Resisting Ruby Rose: Review

From Goodreads:
Still reeling from the heartbreaking events that unfolded on Grissom Island, Ruby Rose is trying to come to terms with the fact that she's gone from a vigilante in killer shoes to a stone-cold killer. Everyone from her therapist to her smoking-hot boyfriend keeps trying to convince her that she hasn't crossed over to the dark side, but Ruby isn't so sure. It doesn't help that her nemesis, Detective “Mastermind” Martinez, is still out there, waiting for another chance to take her down.

When an alleged CIA agent named Skryker shows up and asks for a meeting, Ruby figures it just means more questions about her case. But he has information of an entirely different nature and a job offer: join an elite force of young assassins, including Skryker's right-hand guy, Quinn Donovan. Quinn is distractingly charming, handsome—and deadly. Ruby resists becoming a killer again, but as she becomes more ensnared in a web of deceit, no one around her is safe.

My Review:
So this picks up about 5 months after the ending of Killing Ruby Rose, and yeah, it's different then Killing, a bit, because they know why the bad guy is doing what he's doing, and who is is. And then Skryker happens. Oh, and so does Quinn.

This book dives right into the action, with a bomb, and yeah, it pretty much never stops! That was something that I liked in Killing, and continued to like here, and it wasn't meaningless violence, either. There were points to it, whether good ones or bad ones!

I really enjoyed Quinn, though he basically signalled a change, one that I didn't want to like, but ended up pretty good-Liam pretty much joining the dark side, and yeah, that lost chance. But yeah, Quinn was there, and he was really entertaining!

I really enjoyed the mystery in this book, because hey, the CIA was watching Martinez, but didn't stop him? That raised a few red flags. And yeah, that led to the ending, with the teens being blackmailed into helping the CIA, which is not a good position to be in! Can't wait till they get out of it!

Favourite lines: "If my mom only knew how close Liam and I had become in the last few months, she'd die. Then rise from the grave to have him arrested again." This is just so funny! Loved it a lot!

Yes, this was an excellent sequel, and yeah, I really want more!

The Reward Challenge Update #163

The Reward Challenge is almost the complete opposite to a book buying ban as you'll end up buying lots of new books throughout the challenge but only after you've completed a certain amount of reading. It was hosted by Good Golly Miss Holly, so thanks to her for starting it!

So I said that I was going to be changing this, so yeah, that update number is right, this is the 163rd Reward Challenge post, and yeah. I'm going to do, for every count, I can put towards 50 cents.

OK, so I already had 1 count, and I read At Any Moment which counts twice as a Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book, Ice Hunt which counts twice as a SAC 2014 Book, Poison Dance which counts 3 times as a Historical Fiction 2014 Book and a Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book, Midnight Thief which counts 6 times as a DAC Book, Historical Fiction 2014 Book, NetGalley Book, Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book and a WoW Book, Justice Buried which counts 3 times as a 2014 Dystopia Book and a Prequel & Sequel Challenge Book, Lexan's Pledge which counts 3 times as a 2014 Dystopia Book and a Prequel & Sequel Challenge Book, Balance Broken which counts 3 times as a review book and a Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book, Resisting Ruby Rose which counts 4 times as a review book, Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book and WoW Book, Locke which counts 3 times as a End of Series 2014 Book and a Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book, Claiming the Highlander which counts 3 times as a Historical Fiction 2014 Book and a  Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book, Born in Sin which counts 3 times as a Historical Fiction 2014 Book and a  Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book, Wild which counts 5 times as a Edelweiss Book, End of Series 2014 Book, Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book and a WoW Book!

At a score and five years, he had claimed more hearts than anyone could count and charmed more women then there were stars in the heavens. Balance Broken: Review

From Goodreads:
Balance Broken is the second in the Starbright series. In the first book, Justice Buried, Astrea fights to remain independent in a world which demands she submit to an ancient prophecy. In Balance Broken, she learns that independence means little when the world is depending on her.

The world cries for Order, but she's igniting a revolution.

One hundred years before, the Great Sickness reduced the world to three cities. Now, Asphodel no longer lingers underground, and the Starbright Maiden of Justice has returned.

Everyone has faith in Astrea's ability to save the world - but only she knows the dark truth about her powers.

Astrea teams with Stian, Lexan, and Zarea to enlist the help of Lord Hadeon of Tartarus. They hope Hadeon will aid in attacking Asphodel's First Leader Keirna, but the Destroyer usually takes lives, not sides.

As Astrea discovers life outside of Asphodel, she begins to wonder whether the remaining world is too broken to save - especially since the price of freedom just might be her own life.

My Review:
Wow, I really enjoyed this book! Picking shortly after Justice Buried, things just start steam rolling over anything they could-including but not limited to my heart, my blood pressure, and my head! There was just a lot going on, and it meant a lot to Trea!

So this book, while there's still the triangle, which was put into a bit of a square with Zarea, it's not the most important thing, because Trea has decided that she does have a big part to play in the prophecy, and that's more important then her love life!

This book focused more on Astrea and Lexan, because they've known each other their whole lives, and now they're on the surface, and they're outsiders, and the know very little about what's going on-and the other is really the only familiar thing. Oh, and they both have a part to play in the prophecy!

