERPT

A great table filled the center of the tent, and upon it was heaped food. A mix of the rich pantry of the palace with the flavours of the harsh tundra, making for the oddest banquet Mirella had ever seen.

But at the heart of it stood a statue, carved from obsidian stone. It was unmistakable though the craftsmanship was not as refined as that of the courtly artists who decorated the millennia old palace. The presence of the mighty man, albeit nude and holding a great scimitar that was lodged into the spine of some defeated foe, inspired all the other women, even the guards, to fear. Mirella could tell they—unlike her—knew much greater terror of the God-King, even in his lifeless representation.

It was curious to her why the man of such taste would be so destructive, but it didn’t matter. She barely glanced to the other women. The evening prior she might have been a handmaiden, but now she was on equal footing with all of them, and it filled her with a strange sense of righteousness. Her eyes worked over the statue as she left the princess to recover on top of some pillows, her gaze one of wonderment and a lingering, heated desire.
His power radiated from the stone and she briefly wondered at what the more skilled artisans could do for him.

She couldn’t recall at how long she might’ve been staring at that statue when she was disturbed, her gaze lost on that harsh stone depiction, entranced by the generous proportions of his muscles and loins. It was, as far as she could tell, true to form, but lacking in the expert subtleties a court artisan would bring to it.
“Most don’t even dare to look at it,” came that otherworldly voice, so richly masculine, irradiating such strength and command in a manner she’d never heard before.

In the torchlight of the tent she could make him out all the clearer. His charcoal skin was smooth and flawless. His face so chiselled and handsome. Hair long and perfectly shiny. Her first guess only seemed all the more right; a god. Though the dark clothes he wore, looking a blend of velvet and leather, mixed with his piercing dark gaze and skin, it didn’t take much guessing to place as what kind of deity he might be.

Kurten Wandsworth is the only son of the Mayor of St.Marhen. Kurten lives his life fueled by cruelty and lust. Whatever he wants he takes and he wants Claren to be his wife even it if kills her. Scarred by Claren he hunts her down mercilessly until he can set a trap which she will never be able to escape from.

Excerpt:

When my parents died, so did my obligation my suitor, Kurten. He is the real reason I am in this pickle. He is
the one that made me flee my childhood home and inheritance without the proper good bye or ceremonies. Kurten, all bloated lips and small pumpkin teeth, with his shaggy, brown hair that did nothing to hide his beady little eyes. He had come around after the funeral expecting to give me a little “comfort”. I had
other ideas in mind.

“Honestly Kurten, my parent’s funeral was this morning!” I said as I pushed his hulking, muscular, form away from me and got up from the couch. He sat upon our couch, one leg crossed casually over the other. He had just tried to kiss me in a very unchaste fashion. I don’t know what made him think he could take such
liberties with me now. I had hardly even let him touch my hand when my parents were alive. He stood, stretched, then came over to me.

“I know Dove, that’s why I came over. I knew you’d be needing me.”

His arms snaked around my waist as he pulled me close. He tried to nuzzle my neck but again I pushed against him.

“No, means no Kurten. I have so much to do, so much to think about.”

Like getting rid of you.

I loved my parents, but the fact was I had always hated Kurten. He was the typeof person that would stick a firecracker up an animal’s hind quarters just to see what would happen. He had no remorse, no feeling or compassion. Whenever I looked into his eyes I saw a dead, blank thing. Not human somehow. I knew he
had many girlfriends in St. Marhen’s many taverns. I had seen him on occasion, coming out of these very taverns with a woman on each arm. The kind of woman that took money for her favors of the carnal kind. He would always be slovenly and drunk. I would stay hidden in the shadows and never told a soul. My parents did not know this. They only knew three things, three things that to them were important, and nothing else mattered:

1. Kurten’s father was the mayor.

2.His family was wealthy.

3. I had to marry well.

EXCERPT:

Meet Leesie:
from Leesie's Most Private Chapbook, Prologue, Taken by Storm, "What does it Matter?"

What does it matter if
another jock pinches me
as I walk down the hall to Physics
and high fives Troy, celebrating
like he just scored
the season’s first touchdown?

As I stalk past Troy,
architect of my torture,
I’m frozen, a block of ice—
not a single drop melts.

All hail the Mormon Ice Queen.

What does it matter?

I know the commandment,
but I don’t even consider
turning the other cheek.

And, yes, it hurts, but
life without pain
isn’t much of a test.

This feeling can’t be lonely—
I’m not alone.

I walk with His hand on my shoulder,
His voice whispering in my soul,
His love soaring in my heart,
His suffering
my
salvation.

What else could possibly matter?

Long-time readers of dark historical fantasy (Tim Powers, Guy Gavriel Kay, Katherine Kurtz) will appreciate the weaving together of mythology, occult, and religion, while younger readers and fans of HBO dramas (True Blood, Carnivàle) or urban fantasy (Laurell K. Hamilton, Kim Harrison, Jim Butcher) will be drawn to the twisted imagination, graphic action, and romantic tension.

About The Darkening Dream

Even as the modern world pushes the supernatural aside in favor of science and steel, the old ways remain. God, demon, monster, and sorcerer alike plot to regain what was theirs.

1913, Salem, Massachusetts – Sarah Engelmann’s life is full of friends, books, and avoiding the pressure to choose a husband, until an ominous vision and the haunting call of an otherworldly trumpet shake her. When she stumbles across a gruesome corpse, she fears that her vision was more of a premonition. And when she sees the murdered boy moving through the crowd at an amusement park, Sarah is thrust into a dark battle she does not understand.

With the help of Alex, an attractive Greek immigrant who knows a startling amount about the undead, Sarah sets out to uncover the truth. Their quest takes them to the factory mills of Salem, on a midnight boat ride to spy on an eerie coastal lair, and back, unexpectedly, to their own homes. What can Alex’s elderly, vampire-hunting grandfather and Sarah’s own rabbi father tell them? And what do Sarah’s continuing visions reveal?

No less than Gabriel’s Trumpet, the tool that will announce the End of Days, is at stake, and the forces that have banded to recover it include a 900 year-old vampire, a trio of disgruntled Egyptian gods, and a demon-loving Puritan minister. At the center of this swirling cast is Sarah, who must fight a millennia-old battle against unspeakable forces, knowing the ultimate prize might be her very soul.

The Reviews Are In

"A vampire novel with actual bite." ~The Kirkus Reviews

"A gorgeously creepy, strangely humorous, and sincerely terrifying tale." ~Publishers Weekly (Starred Review)

"Mr. Gavin has brought something refreshingly new to a genre now suffused with poorly-concealed bodice-rippers which have more in common with Fabio than Bram Stoker: depth. His big baddies are scary, not romantic interests, and the added religious lore is complex and engaging. Don't expect another Twilight -- the story can get downright creepy, so be prepared for a return to the old horror sensibilities of supernatural fiction." ~Amazon Review

"With Mr. Gavin's video-game pedigree, I was expecting something aimed squarely at the 18-25 year old fanboy contingent; what I got in The Darkening Dream was something wholly unexpected: A period novel with a female protagonist, a crash-course on Judaism in the colonial years, and multi-layered series of plot arcs featuring a crazy cast of natural and supernatural characters populating turn of the century America." ~Amazon Review

"…A perfect blend of mystery, magic and myth. A grown-up Grimm's fairy tale... emphasis on grim." ~Amazon Review
