Week 48 Review: Seven All Alone

From Goodreads:
From the author of The Assassin Game and Have You Seen My Sister? comes another gripping thriller that follows seven teens stranded together on a trip in the mountains, cut off from civilization, and hunted by an unknown killer who wants them dead.

Maggie Atkins will never forget what happened in that cave ten years ago when she and six other elementary school kids were kidnapped by their bus driver and kept captive. She will never forget that her friends left her alone to escape, or the image of her kidnapper falling to his death, but she has done her best to put the ordeal behind her and move on.

Her past catches up with her when she's forced to go on a school trip to the mountains with the very same people who abandoned her, and only a stone's throw away from the scene of her kidnapping. She's determined to suck it up and get through it though since it's only one night of her life. But then a brutal storm changes everything and separates her group from their chaperone. With no phones and a limited food supply, the group strategizes how they can survive the elements and make it back to safety.

Then they realize there is someone else on the mountain. Someone who knows what really happened all those years ago. Someone who wants them dead and is willing to take them out one by one. Maggie thought she'd already survived the worst thing she would ever go through—she was wrong.

The twins haven’t spoken in six months, but Charlie is all Nora has left. Completely against her cautious nature, Nora steals the file and flees, racing to her brother’s house. She begs him to trust her that his death is imminent, and they hit the road (with his parrot, Jessica, who has plenty to say) in an attempt to evade both death and S.C.Y.T.H.E., whose sole mission of collecting souls has been disrupted by Charlie’s continued existence.

Friends and Liars by Kit Frick
Expected Publication: December 2nd, 2025
From Goodreads:
From “edge-of-your-seat suspense” (Booklist) author Kit Frick comes an insidious thriller about four estranged friends trapped in a powerful family’s deadly games at a luxe estate in the Italian countryside.

It’s been five years since heiress Clare Monroe tragically died on New Year’s Eve at her family’s opulent Italian palazzo. Since that time, her college friends have harbored a dark secret—their lies and betrayals led to Clare’s untimely death.

What happened that fateful night was a horrible accident, but Luca, Harper, Sirina, and David are guilty, nonetheless. And their desperate decision to conceal the truth destroyed their once-close bond.

Now, the estranged friends are each the recipient of an invitation from the Monroes to return to the lakeside palazzo for a long-overdue memorial for Clare. Accepting the Monroes’ invitation means playing with fire, but they can hardly refuse.

Luca, Harper, Sirina, and David have barely settled into their idyllic accommodations on Lake Como before someone at the memorial party begins targeting them. Haunted by little “gifts” left in their rooms, taunting notes, and the unshakable sense of being watched, it soon becomes clear that someone on the guest list knows the whole truth about the night Clare died—and the secrets her friends have been keeping. Nothing is as it seems at the palazzo on the lake, and under their tormentor’s vengeful gaze, their secrets—and their lives—are in danger.

December starts off with some really amazing books, I need to read them, and I need them to be out so I can do so! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Week 52 Review: The Assassin Game

From Goodreads:
T.A.G. You're It...

"It is 4 a.m. when they come for me. I am already awake, strung out on the fear that they will come, and fear that they won't. When I finally hear the click of the latch on the dormitory door, I have only a second to brace myself before-"

At Cate's isolated boarding school Killer is more than a game-it's an elite secret society. Members must avoid being "killed" during a series of thrilling pranks-and only the Game Master knows who the "killer" is. When Cate's finally invited to join The Guild of Assassins, she knows it's her ticket to finally feeling like she belongs.

But when the game becomes all too real, the school threatens to shut it down. Cate will do anything to keep playing and save The Guild. But can she find the real assassin-before she's the next target?

My Review:
I had such a fantastic time reading this book! I've really enjoyed her zombie series, but I didn't know about this one, but once I did, and I connected that they were written by the same person, yeah, I was so excited to read this book, and I loved it!

This set up of a private school, on a remote island, with a not-so-secret society that plays a murder game? Yeah, it was such an interesting concept, and when the murders become real, well, I had to know who was behind it all!

I really enjoyed reading Cate's story, she's not one of the popular girls, she has 2 friends, but being a part of Killers, it's something that she really wanted. It's just too bad that the year that she joins, is when all of this goes down.

The intrigue level was high, wondering who was actually killing these people instead of pretending. I really enjoyed the tension, and watching the clues get gathered. Plus the ending came together really well, and I'm pleased with where we left these characters.

This was a fantastic read and I can't wait to read more by Kirsty McKay!

Random Reads #628, November 30th

Random Reads is a monthly meme (that I'm going to do weekly) hosted by I'm Loving Books to read some books that have been on our TBR piles for a long time. Using Random.org, I got 6020 which turned out to be The Assassin Game by Kirsty McKay! It's been on my TBR pile since July 20th, 2016, and I added it because I love her writing and it sounded really great! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Book Blogger Hop #308, September 1st

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer from Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer's permission, Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the meme on February 15, 2013. Check out the hop here!

Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop's purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

The Question of the week is: Please suggest a book for Billy's 42nd birthday. (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

Undead by Kirsty McKay? A YA horror, with zombies, so maybe that might sound good? I had a great time reading it, there was a great sense of humour!

OK, so I got 53 posts in 7 days, it was a decent week, I read books that I was really excited for, and I can't wait for next week! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read The Brothers Hawthorne and Tie Me Knot.

Four brothers. Two missions. One explosive read. Jennifer Lynn Barnes returns to the world of her #1 bestselling Inheritance Games trilogy, and the stakes have never been higher.

Grayson Hawthorne was raised as the heir apparent to his billionaire grandfather, taught from the cradle to put family first. Now the great Tobias Hawthorne is dead and his family disinherited, but some lessons linger. When Grayson’s half-sisters find themselves in trouble, he swoops in to do what he does best: take care of the problem—efficiently, effectively, mercilessly. And without getting bogged down in emotional entanglements.

Jameson Hawthorne is a risk-taker, a sensation-seeker, a player of games. When his mysterious father appears and asks for a favor, Jameson can’t resist the challenge. Now he must infiltrate London’s most exclusive underground gambling club, which caters to the rich, the powerful, and the aristocratic, and win an impossible game of greatest stakes. Luckily, Jameson Hawthorne lives for impossible.

Drawn into twisted games on opposite sides of the globe, Grayson and Jameson—with the help of their brothers and the girl who inherited their grandfather’s fortune—must dig deep to decide who they want to be and what each of them will sacrifice to win.
So far, while working at a ghost matchmaking agency, the past week has gone 1) a murdered ghost bride who is very very pissed off (don’t blame her, I’d be pissed off too) 2) adopted by chinese hellhounds (I THOUGHT THEY WERE DOGS, OKAY) 3) wake up magically soul-bonded to the sexy demon slayer Zhen (While I agree he’s -expansive hand waving- HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!) I do not need a fourth incident to make my life more interesting, please and thank you. Spoiler I get one anyway.

Magically bonded, insta husband just add ghost, speed marriage?, ghost matchmaking, ghosts deserve love too, Kris might have accidentally been feeding Chinese hellhounds, oops?, chosen family, Kris and Zhen actually communicate, buying hardcovers is a marriage proposal, just ask Kris, demon slayer on crutches can still fight, as the bad guys find out, whole

Week 33 Review: Have You Seen My Sister?

From Goodreads:
Gaia Gill is the last person in the world anyone would expect to go missing. Beautiful, athletic, and recently accepted to a prestigious college, she has everything to look forward to—but the night of her going-away party at the Moon Mountain ski resort, she disappears.

Gaia's younger sister Esme is supposed to be flying back to England with her family after the party, but she can't leave with Gaia missing—especially because nobody remembers Gaia leaving the party. Or if they do, they're not saying. Everyone at the lodge has their own secrets: the little rich girl, the ex-boyfriend, the ski instructor, the failed reality star.

Esme's out of her depth searching the dark, dangerous forests and icy slopes of Moon Mountain, until she teams up with a local boy who promises to help her. The clock is ticking, and it's down to Esme to piece the clues together and work out who—if anybody—is telling the truth.

My Review:
This was a really fantastic read! I was really interesting in reading it, because I've only read her zombie series, so I was interesting to see what was going to happen in this one, where the vibes might be the same, but it was more a mystery then a horror.

First off, I have to say, that cover is so creepy and cool! The ski lift going off in the distance, with the bloody text of the title layered on top, with the snow coming down? It's visually something that catches the eye, to kudos to those that created it!

Watching as Esme look for her sister, trying to find clues to where she is, I had to watch! That people really didn't care that Gaia was missing was pretty horrible, but I really enjoyed her investigation! She felt guilty that she didn't know what happened to Gaia at the party, and I was rooting for her!

Oh, but the direction that it went to was fantastic! When we found out what had happened, oh, yeah, it made sense with what had been found out, but it was pretty shocking. I had such a great time reading it, and I loved where we left these characters!

This was a fantastic read, and I can't wait to read more by Kirsty McKay!

Monthly ARC's Update 46

So I read my next book for Monthly ARC's and it was Have You Seen My Sister by Kirsty McKay from the September list, and Hellfinder by Paula Stokes from the August list.

Here's the link to this month's post with my journey.

How it Works:
This is my monthly ARC accountability challenge, to list out the books that I have as ARC's that are being published in the coming month, rounding them up at the start of the month, and seeing how well I did at the end, as well as rounding up the next month's books.
