"Bono met his wife in high school," Park says.
"So did Jerry Lee Lewis," Eleanor answers.
"I'm not kidding," he says.
"You should be," she says, "we're 16."
"What about Romeo and Juliet?"
"Shallow, confused, then dead."
"I love you," Park says.
"Wherefore art thou," Eleanor answers.
"I'm not kidding," he says.
"You should be."
Set over one school year in 1986, Eleanor & Park is the story of two star-crossed misfits—smart enough to know first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try.
My Review:
This story, man it was so good! I've really only read her Simon Snow series and her adult books. So this one, I wasn't sure what was going to happen with it, because I'm not the biggest fan of contemporary YA. But it was such a great story, and I loved Eleanor & Park!
Eleanor comes from a pretty bad home, her mom remarried this awful dude, which resulted in Eleanor being kicked out of the house for a year. This dude, who is just the worst, treats the whole family horribly, and has this weird obsession with Eleanor.
Park, he's not an outcast, but he's not really in the middle of things, he's just the average high school student, but he's a bit embarrassed by Eleanor. But he quickly becomes pretty obsessed with her in the same way that she is with him, with their shared love of music and graphic novels. I loved their love, but I was worried for the, considering the synopsis.
I am a bit confused about the ending, what those words that Eleanor wrote on that postcard. I did listen to this on audiobook, so I might have missed a few details that would clear up my confusion, but I don't know where those might be without rereading the whole book, which I don't really have time for.
Loved reading this book and I can't catch up with all of Rainbow Rowell's books!
