Arise: Review

From Goodreads:
With power comes the responsibility to accept its consequences.

After the betrayal of those closest to her, Eviana Dumahl struggles to cope with her new reality. Kidnapped, broken, and confused, she is forced to engage in a war that will alter merfolk politics forever. With her estranged father leading the charge, Eviana has no choice but to stand by his side. Her continued existence hinges on the acceptance of the power growing inside her, even when that means embracing the family’s dark lineage.

Kain Matthew will sacrifice the world for Eviana. And he is not alone. As time runs out, her friends fight to save her life and theirs. An unlikely alliance gives them the edge they need to take a stand, although it keeps Eviana's heart trapped in the past. A new discovery explains some of her previous mistakes, but it may not be enough to stop her father's plans. Merfolk, selkies, and water sprites work together to save their kind, only in this final battle, not everyone will survive.

In the striking series conclusion, Eviana will learn the true meaning of power, sacrifice, and love.

My Review:
yeah, this was such a great and fantastic book! I loved it so much, it was the perfect ending to this series, so much happens, and I just loved reading it! I've enjoyed this series so much, and this book, well, yeah, again, perfect ending!

I was planning on reading this book later then I did, to read it closer to when this review was posting. But after the ending of Betrayal, well, man, I just had to read this book! And yeah, that need was just all consuming! Which just speaks to how great this series, these books, are!

This is the book where we get the answers. What's going on, who's truly behind everything, and yeah, Eviana is held captive by the bad guys, which means that we get to see a different side of the characters, which was really great!

The ending was just perfect. There were losses, which kinda has to happen, unless it's Breaking Dawn, and that hardly ever happens! But there was also the triumph of winning the battle, winning the war, and the right side having done so. So that was really great!

I just enjoyed this book, this series so much! Can't wait to read more books by Amber Garr!

Betrayal: Review

From Goodreads:
Life as a mermaid can be suffocating.

Eviana Dumahl has returned home as a clan leader, an orphan, and a heartbroken teenage girl. Her parents are dead and her boyfriend, Brendan, has decided that he needs some time away. While battling her inner turmoil, Eviana is forced into the war that Lucian Sutherland has incited amongst her own kind. With the help of Kain, her friend and formally betrothed, the two work together to prove that they deserve their birthrights as young merfolk leaders.

When the Council requests a demonstration of Eviana's mermaid powers, she finds herself with an opportunity to win back Brendan's heart. But her orders to train with a repulsive merman and the presence of an attractive new suitor challenges Eviana to embrace her leadership and resist temptation. Lucian is after her, and no one seems to understand why. Loyalties are tested as the casualties increase, showing Eviana that sometimes it is impossible to delineate between friends and enemies.

My Review:
So yeah, I enjoyed the first book so much, so I was really lucky to be a part of the tour for this book, now! And I enjoyed this book a ton! It was really great! It wasn't as good for me as Promises was for me. Which is too bad, because that book was just really awesome and the world can't have too many awesome books!

So it was really awesome to be in this world again, with these characters. And with everything that happened in Promises, well, yeah, things were definitely happening in this book! And most definitely were affected by what had happened! It was really great to watch things change and grow!

So between Brendan, Kain, and Lucian, two of who are on her side, and the other, very obviously leading the other side, well, she has her hands full with guys. Brendan, gone after Promises, Kain, there and supporting her, and Lucian, keeping the war going, and having tempers rising!

So that ending, was just fantastic! Loved that so much, and yeah, it's making me want to read Arise now, vs. closer to when my review post is supposed to go up. Because man, that was a really great ending, and I can't wait to see where things are going to go from there!

Really fantastic book, so awesome to read it in this review tour! And I need more!

The “Phantom” was a musical phenomenon that Rebecca had always found enchanting. She had no idea that her life was about to mirror the play that was her obsession. When her high school drama club chooses “Phantom” as their annual production, Rebecca finds herself in the middle of an unlikely love triangle and the target of a sadistic stalker who uses the lines from the play as their calling card.

Rebecca lands the lead role of Christine, the opera diva, and like her character, she is torn between her two co-stars—Tom the surfer and basketball star who plays the lovable hero, and Justyn, the strangely appealing Goth who is more than realistic in the role of the tortured artist.

