Week 50 Review: Dolls Gone Wild

From Goodreads:
So far my job month, which should've been lowkey and easy, has gone

1. A bride wants to divorce her dead husband. (You unfortunately read that right.)

2. Zhen gets called into work anyway because they lost Annabelle at the airport. Yes. That Annabelle. (#nothankyou)

3. Jasha is magical. With a familiar. (Anyone have this on their bingo card? I didn't.)

4. A ghost groom abduction. (I don't get paid enough for this.)

Is it too late to revoke my supernatural club membership?

Magical realism, ghost to ghost networking, we get to meet some of Zhen's friends, power couple, Chinese mythology, multicultural romance, part time soulmates, full time problem, relationship negotiations, haunted walmart is no longer haunted, things happened okay, Annabelle is Zhen's worst nightmare come to life, he HATES dolls, on the plus side Kris has more content to post, Houdou continue to be awesome, yay power development, cursed sword is still cursed, but not for long!

Bonded Lovers, Paranormal, Supernatural, Urban, Ghost Groom, Mystery, Humorous, Chinese mythology, multicultural romance

  • Open to a random page

Today's teaser comes from Dolls Gone Wild by Allie Brahms, page 21.

"But there are living women who don't want to bother with a husband and don't want the stigma of not being married. It's culturally inappropriate in China to not marry."

Oh, I can totally understand that! Must read more now! What about you guys? Happy reading!

An Archive of Romance by Ava Reid
Expected Publication: December 9th, 2025
From Goodreads:
The enchanting world of A Study in Drowning comes to life through letters, poems, art, and more in this beautifully illustrated full-color novella from #1 New York Times bestselling author Ava Reid, featuring over forty illustrations, expanded and new text, stunning endpapers, and romantic rose gold foil for a jaw-dropping addition to the beloved dark academia series.

“I will love you to ruination,” the Fairy King said, brushing a strand of golden hair from my cheek.

“Yours or mine?” I asked.

The Fairy King did not answer.

Effy and Preston have been torn apart by the wars of men, the power of words, and the specter of magic—but it was through stories that they found each other. Relive Effy and Preston’s love story through their own pens in this immersive collection of mementos, illustrations, maps, blueprints, diary entries, and more. Read Angharad with Effy's annotations; sneak excerpts of Preston's diary; see the architectural sketches that brought Effy to Hiraeth; get your own ticket to Saltney; and experience the never-before-seen epilogue to Effy and Preston’s romance.

A perfect gift for fans of A Study in Drowning and A Theory of Dreaming and anyone who wants to embark on their own dark academia journey, this gorgeously illustrated novella collects ephemera from Effy and Preston as they remember the romance and prepare for a new chapter in their lives—together.

Seeing Other People by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegmund-Broka
Expected Publication: December 9th, 2025
From Goodreads:
Two people haunted by their exes find that love isn’t dead in this heartfelt romance from the beloved authors of The Roughest Draft.

Morgan is being ghosted by her ex. No, really. It’s sad Zach died and became a ghost. But Morgan and Zach only ever went on the one date, and now she’s being haunted by him. Zach has no desire to spend eternity with Morgan, but he can’t recall his past and doesn’t know how to move on.

At a support group for humans and their haunters, Morgan and Zach run into Sawyer, whose fiancée-turned-ghost has started to fade. Unlike Morgan, Sawyer isn’t ready to part ways with his ghost. Although they face opposite issues, Morgan and Sawyer decide to work together to solve their problems.

As Morgan and Sawyer try to solve their paranormal conundrums together, they find something even more surprising—a tender, growing affection between them that threatens any unfinished business they’re seeking to close. The ghosts of their past might be there in spirit, but the connection between Morgan and Sawyer is as alive as anything they’ve ever felt.

Just 2 books, but both from authors that I love, and I need to read them! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Rachel Hartman's Seraphina meets The Priory of the Orange Tree in Lady Dragon, a sapphic YA romantasy from A.M. Strickland.

Since the last war between humans and dragons left the leaders of both species slain—the last human king of Andrath and the legendary dragon queen—both queendoms have been living under a tentative truce: only women will sit on the throne of Andrath, the dragons will have free passage through the human lands . . . and if men ever try to retake the throne, the draconic realm will retaliate.

Samansa and Kirek are two new leaders coming of age in war-scarred lands—Samansa a reluctant human princess and Kirek the favored contender for the draconic queenship. Per tradition, Kirek must undergo the distasteful task of using a mysterious gem called the Heartstone to shift into human form and maintain the strained ties between the species . . . and study human weaknesses, a new and secret task she's been given by her queen. As the princess and the dragon girl grow closer, they are sent to investigate a potential breach of the treaty and encounter a plot that could reignite an even bloodier war. While fighting to maintain the peace their ancestors fought for and uncovering centuries-old secrets, Samansa and Kirek must grapple with betraying their clashing nations . . . or their unexpected feelings for each other.

"The world was chaos. Abe ran directly ahead of her, and that was an odd sight. Abe never ran-he wasn't athletic enough to really do that for long stretches of time. Even now, she could hear him wheezing, see his feet stumble a bit from fatigue, but he kept trying to run People jostled them from all sides-women, children, men, all panicking as they tried to feel the city before it was consumed."-Tomes Apprentice by Honor Raconteur

OK, so I got 35 posts in 7 days, and that was about what I expected. It was hard, putting Jax down, and I miss him so much, but he's not in pain anymore. I have been reading a bit slower since then, but I needed that, and we'll see what this week brings. What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read whatever I want!

Week 32 Review: All Fun and Games

From Goodreads:
It's all fun and games until someone gets murdered.