This book really delved into the history, of the Cleansing, as it's called above, and how it was life for those that wasn't in one of the cities, which, honestly, would not be fun at all. And then tying in that with Keirna's actions, past and current, well, they have even more motivation!

Really enjoyed this book, it was an awesome sequel, and yeah, can't wait for more!

Reason Why: Sounded really good! And it's a Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2016 Book!
Published: October 30th 2014

4.5/5 Books
5/5 Stars

Bio:
Hilary Thompson was born to parents who made a habit of taking roads less traveled. But she was also a first child, and an independent, willful child, so she has made a habit of taking a few roads on her own.

After trying on hats made for artists, architects, restaurant and retail workers, landscape designers, legal secretaries, and professional students, she retreated back to her first loves of education and writing.

Hilary now teaches high school full time, writes whenever and wherever she can, and reads as much as her eyes can handle. She also tries not to spoil her own independent, willful children or neglect her wonderful soul-mate of a husband too much. She tends to ignore laundry baskets and dirty dishes.

The year is 1771, and war is coming. Jamie Fraser’s wife tells him so. Little as he wishes to, he must believe it, for hers is a gift of dreadful prophecy — a time-traveler’s certain knowledge.

Born in the year of Our Lord 1918, Claire Randall served England as a nurse on the battlefields of World War II, and in the aftermath of peace found fresh conflicts when she walked through a cleftstone on the Scottish Highlands and found herself an outlander, an English lady in a place where no lady should be, in a time — 1743 — when the only English in Scotland were the officers and men of King George’s army.

Now wife, mother, and surgeon, Claire is still an outlander, out of place, and out of time, but now, by choice, linked by love to her only anchor — Jamie Fraser. Her unique view of the future has brought him both danger and deliverance in the past; her knowledge of the oncoming revolution is a flickering torch that may light his way through the perilous years ahead — or ignite a conflagration that will leave their lives in ashes....

Grand, sweeping, utterly unforgettable, Diana Gabaldon’s new novel is riveting entertainment, a vibrant tapestry of history and human drama. Crossing the boundaries of genre with its unrivaled storytelling, The Fiery Cross is a gift both to her millions of loyal fans and to the lucky readers who have yet to discover her.

Why the time hasn't come yet...
Same reason as the others-hadn't read the previous ones yet, and I still have 3 more after this! Yeah! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Mason's psychotic sister-in-law has escaped from custody, putting her sons — the nephews he's raising — in the crosshairs. When his house is burned to the ground, he and Rachel are relieved that there are no bodies in the smoldering rubble, but now his nephews are missing and the clock is ticking.

The Shape of My Heart by Ann Aguirre
Expected Publication: November 25th, 2014

Some people wait decades to meet their soul mate. Courtney Kaufman suspects she met hers in high school only to lose him at seventeen. Since then, Courtney's social life has been a series of meaningless encounters, though she's made a few close friends along the way. Especially her roommate Max Cooper, who oozes damaged bad-boy vibes from every pore.

Max knows about feeling lost and trying to move beyond the pain he's been on his own since he was sixteen. Now it's time to find out if he can ever go home again, and Courtney's the only one he trusts to go with him. But the trip to Providence could change everything because the more time he spends with Courtney, the harder it is to reconcile what he wants and what he thinks he deserves.

It started out so simple. One misfit helping another. Now Max will do anything to show Courtney that for every heart that's ever been broken, there's another that can make it complete.

OK, so I got 69 posts in 7 days, which isn't as many as last week, but still a lot more then I usually post, so yeah, I'm tired! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read Justice Buried, Lexan's Pledge, Balance Broken and Resisting Ruby Rose.
The people need Justice, but she's not listening. One hundred years before, the Great Sickness reduced the world to three cities. Now the community of Asphodel is trapped underground, waiting for the prophesied maiden of Justice to return and save them from their Fates. Sixteen-year-old Astrea is supposed to be this savior - too bad for them she isn't a believer. Trea fights against her false destiny: she rebels against her family and friends, then refuses her arranged marriage to the charming but deceitful Lexan. Learning her life is in danger, Trea is forced to trust Lexan - until she discovers a power she never knew she had, and one he already knew he did. As betrayal closes every door, Trea decides she must submit to her stars and accept her fate. Then a handsome stranger offers her an unexpected escape and the chance to create her own destiny.
There will come three...
A child of peace, born in a place of war.
A child of right, born in a place of many wrongs.
A child of lawfulness, born in a place with no laws.

The secrets of Asphodel continue to spill as Lexan tells his side of the story. Lexan has been pretending for so long that he barely remembers why. All he knows is that it's getting harder to be the image of perfection that everyone expects. With Keirna plotting murder, Saloman having visions, and Trea throwing tantrums, Lexan just might be ready to risk his world for the chance at a better one.
Balance Broken is the second in the Starbright series. In the first book, Justice Buried, Astrea fights to remain independent in a world which demands she submit to an ancient prophecy. In Balance Broken, she learns that independence means little when the world is depending on her.

The world cries for Order, but she’s igniting a revolution.

One hundred years before, the Great Sickness reduced the world to three cities. Now, Asphodel no longer lingers underground, and the Starbright Maiden of Justice has returned.

As Astrea discovers life outside of Asphodel, she begins to wonder whether the remaining world is too broken to save - especially since the price of freedom just might be her own life.
