We Have the Title of The Scholomance #3!!!!

OK, so I got 36 posts in 7 days, and it was a pretty great week, I read some great books, and there was Christmas. Mine was quiet again, it was just me and my parents, because my brother couldn't make it at the last minute because he doesn't have snow tires. What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read The Mask Falling!

Dreamwalker Paige Mahoney has eluded death again. Snatched from the jaws of captivity and consigned to a safe house in the Scion Citadel of Paris, she finds herself caught between those factions that seek Scion's downfall and those who would kill to protect the Rephaim's puppet empire.

The mysterious Domino Program has plans for Paige, but she has ambitions of her own in this new citadel. With Arcturus Mesarthim-her former enemy-at her side, she embarks on an adventure that will lead her from the catacombs of Paris to the glittering hallways of Versailles. Her risks promise high reward: the Parisian underworld could yield the means to escalate her rebellion to outright war.

As Scion widens its bounds and the free world trembles in its shadow, Paige must fight her own memories after her ordeal at the hands of Scion. Meanwhile, she strives to understand her bond with Arcturus, which grows stronger by the day. But there are those who know the revolution began with them-and could end with them...

Week 51 Review: Servants of the Storm

From Goodreads:
A year ago Hurricane Josephine swept through Savannah, Georgia, leaving behind nothing but death and destruction — and taking the life of Dovey's best friend, Carly. Since that night, Dovey has been in a medicated haze, numb to everything around her.

But recently she's started to believe she's seeing things that can't be real... including Carly at their favorite café. Determined to learn the truth, Dovey stops taking her pills. And the world that opens up to her is unlike anything she could have imagined.

As Dovey slips deeper into the shadowy corners of Savannah — where the dark and horrifying secrets lurk — she learns that the storm that destroyed her city and stole her friend was much more than a force of nature. And now the sinister beings truly responsible are out to finish what they started.

Dovey's running out of time and torn between two paths. Will she trust her childhood friend Baker, who can't see the threatening darkness but promises to never give up on Dovey and Carly? Or will she plot with the sexy stranger, Isaac, who offers all the answers — for a price? Soon Dovey realizes that the danger closing in has little to do with Carly... and everything to do with Dovey herself.

My Review:
I had a great time with this book! It was dark and atmospheric and I had a great time reading it! The idea of demons living in the devastation of storms, in that negative energy until they had the power to basically bring about those storms was pretty fascinating!

The whole thing with the distal bones as well, that was interesting and so infuriating! It was an awful situation to be in, and I just wanted her to get out! But oh, was it an entertaining read watching it all go down, I just had to know more!

This world, and what was hiding in the storm was so compelling! It was dark and twisted, and watching Dovey enter further and further, the tension just kept rising. Because we can't fully trust Dovey because she's coming off antipsychotics just worked perfectly with everything going on!

That ending, though? Oh, that ending hit hard! After this whole time where she's learned that she's not crazy, the dark side of this world is hiding, and for things to end that way? Oh, that was just evil! I feel so badly for Dovey!

This was a really dark and creepy read, and I had a great time reading it!

21 Books to Read in 2021 Update 15

Yeah, I read my next book for the 21 Books to Read in 2021 Challenge!

So I read Servants of the Storm by Delilah S. Dawson from the Physical List! I am in such trouble! I still have 44 books to read, of 63. Bah. I think I'll have to carry this over into 2022, as well as 2022 books! I feel so bad! I'll have to do better, though I think either 2022 or 2023 I'll have to combine NetGalley and Edelweiss, because having 66 or 69 books to read is a little scary!

Yep. Happy reading!

Here's the link to this year's post with my journey.

But to recap, I wanted to do a version of These Books Will Self Destruct in 12 months without the self destruct. I wanted to read books that I've had for a while, that I really needed to get read, but maybe I forgot about them or that I had them. So I made 3 lists, one for each way I have them, as physical books, as an NetGalley ARC, and as an Edelweiss ARC.

Will the Time Come #330, September 28th

Every Thursday I am going to list a book which I really want to read/keep meaning to get to. These are mostly books which have been on my shelf for awhile now but don't have to be, maybe you got it two weeks ago and really want to read it! Thanks to Jodie from Books for Company for this meme!

First in a steampunk-tinged paranormal romance series in which a woman is transported to a world filled with vampires and magic.

When nurse Tish Everett forced open the pesky but lovely locket she found at an estate sale, she had no idea she was answering the call of Criminy Stain, from the far off land of Sang. He’d cast a spell for her, but when she’s transported right to him, she’s not so sure she’s ready to be under the spell of another man. (It didn’t go so well last time with controlling, abusive, domineering Jeff.) If only Criminy wasn’t so deliciously rakish….

Half the inhabitants of Sang are Pinkies—human—and the other half are Bludmen, who in Tish’s world would be called vampires. But they don’t mess with any of the bat/coffin/no sunlight nonsense. They’re rather like you and me, just more fabulous, long living, and mostly indestructible. (They're also very good kissers.) But when the evil Mayor of Manchester (formerly Bludchester) redoubles his efforts to rid Sang of the Bludmen once and for all, stealing Tish’s locket in hopes of traveling back to her world himself for reinforcements, Criminy and Tish must battle ghosts, sea monsters, wayward submarines, a secret cabal, and thundering Bludmares to get the locket back and allow Tish to return home…but has she found love with Criminy? Could she stay in Sang forever?

Why the time hasn't come yet...
I only just really found it, and I've really enjoyed her writing! Hopefully I'll be able to read it soon! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Week 18 Reviews: Hit, Strike

From Goodreads:
NO ONE READS THE FINE PRINT.

