Week 8 Review: I'll Pretend You're Mine

From Goodreads:
Summer Ali has been making a name for herself in the music industry for years, slowly but surely climbing the charts—but the world doesn't know her stage parents are the ones who molded her entire public persona. Finally eighteen, Summer breaks free of their control and focuses on creating her own path.

Upon running into writer's block, Summer grows eager to take any opportunity to shake things up—even if it means agreeing to a PR stunt with child-actor-turned-playboy, Jules Moradi, famous for his tabloid escapades.

At first, Jules keeps his distance, maintaining professional boundaries. But as time passes, his walls come down, and Summer uncovers who he is beyond his reputation, and it's someone more like her than she ever realized. As the lines blur between fake and real, Summer begins questioning who she is and what she wants—and if her dreams are worth sacrificing her heart.

My Review:
I loved reading this book! I really fell in love with Tashie Bhuiyan's books last year, I believe, the kind of contemporary that gives me FOMO, because I could've missed out of something great if I hadn't have picked up her books, even though contemporaries typically aren't my thing, Tashie Bhuiyan has a way of creating stories that I love, and this one was another to add to the list!

One thing that I loved, was all the connections to her previous books, however small it was. The big one was that Jules' movie is directed by Mina (and Emmitt has a brief cameo.) A smaller one was that Summer's friend was an opening act for Third Eye.

I think all of Tashie Bhuiyan books, at least to this point, have featured pretty awful parents, and parental control. What was interesting about this one, was that Summer has mainly gotten away from that, her parents are no longer her managers. But because of her younger sisters, they still have that foothold in her life. And the anxiety of being the one in control, well, if things go wrong, it's because of her choices, and that's a hard position to be in.

Watching as these two fake dated, with real feelings started to pop up, not to mention that they actually started to become friends, yeah, I loved it! There's something so magical, yet so real, that come from her stories, and I felt that again with this book! I think I'll always pick up a Tashie Bhiyan book!

Loved reading this book and I can't wait to read more by Tashie Bhiyan!