Well, the Queen's Own certainly isn't having fun, because what's worse than one case? Two, of course. And what's worse than two? Whatever madness Jamie's currently in.

The body count is rising, all the MO’s are different, and cleaning charms have wiped the murder scenes of clues. It's hard to link the cases beyond the use of the charms, yet Jamie is sure there's a connection. But what is it?

They need to figure out the answer fast, because the clues suggest one of their own might be next.

My Review:
I enjoyed reading this book so much! I am a bit sad that this is apparently the penultimate installment, but boy did they have a case in this book! I really enjoyed watching them investigate!

Immortal by Morning by Lynsay Sands
Expected Publication: July 29th, 2025
From Goodreads:
Being an immortal rogue enforcer is never easy. But when human bones are found buried in a residential garden—and they happen to be discovered by your life mate—things get even more complicated in this latest installment of the Argeneau vampire series.

Crispinus Delacort is an immortal rogue enforcer and a homicide detective. But in his quiet city, he’s more likely to be rounding up truant teens than investigating murders. So, when he learns that human bones have been found in the garden of a sprawling rural home, it’s unexpected to say the least.

Abril Newman can’t believe her bad luck when she discovers a body buried on the grounds of her boss’s home, while chasing after Gina’s mischievous lab Lilith. She was just supposed to be house-sitting for a few days! And then Detective Delacort arrives. She knows she shouldn’t be thinking about love when there’s a crime scene outside the door. But ignoring her attraction to gorgeous Crispin is easier said than done.

When Crispin realizes that a rogue is involved, he knows this won’t be a simple investigation. Especially because he’s so distracted by Abril’s presence that all he wants is to kiss her senseless in every room of the manor. But he can woo her, solve the case, and stop a dangerous rogue by morning... right? All in a day’s work.

We Won't All Survive by Kate Alice Marshall
Expected Publication: July 29th, 2025
From Goodreads:
From the bestselling author of I Am Still Alive comes a new nail-biter that's part survival story, part murder mystery, and all thriller—perfect for fans of Karen McManus and Holly Jackson!

Two years ago Mercy Gray was hailed as a hero for saving lives during a mall shooting. She still carries souvenirs from that incident: the fragment of a bullet lodged in her back, a mountain of medical debt, and guilt for ignoring her sister’s warnings that the sweet boy next door was anything but.

When billionaire-turned-TV-host Damien Dare recruits Mercy to compete on his new survivalist reality show, she can’t turn down a chance at the whopping cash prize that could send her sister to college—but when she and the other contestants arrive at the off-grid location, something isn’t right. The set is empty. The gates close without warning, trapping them inside. Then one of them turns up dead. What appeared at first to be a tragic accident quickly transforms as more contestants start dying. With time and resources running low, surviving this show takes on a new meaning.

A Theory of Dreaming by Ava Reid
Expected Publication: July 29th, 2025
From Goodreads:
Return to the immersive, lush, and dreamlike world of the instantly bestselling dark academia fantasy A Study in Drowning as the aftermath of their first discovery pulls Effy and Preston on a final adventure and brings their haunting love story to its end in this stunning sequel and final book in the duology.

All stories come to an end.

Effy learned that when she defeated the Fairy King. Even though she may never know exactly what happened at Hiraeth, she is free of her nightmares and is able to pen a thesis with Preston on the beloved national fairy tale Angharad. She has finally earned a spot at the literature college, making her the first woman in history to enroll.

But some dreams are dangerous, especially when they come true. The entire university—and soon the entire nation—is waiting for her to fail. With the Fairy King defeated and Myrddin’s legacy exposed, Effy can no longer escape into fantasy. Who is she without her stories?

With Effy under threat, Preston is surprised to discover a rage simmering inside him, ringing in his ears like bells. He begins to dream of a palace under the sea, a world where he is king—visions that start to follow him even in waking.

As the war between Llyr and Argant explodes, Effy and Preston find themselves caught in the crossfire: Effy losing her dreams and Preston losing himself in his.

Are dreams ever truly just dreams?

Wrath of the Dragons by Olivia Rose Darling
Expected Publication: July 29th, 2025
From Goodreads:
The second novel in Olivia Rose Darling's thrilling and steamy romantic fantasy series, following Fear the Flames.

In the explosive sequel to the bestselling romantasy Fear the Flames, two fated lovers must unite against warring kingdoms to defend their home and crowns from those who wish to destroy them.

Cayden Veles, renowned Demon Commander of Vareveth, overthrew the throne to save Elowen Atarah, the woman he searched for since childhood. Now he’s determined to fulfill his quest for revenge against her father, even if it means forcing the only person he’s ever wanted into a marriage of political convenience.

Elowen Atarah has everything she thought she’d ever want. Finally reunited with her dragons, she now has an army to enact vengeance, but as events transpire, she begins contemplating if she wants more. As her father’s only living heir, the Imirath throne is her right and destiny. But fighting and winning a war will require trusting Cayden Veles, her partner in crime and now king to her queen; the man she both longs for and doubts, especially after opening her heart only to become a pawn in his game.

Navigating the shifting allegiances amongst all the kingdoms of Ravaryn will require all their strategy and strength, with devastating and bloody attacks on one side and cutthroat diplomacy for alliances on the other. But Elowen and Cayden must find a way to stand strong within the power they’ve gained, or risk losing everything.

Delving deeper into a vast and ever-changing world, Wrath of the Dragons will take you on a journey filled with epic battles and a tender, angsty love for the ages.

Unfortunately for her, the only person with a connection to the mysterious creature is the bookish Virgil Hawthorne…and he knows about them because he is one. They need to figure out the answer fast, because the clues suggest one of their own might be next.
