Week 19 Reviews: Magic Bleeds, Magic Dreams, Magic Slays, Magic Tests, Magic Gifts, Gunmetal Magic, An Ill-Advised Rescue Part 1, An Ill-Advised Rescue Part 2, Magic Rises, Magic Steals, Magic Breaks

From Goodreads:
Atlanta would be a nice place to live, if it weren't for the magic. When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose.

Kate Daniels works for the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, officially as a liaison with the mercenary guild. Unofficially, she cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to handle - especially if they involve Atlanta's shapeshifting community. When she's called in to investigate a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar on the border between the territories of the shapeshifters and the necromancers, Kate quickly discovers that there's a new player in town. One who's been around for thousands of years - and who rode to war at the side of Kate's father. This foe may be too much even for Kate and Curran, the Beast Lord, to handle. Because this time Kate will be taking on family.

From Goodreads:
From New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews comes a tale of darkness, desire, and werecats.

Alpha Pack leader Jim Shrapshire has always been the strong, silent type. But something has come over him--a magic force currently residing in one of the Pack's headquarters. Were-tigress Dali Harimau has always wished she could get Jim's attention--but now he needs her help.

Stricken with a magic-sickness, Jim needs Dali's flair for magic. And to save him, she must challenge a powerful, dark being to a battle of wits.

From Goodreads:
In this fifth entry in Ilona Andrews's New York Times bestselling Kate Daniels series, Kate finds herself in the midst of a deadly war between magic and technology. Plagued by a war between magic and technology, Atlanta has never been so deadly. Good thing Kate Daniels is on the job. Kate Daniels may have quit the Order of Merciful Aid, but she's still knee-deep in paranormal problems. Or she would be if she could get someone to hire her. Starting her own business has been more challenging than she thought it would be now that the Order is disparaging her good name, and many potential clients are afraid of getting on the bad side of the Beast Lord, who just happens to be Kate's mate. So when Atlanta's premier Master of the Dead calls to ask for help with a vampire on the loose, Kate leaps at the chance of some paying work. Turns out this is not an isolated incident, and Kate needs to get to the bottom of it fast, or the city and everyone dear to her might pay the ultimate price.

From Goodreads:
Teenage Julie is sent to a school for exceptional children by her guardian, Kate Daniels.

The events of Magic Tests take place after Magic Slays. The story is told from Julie's point of view.

From Goodreads:
Dinner date after a hard workday should be heavenly. Of course, dates between the Beast Lord and Kate Daniels don't always go as planned. Undead run amok, heads are chopped off, lawyers are deployed with extreme prejudice, and drunk vikings call people out.

From Goodreads:
After eviction from the Knights of Merciful Aid, Andrea is a wreck. She starts work for best pal PI Kate Daniels. Shapeshifters under Raphael Medrano — Clan Bouda male alpha, Andrea's ex-lover — die suddenly at a dig site. With Raphael, she seeks killer in deep dark Atlanta. Her feelings for him may take a back seat to saving the world…

This is a deleted scene from "Magic Rises" offered for free on the author's website. www.Ilona-Andrews.com *Note, that this whole scene is at the back of Magic Rises, not on the author's website*

From Goodreads:
Mercenary Kate Daniels narrates a surprising trip with her bite-me humor. The pack of her mate Curran, werelion Beast Lord, need rare medicine from Europe to save children who die from stuck shapeshifting. Europe offers them barrels of the drug if they guard a spoiled princess. Knowing the invite is a trap, of course they sail right in.

From Goodreads:
In #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews' novella, Magic Steals, when people start going missing, shapeshifting tigress Dali Harimau and jaguar shifter Jim Shrapshire must uncover the truth about the mysterious creatures responsible.

From Goodreads:
No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there's trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…

As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate's connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.

As Roland's long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she'll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear…

My Review:
Reading these books, just one after the other, not doing anything else that I didn't have to-like watching TV-was just utterly fantastic! I was just absorbed in this world, every word just kept going and going towards something that I wanted to know, but also go on the journey with!

So many great things happen in these books! Well, great for us, not so good for the characters! Like the fact that her mom used her power to make Volon love her, and Volon didn't care about Kate, not really, he just wanted to wound Roland. He knew she wouldn't win. And that sucked. But it's information!

The novellas and short stories (and the one deleted scene!) were really great! All of them but Magic Gifts gave us different perspectives from the other ladies in the world, Andrea, Dali, and Julie. And they were just so great to read about! Loved how everything connected, such a great and wonderful world! So complicated and so readable!

So my suspicion was confirmed, and Roland was her dad! And then it took forever, but we finally met him in Magic Breaks! Which was pretty darned cool, because yeah, he's a really long-lived guy, and he thinks he knows best. He doesn't really see his actions as wrong. So he's a pretty interesting character! But Kate deals pretty well! But I can't wait to see how it's going to be with Curran not being the Beast Lord anymore!

Yes, this series was really fantastic! Reading it was a pleasure, and there's still 3 more books, which is really fantastic! I can't wait for Magic Shifts, and lucky for me, I don't have a long wait!
