Week 35 Review: Midnight at the Electric

My Review:
This was a pretty great read. It's not an action packed book, it's slower and deals with moving on and it's quiet. The writing was lyrical, and I enjoyed learning about these different characters and learning how they were connected.

All of these characters are on the verge of leaving. Adri to leave Earth, Catherine to leave her small town farm during the Dust Bowl, Lenore to leave England after WW1. Change is uncertain and hard, and they all face it. I really enjoyed watching their journeys!

In each section were had a different method of communication. Adri's sections were as regular book. Catherine's first section was diary entries, and her second section and Lenore's sections were letters that they wrote. I enjoyed how they were all connected, and how Adri learns about Catherine and Lenore's story, and Catherine finds out about Lenore's! It was so well written!

This book was kinda melancholy, which goes with all the change that they're going through. And while both Catherine and Adri's fates are uncertain, there's hope, and I would like to imagine the best lives happened for them!

Yeah, it's not my usual book, but I did enjoy it!

Week 32 Review: The Vanishing Season

My Review:
This was a really interesting book. I kinda thought from the synopsis that this would have a bit of action, or mystery, and they did, but not at the levels that I thought, it was more these things were happening and affecting lives, but they weren't really the focus of the book.

One thing that I really hated, was small town assumptions. Because they went as far as to burn Liam's house. All for reasons that he and his dad were weird and crazy and could be the murder, one example given that the dad had buried an animal. Ever consider that instead of the dad killing the animal, he found it dead, and was just burying it? No! Just horrible!

Though I didn't like Liam and how he handled when Pauline came back. I mean, he was dating Maggie, and yet, he kissed Pauline when she came onto him, and she did that knowing that he and Maggie where dating. So I really didn't like them doing that!

And that ending! That was just so sad, that the presence that had some short thoughts throughout the book, and who it turned out to be! And how she ended up that way! So sad! And the fact that the bad guy was never caught, and he died after a long life in an accident. Just unfair! But a good book!

Favourite line: "'Dad, this is Liam.' 'Hi, Liam. I prefer that if you want to make out with my daughter, you do it where I can't see it? I'm old-fashioned that way.'" Oh, this is so funny to me!

Really enjoyable book, though pretty sad. Great to read it!