The good news is that the USA is finally out of debt. The bad news is that we were bought out by Valor National Bank, and debtors are the new big game, thanks to a tricky little clause hidden deep in the fine print of a credit card application. Now, after a swift and silent takeover that leaves 9-1-1 calls going through to Valor voicemail, they’re unleashing a wave of anarchy across the country.

Patsy didn’t have much of a choice. When the suits showed up at her house threatening to kill her mother then and there for outstanding debt unless Patsy agreed to be an indentured assassin, what was she supposed to do? Let her own mother die?

Patsy is forced to take on a five-day mission to complete a hit list of ten names. Each name on Patsy's list has only three choices: pay the debt on the spot, agree to work as a bounty hunter, or die. And Patsy has to kill them personally, or else her mom takes a bullet of her own.

Since yarn bombing is the only rebellion in Patsy's past, she's horrified and overwhelmed, especially as she realizes that most of the ten people on her list aren't strangers. Things get even more complicated when a moment of mercy lands her with a sidekick: a hot rich kid named Wyatt whose brother is the last name on Patsy's list. The two share an intense chemistry even as every tick of the clock draws them closer to an impossible choice.

Delilah S. Dawson offers an absorbing, frightening glimpse at a reality just steps away from ours—a taut, suspenseful thriller that absolutely mesmerizes from start to finish.

From Goodreads:
The hit list was just the beginning.

Time to strike back.

After faking her own death to escape her term as an indentured assassin for Valor Savings Bank, Patsy is on the run with her boyfriend, Wyatt. All she wants to do is go home, but that's never going to happen—not as long as Valor's out to get her and the people she loves.

Left with no good choices, Patsy's only option is to meet with a mysterious group that calls itself the Citizens for Freedom.

Led by the charismatic Leon Crane, the CFF seem like just what Patsy has been looking for. Leon promises that if she joins, she'll finally get revenge on Valor for everything they've done to her—and for everything they've made her do.

But Patsy knows the CFF has a few secrets of their own. One thing is certain: they'll do absolutely anything to complete their mission, no matter who's standing in their way. Even if it's Patsy herself.

My Review:
Well, this was a really fantastic series! I thought that I had already reviewed them, but oh, well, I can do that now! I absolutely adored the world building-and hated that these people had to live in this world! It's a fantastic series!

I can totally see something like this happening in real life. What with the economy going up and down, the crash that was in either '05 or '08, I believe, or both, one the housing market, the other Wall Street. But having a bank take over as the government, and using people with so much debt as killers or recruiters? Yeah, terrifying but possible!

I really enjoyed Patsy and Wyatt! They're tied together by all that's happening, and by what they felt for each other! Of course, things couldn't be that simple, but I enjoyed that the did work things out! Because yeah, they're facing a pretty big bad guy, and good guys usually work better when they work with others, especially their love interests!

The way that they fought back, in both books, was really great! They have very little to lose, but that little is the most important stuff. And that the supposedly good guys aren't so good, well, that sucks, but they did what they could!

This series was absolutely fantastic, and I can't wait to read more by Delilah S. Dawson!

Waiting on Wednesday #253, March 16th

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating!

Tragedy Girl by Christine Hurley Deriso
Expected Publication: March 8th, 2016
From Goodreads:
Of course Anne would be drawn to Blake. He’s good looking, he’s friendly, and they both bring sob stories to the table: her parents died in a car wreck, his girlfriend, Cara, drowned. Of course Blake would understand what she’s gone through. And of course they can help each other work through the pain. It’s like it was meant to be.

But just as Anne starts to feel she’s finally found something good in all the tragedy, she can’t ignore signs that something’s off. Her friends rarely let her be alone with Blake. Even those closest to Blake seem uneasy around him. And then there are the rumors about the death of Cara, whose body was never recovered. Rumors that suggest Blake’s pain is hiding something darker than Anne can even begin to comprehend . . .
Dreamology by Lucy Keating
Expected Publication: March 12th, 2016
From Goodreads:
For as long as Alice can remember, she has dreamed of Max. Together they have traveled the world and fallen deliriously, hopelessly in love. Max is the boy of her dreams—and only her dreams. Because he doesn’t exist.

But when Alice walks into class on her first day at a new school, there he is. It turns out, though, that Real Max is nothing like Dream Max, and getting to know each other in reality isn’t as perfect as Alice always hoped.

When their dreams start to bleed dangerously into their waking hours, the pair realize that they might have to put an end to a lifetime of dreaming about each other. But when you fall in love in your dreams, can reality ever be enough?

After faking her own death to escape her term as an indentured assassin for Valor Savings Bank, Patsy is on the run with her boyfriend, Wyatt. All she wants to do is go home, but that’s never going to happen—not as long as Valor’s out to get her and the people she loves.

Left with no good choices, Patsy’s only option is to meet with a mysterious group that calls itself the Citizens for Freedom.

Led by the charismatic Leon Crane, the CFF seem like just what Patsy has been looking for. Leon promises that if she joins, she’ll finally get revenge on Valor for everything they’ve done to her—and for everything they’ve made her do.

But Patsy knows the CFF has a few secrets of their own. One thing is certain: they’ll do absolutely anything to complete their mission, no matter who’s standing in their way. Even if it’s Patsy herself.

These books! I want to read them so much, they look so great! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Random Reads #195, August 20th

Random Reads is a monthly meme (that I'm going to do weekly) hosted by I'm Loving Books to read some books that have been on our TBR piles for a long time. Using Random.org, I got 4401 which turned out to be Servants of the Storm by Delilah S. Dawson! It's been on my TBR pile since January 1st 2014, and I added it because it sounded so fantastic! Happy reading!
