Week 48 Review: The Study of Fire

There's just no rest for Valek, Ixia's Chief of Security. Challenges are constant and new problems arrive daily, including a request to help Castletown's watch solve the mystery of a string of nighttime disturbances, and keeping a close eye on the Commander's food taster as she schemes her way back into business. As if that isn't enough, the Commander's life is threatened.

Is the assassination attempt on the Commander a declaration of war by the Sitian Council, or is it a ruse by an unknown party to incite a war between Ixia and Sitia? Valek is sent to Sitia to discover the answer and deal with the threat.

Unfortunately, the problem turns out to be much bigger than even the council and the master magicians can handle. An unsanctioned clan with powerful warpers is plotting to take over both countries. As the danger heats up, Valek and Yelena must reunite and stop the group before they can set their entire world on fire.

A companion novel to Fire Study, The Study of Fire reveals Valek's side of the story. Find out what problems Valek tackles in Ixia before he joins Yelena in fighting against a unstoppable enemy.

My Review:
This was such a fantastic read! I love Maria V. Snyder's writing so much, and this world and these characters are so near and dear to me. To get this final story form Valek's perspective, yeah, I loved it, so we've had his and Yelena's complete story, since the 3rd trilogy in the world, featuring them, was dual perspective. 

One thing that I've loved from the beginning of Valek's Adventures, is seeing the time where they were apart, and just what they got up to. They do spend a good chunk of time apart in this book again, which lead to some interesting developments, like seeing the trio win that fight to become his seconds. 

Though on the flip side of that, we also got to see the time that she thought he was dead, and the time that she spent in the Fire Realm. Which were not great experiences for Valek, but I'm glad that we got to see what it was like for him, to have a complete picture of the story,

I am sad to sad goodbye. Who knows, we might get more time spent in this world (it kinda felt like the next generation, or at least a half generation off, might get stories, but they might not, Nothing has been announced either way that I've seen, so if it was the last, then I'm sad, but glad that we got this book, and if not, I'm glad that we're getting more! 

Loved reading this book, and I can't wait for whatever is next from Maria V. Snyder!

OK, so I got 75 posts in 7 days, I had a really great time, I read a lot of books, but boy, I'm tired, and I can't wait for 2 weeks, when I have my 2 week vacation! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read whatever I want! 

Week 18 Review: The Study of Magic

From Goodreads:

Frankly, I think death is the best cure for stupidity.

As Chief of Ixia’s Security, Valek's work is never done. After rescuing Commander Ambrose with, Yelena, his heartmate's, help and seeing her off to Sitia, Valek discovers the nefarious scheme to overthrow their country is far more complex and far reaching than anyone could have guessed.

Valek must discover who is continuing with Brazell and Mogkan's conniving plans, all while dealing with a tense political situation. The Ixian generals are questioning his abilities to keep the Commander safe, and whispers of a possible coup are circulating.

Will Valek be able to survive a plot that seeks to sabotage all he and the Commander have worked for? Also, having opened his heart to love, will Yelena still wish to be with him when all is said and done?

A companion novel to Magic Study, The Study of Magic reveals Valek's side of the story. Find out what hazards Valek encounters and survives before he and Yelena are reunited once more.

My Review:
Oh, I absolutely loved reading this book! I just love this series and these books, and these characters, they're just so great! This is the most Valek time we've had without Yelana, and I had a great time watching this story unfold! 

What I didn't realize is just how much time Valek and Yelena spend apart in the time of this book. Like, the time that they're together, it's about the last 100 pages. There was a whole plot going on that I had no idea happened! I loved how it tied into the events of the Magic Study in a way that I didn't expect! 

I loved the fact that we got to see the aftermath of Poison Study, in getting a new general appointed. That there was still some plotters in Ixia left alive, that they didn't know about, that got to the other generals, yeah, that was a bit of chaos! And I loved reading it! 

That time that they spent together, there was also things that I didn't know. Like how he inserted himself in the group of beggars. Or how he was getting hanged, while she was in trouble. I knew that something had happened to him, but it was pretty intense watching it go down! 

This was a fantastic read and I can't wait for The Study of Fire!

OK, so I got 41 posts in 7 days, it was a decent week, I'm really happy with what I read, and I can't wait for next week! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read Random in Death!

My Review:
I just loved reading this collection so much! This world is just so amazing, and to have all these short stories all collected together, including some new stories, was just fantastic! I just loved being with these characters again! 

I've read the stories like Assassin Study and Power and Ice Study multiple times at this point. What I didn't know was that Assassin Study was a vote as you go story that readers got to vote on. That we got the original outline with the choices was so interesting, to see what could've happened! 

I don't know which new story I loved more Diamond Study, of Commander Ambrose and his beginnings of the rebellion. Wedding Study, of the time leading up to Yelena and Valek's wedding (and the updates there.) And After Study, with the characters who were kids now pretty much grown up. It was all so good! And oh, the updates! I squealed a few times, because eek, it was so cute! 

The fact that art from the fans about this series was included was just so touching! I don't have an artistic bone in my body, but the idea of fan work published alongside the creator that inspired that fan is a wonderful fact! 

Loved reading this collection, I'm so excited for the next 2 books of Valek's story, and whatever is next from this world!