Almost immediately after casting, strange things start to happen both on and off the stage. Curtains fall. Mirrors are shattered. People are hurt in true phantom style. They all seem like accidents until Rebecca receives notes and phone calls that hint at something more sinister. Is Justyn bringing to life the twisted character of the phantom? Or in real life are the roles of the hero and the villain reversed? Rebecca doesn’t know who to trust, but she knows she’s running out of time as she gets closer and closer to opening night. Only when the mask is stripped away, will the twenty first century phantom finally be revealed.

Promises: Review

From Goodreads:
Sometimes following your heart can end up destroying the ones you love.

When seventeen-year-old Eviana Dumahl is faced with the responsibility of an arranged marriage and clan leadership, she is forced to choose between the life required of a mermaid and one of a teenage girl simply infatuated with the wrong guy. Kain, her devoted fiancé would make a wonderful husband except that she’s been in love with Brendan, a shape-shifting selkie, ever since they were kids. Choosing to abandon her family, her clan, and her life with Kain will have dire consequences far beyond anything she could have imagined.

A war is brewing amongst the clans and Eviana unwittingly becomes a pawn in the intricate schemes of a twisted mastermind. With Brendan’s life on the line, she has no choice but to involve those who she once considered friends. Amidst encountering senseless tragedies and immense loss, Eviana discovers that she is more valuable as a clan leader than anyone ever suspected. Her survival is not only dependent upon the loyalty of her friends, but also on her acceptance of a life that she had so adamantly tried to escape.

My Review:
Promises has excellent world-building, and really great characters! I really enjoyed reading about Eviana, and Kain, and Brendan, they were different, besides the fact that 2 of them were Syrenka and one was a Selkie. The romantic conflict, and the conflict because of the romances, and then how it ended in at the end of this book, at least, well, man, does talented authors like Amber Garr love to torment us!

The world in this book, of Syrenka, or mermaids, has clans and rules and laws that while make sense, like the mating laws, aren't so practical in their use, like here, with Eviana being in love with Brendan, but being promised to marry Kain. And it's a world that is really easy to be sucked into, that you have to read more and more of it! Which is just half the fun of reading, reading a book that encourages you to take your time and read it.

I really enjoyed the romance in this book, the conflict of being torn between responsibility and love, and that Eviana genuinely cared for Kain, which just made it harder, but she had her course,  made her decision that she wanted to be with Brendan, and yeah, I just loved that! Can't wait to read the next book to see what's going to happen there!

This was a really excellent book, so I hope you guys check it out, because yeah, it's great!

And she is able to practice it proudly and happily out in the open with only the crows as her companions. Mab will do anything to keep the ancient practice alive and guard its secrets. But one morning while she is working out a particularly tricky spell she encounters Will, a local boy who is trying to exorcise some mundane personal demons. He experiences Mab's magic in a way his mind cannot comprehend and is all too happy to end their chance meeting. But secrets that were kept from Mab by the earlier generations of blood magicians have come home to roost. And she and Will are drawn back together, time again by this dangerous force looking to break free from the earth and reclaim its own dark power.

A terrifying stream of monstrous creatures has begun to emerge from the secret depths of the earth, terrorizing all of Areya’s native inhabitants. From the tiny, wise drevalyankas to the bellicose cave-dwelling gnomes to the devious kikimoras who gather roots and herbs in the marsh, everyone is in danger.

Rose Zarelli, self-proclaimed word geek and angry girl, has some confessions to make…1. I'm livid all the time. Why? My dad died. My mom barely talks. My brother abandoned us. I think I'm allowed to be irate, don't you?

2. I make people furious regularly. Want an example? I kissed Jamie Forta, a badass guy who might be dating a cheerleader. She is now enraged and out for blood. Mine.

3. High school might as well be Mars. My best friend has been replaced by an alien, and I see red all the time. (Mars is red and "seeing red" means being angry—get it?)

Here are some other vocab words that describe my life: Inadequate. Insufferable. Intolerable.

(Don't know what they mean? Look them up yourself.)

(Sorry. That was rude.)
