Week 1 Review: Shadowhunters and Downworlders

My Review:

Well, this wasn't what I was expecting! Reading back over the synopsis, it does say "writing about the series and it's world" but I thought that this would be stories set in this world. But it's actually essays, not stories, writing about this world. So if it's not totally non-fiction, because it's writing about a fictional world (I don't know, non-fiction is not my strong point) it's very close.

So when I was reading the first author's offering, I was like, is this in-world story? But then I finished, and that's when I realized that it wasn't a story. So that was a bit confusing, on top of it being about uncanny, and about cities, things that just kinda went over my head. 

The fact that these were written by fans of the series, talking about parts that they found most significant to them, that was a really great part of this book. Which made up for the fact that this wasn't stories in this world. Ah, well! 

Some of these authors wrote things that really added depth to the series. I'm not Jewish, so Michelle Hodkin's part about Simon and the role that he plays was so fascinating. It was things like that was the reason why I read all the extras that I know about, so I can have all the details that it's possible for me to know! 

I had a good time reading this anthology, and I can't wait to read the rest of what's been currently published for the Shandhunters world!

It's been a while since I read the first book. And book 3 hasn't been published, and maybe not even written, might never be written, so I'm a little hesitant. But I want to read it! What about you guys? Happy reading!

My Review:
It was really fantastic to read the both of these! Dream, that gave us a quick introduction to the conflicts to come, and then Creatures, giving us the start of that conflict! Really great to read, and different, seeing as it's Ridley and Link who narrate, besides the beginning with Ethan in Dream!

Dream was narrated by three, Ethan, Link, and Ridley. Which was a really nice transition, the narrator for most of the series that this is spun off of, then the narrators for this new series. That was very nice!

And the world is changing! Well, it already changed, what with the events of Beautiful Darkness, but there's some new things that they're just seeing now! Which is pretty darned great to read! The Darkborn with the grey eyes, stronger then Incubus's. Very interesting!

There was a lot going on in this book, like Ridley getting a job, but it was that ending, that wow, really got my attention! Because, boy, is that a cliffhanger, where things were left! I need to know what's going to happen next! Yeah that the next book is out already, I think!

Really fantastic to read the both of these, and I can't wait to read more!

Last Letter, First Letter Reading Challenge Update 57

OK, so I have read my next book of the year for this, and I read Dangerous Dream, Dangerous Creatures, and Empire of Night!

What it is:

You pick a book, read it. Then you look at the last letter of the title, for example, "The Adventures of Tom Saywer." Then you take that last letter, and search you TBR piles for a book starting with the last letter, so continuing the example, someone could read "Rotters" next, and then a title that starts with "s."

Rules:
1. Have fun!
2. Read!
3. The last letter of the book you read must be the first letter of the next book you read.
4. Words like "the," "a," "and," and those such don't count as the first letter.

My first review of Beautiful Redemption
My Review:
It was really great to read this book again! I had forgotten some things, things that were truly hilarious, and then all the stuff that happened in this book, basically! And seeing as there's the spin off series with Link and Ridley, well, yeah, really awesome to read this book!

I had forgotten what it was like for Ethan, to be dead, with his mom, Great Aunt Prue, and her five husbands, and how everything worked out, trying to gather everything to destroy the page that led to his death that wasn't supposed to happen.

I had forgotten that it was Link who killed Abraham. I knew that it was over really quickly, and that I didn't think that it could be that way. But nope, Link stabbed him with the garden shears from school, and killed him, and the bad guy behind the bad guy since the beginning was gone!

And Saraphine! And Angelus! That Saraphine did that because she hated Angelus more, well, that says something about how bad he was! But in the end, he was pretty easy to beat, too. It was just the loss in the end that was really hard!

It was really fantastic to read this book again, and now I can read the spin off series!
