Week 29 Reviews: Cytonic, Evershore

My first review of Cytonic, Evershore
My Review:
Well of course I loved reading these books again! I just love this series, and things are really getting intense at this point, where there's only one book left in this main series, in this story arc, before the Skyward Legacy series that it looks like is coming next. 

Spensa is the in the Nowhere, to learn more about the delvers, and to learn more about her powers. And she accomplishes both, with the "path of Elders" that technically is something, just that that name, that quest, was made up for her, the places and the knowledge that she needed weren't. 

And oh, Evershore. Poor Jorgen! First his parents are killed, and Cobb is missing, so his usual chain of commands are gone. He takes charge, but boy, does he feel a lot of uncertainty and guilt. He's facing off against a really big opposing force, and I loved watching it all go down!

So much has happened in these books, and I'm so excited to see what this means for the future in the fight against the Superiority and the delvers, of how much a threat that Spensa is going to be, because they feared what she has now become-I can't wait to see why!

These were so fantastic to read, and I can't wait for Defiant!

OK, so I got 27 posts in 7 days, I read a decent amount of books, in series, which led to just 5 review posts which was kinda nice and I'm happy with that. Dobby's vet appointment went pretty well, he's scheduled for another cancer surgery for next Monday, but the vet said that it was localized and aggressive, so it's not spreading, but that's why it keeps coming back and he's had 3 surgeries in the past 3 years, which will soon become 4 surgeries in the past 4 years. But he's in otherwise pretty good health for his 15 year old man self! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read A Soul of Ash and Blood.

Week 28 Reviews: Defending Elysium, Skyward, Starsight, Sunreach, ReDawn

My Review:
It was so great to come back to the beginning of this series! I've only read these books the one time, and as they were being released (besides the short story which came out before I knew about Brandon Sanderson) with the 4th and final book in this story arc coming out at the end of this year. I had to reread it and this was the perfect month! 

Of course I had to reread everything (I'm 98% sure that Jason is the one that the delvers mourn and are the way they are) and it was interesting to see a peak at what it was like in the early days of humanity knowing about aliens and interacting. I would love to have a timeline, to know how long it was after Defending Elysium and the first war, the 2nd, and the 3rd! 

I just love Spensa, she's fierce, and her threats of violence were really creative. She also learns and grows, about honor and courage and learning the truth about the situation with her father, and her abilities. They're just so great to read! 

So for me, a big thing is the primary intelligence. In Defending Elysium, Jason wants that for humanity until he learns how those who disent are treated. (Side note, it makes me wonder if any of those dissenters were involved in humanities 3 wars with the rest of the galaxy?) And the way the races who are secondary intelligence, and who aren't a part of the Superiority are treated in Starsight takes it on through a different angle, not from insiders or outsiders, but from those in the middle, to see just how bad a system is. If it's not fair for everyone, then it's not good enough, and if people are dissenting it and being treated terribly, then it's not fair. 

Loved reading these stories again, and I'm so excited for more!

Magical Readathon: Orilium: 


OK, so I got 53 posts in 7 days, which is pretty great, because I read some amazing books, and then there's all those wrap up/start new year posts. Otherwise, this week was pretty quiet, though I did, on Thursday, wipe out on my bike twice on the way home. Got some awful bruises, and I was awfully apprehensive about going into work on Friday, but nothing happened then, so that was good! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Week 52 Review: Evershore

They intercept a strange transmission from the planet Evershore and its Kitsen inhabitants, who say they have some of Jorgen's people and want to return them—but can the Kitsen be trusted? And can Jorgen learn to master his increasingly erratic cytonic powers before they spiral out of control and destroy all hope of forming an alliance against the Superiority? 

My Review:
Oh, man, this was a fantastic story! I felt so badly for Jorgen, after the end of the previous novella, with his parents dying right in front of him, with Cobb missing, Jorgen has a lot of stress on him, and lot of burdens that he's worried that he's going to mess up. And given that humanity is fighting against an enemy that wants to wipe them out, the stakes are high. So it kinda sucks to be him!

This story mainly takes place on the Kitsen planet as they are the next group of people with whom humanity can ally with. We did meet them before in Starsight, and of course there was the no-longer-emperor in Cytonic, so it was great to have a full story of interactions with them! And given that they have a rich history of Cytonics, even if no Cytonics have been born among them in a while, is very helpful! 

A good portion of this book is Jorgen learning how to use his cytonic abilities. We've see both Spensa and Alanik deal with theirs, but each person has different strengths, and Jorgen learns his strength in this book, with the help of a Kitsen mentor, which was pretty hilarious! 

Cytonic did mention that Jorgen would be the commander of the forces, as well as that Detritus had moved, but I'd forgotten that, so when all that went down, well, it was pretty shocking! I mean, who could see that one coming! But I can't wait to see how that all pays out! 

Loved reading this novella, and I can't wait for the final book in the Skyward series, at least, the final one following Spensa!

OK, so I got 48 posts in 7 days, and yeah, it was a pretty great though short week, I read some really great books! Yesterday wasn't so great, had a headache, and I'm worried I'll have it today, but if I do, it won't be as bad as it was yesterday! But yeah, there's some really great books that I want to read this week that I can't wait for! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Week 44 Review: ReDawn

My Review:
This was another great story! I'm so glad that we're getting these, I'm loving getting other perspectives in this world besides Spensa, and getting Alanik's perspective was extra special, because she's an alien cytonic who knows how to use her abilities, and that's just so fantastic! 

We're thrown pretty quickly into the politics of ReDawn, and that was so fascinating, because they're in a better place than humanity-but not by much. They haven't been in open warfare, but they have been pretty isolated, and part of their government wants to work with the Superiority. Which Alanik and her side vehemently disagree with. 

I loved to continue to learn about cytonics, Alanik is trained and she has her areas of strength, and that was just fantastic. And then there's the floating weapon that they get into, and what that opens up to is so excited, and I can't wait to see where things go from there! 

That ending was just incredible, and between the big fight previously, and everything that happened there, and this ending, well, I need to know what's going to happen next, because that's a pretty perilous place that they're in right now! 

This was such a great read, and I can't wait for Cytonic and Evershore!
