My Review:
Oh, I enjoyed this book a lot! This world where the girls of this town have these abilities was so fascinating to me! And yeah, this was a really great book about the friendship between these girls, even if it gets strained for a while there!

Rome has has it hard. She has a single mother, lives in a trailer, and pays half the rent, the last fact she keeps secret from her friends. So the need to find the dowry chest is pretty high for her. Her search was so great to read!

Of course there were other things going on, like her relationship with Jett, as well as Emmeline's missing diary. I guessed what had happened there, like, immediately I thought danger danger, at that point. But Rome did figure it out! 

This book isn't super action packed, but again, it's about these girls and their friendship! I also enjoyed some of the side things, like her mom and Red, that was a lot of fun to read! And that ending, yeah, that was so satisfying!

This book was a fantastic read and I enjoyed it so much!

My first review of Watcher in the Woods
My Review:
Wow, I just loved reading these books! This series has been so fantastic, and I think I read somewhere that the series was extended to 6 or 7 books, which is really great, because it can't just end here! We need more of these wonderful characters!

I had to reread Watcher in the Woods, because we get to meet April, and her dynamics with Casey. So yeah, I really enjoyed the mystery, and knowing where it was going, seeing the little clues and hints that lead to that ending! So wonderful!

Alone in the Wild was really great, we got to explore more, like we met people from the Second Settlement. And there were so many developments that were outside of the main mystery! That was so fantastic! From hostiles to relationships, it was just so great!

And yeah, the main mystery, with a dead woman and the baby, well, it brought up issues for Casey, from her attack. I really enjoyed watching her and Dalton as a couple deal with this situation along with all the other situations that they have to juggle. It's just such great reading!

I loved reading these books, and I really hope that I'm right that we're getting more, because I need more!

Week 40 Review: Problem Child

My Review:
Man, I really enjoyed this book! I loved reading the first book, and while I was doing that, I just so happened to see a review of this book mentioning that it was on NetGalley, so I just had to request it, and I was approved, and then I just had to read it! So the timing worked out very well for me!

This book is different from the first. Obviously, because Jane got her revenge. But she was pretty single minded about that, whereas in this book, the search for her niece, it's not as pressing, plus she's juggling work and her home life. It's different, but still so enjoyable!

We got to go back to Jane's hometown, to see what she grew up around, and some stories from her childhood made me cringe, because nobody should have to live like that. And given that it was how she was raised as well as her genes that shaped her to be a sociopath, well, kinda proves my point.

I really enjoyed her investigation, and her commentary on how society views and treats women and girls. And her interactions with Kayla were so interesting, because they are pretty similar. And that ending! I heard that there's going to be a 3rd book, and if there is, I'm thrilled, because I need more!

Loved this book so much, and if we get more, I can't wait to read it!

Week 40 Review: Girl Against the Universe

My Review:
This book was a lot of fun to read! I mean, she does think that she causes bad things to happen around her, leaving her basically unscathed. All the experiences that lead her to believe that, well, those weren't good ones, but she's dealing with them and that's a good thing!

I really enjoyed watching Maguire work on her fears, taking one task one at a time, so she can fly over to Ireland and take a moment for her lost family. That was important, and she strived for her goal and that was so excellent!

Her relationship with Jordy was pretty hilarious, because he's kinda semi-famous, at least in the tennis world, and she didn't know who he was. And then there was the fear that her luck would hurt him, but again, this is about her facing, conquering, her fears! Oh, and the fact that he was in therapy as well added another layer, since he had his own problems to work out!

As with all things dealing with the brain, Maguire isn't healed. She'll have good days and bad days, but after all the tasks that she completed, she's in a better spot than she was in the beginning, and yeah, I really enjoyed reading about her going on that journey!

Really enjoyed this book, it was a awesome book!

Week 40 Review: The Athena Protocol

My Review:
Oh, I really enjoyed this book! I loved her spy antics and her investigation into the bad guys! It all came together so well, and was so great to read! There's some explosive times, and some dealings with the dark side of things. So great to read!

Jessie did kill the one dude on a mission, which is why she was kicked out of the group. I can understand why she did it, he was taunting her and what he was saying was scary, but I would like to think that he was wrong. And that it would've been worse for him to go to prison than to be killed now, but now he couldn't because he's dead. Yeah. Plus there's the whole thing where they're vigilantes, basically, and going too far kinda broke their cover and all!

This book dealt with a few things, from her relationship with her mom (strained to say the least, since her mom was one of the ones to decide to kick her out of Athena as well as other reasons), to dealing with the powerful who were so because they were criminals. It was dark and enticing to read!

Wow, I really enjoyed that ending! Jessie was pretty bad ass and snarky. Maybe aggravating the bad guys isn't always a good idea, but it worked out in the end! A little sad that it turned out that way, but there's exciting possibilities in the future!

This book was really fantastic, and I enjoyed it so much!

My Review:
This book was really fantastic! I enjoyed Ava's investigation into the girl in the woods, and at the same time, dealing with the trauma of what happened to her that one summer. It was a really fantastic and moving read! Oh, and well, dark, of course!

Honestly, her relationship with her best friend felt a bit manipulative on the side of the friend. Ava comments a bit on it, but pretty much all of their interactions in this book raised a red flag for me. We find out why, but still. Not cool, girl!

Ava is a pretty interesting character. She did have a horrific experience when she was young, and bears the scars from it. She also lies, though finds ways to soften those lies if they were ever found out. I enjoyed her romantic side plot, it was nice and sweet and she totally deserved it!

Honestly, her decision made sense, even if I didn't totally agree with it. She's not at all equipped to deal with it all, but she does it anyways, which was really great to read, girls sticking up for girls! But the ending felt a little bit handed to us, how they found the bad guy. But it wasn't really about the mystery, it was about the journey.

Loved reading this book, it was just so amazing!

Week 40 Review: Be Not Far From Me

My Review:
This book was such a fantastic and intense read! I enjoyed it so much, Mindy McGinnis is a fantastic author! Besides her first two books, she's written stand alones, and while I would love to revisit some of her earlier characters, I enjoy meeting her newer ones!

There was a point, about a third in, where I felt physically faint. It's only happened once before for me, where the pain that I imagine someone else feeling (the first time it was a film about the last royal Russian family with the boy with the blood thing) and I fainted the first time. I had to actually put this book down and breathe a few times, just so it wouldn't happen again. That's how much this book affected me. Just one word, if you're like me. Pus.

This book is an excellent read about survival. The whole drunken rage bit, well, it doesn't lead to very good decisions, because like the synopsis says, she only has the clothes on her back, plus the bad fall caused injuries that got infected. Not easy! And not a good place to be in, and I enjoyed how smart and tough she was!

This book is pretty short, and it's not action packed, per say, but full of decisions made on how to survive, how to keep going. And that she's by herself the whole time, so there's no real outside conflict besides with her surrounds and the wild animals. Yeah, it was amazing!

This book was so fantastic and such a great read! Loved it!

Week 40 Review: Autoboyagraphy

My Review:
Wow, this book was so fantastic! It took me longer to read than I expected from a Christina Lauren book, but it dealt with a relationship between a Mormon boy, and a non-religious bisexual boy. Kinda a meaty topic there!

It's kinda funny, that this book has Tanner writing the story of their relationship. This book. So it's kinda meta in a way, which I enjoyed. And that book is kinda a big deal to the both of them, when at first Tanner's writing it, and Sebastian is helping. And then later when it's the story of the two of them.

This book dealt with the clear as mud standards of the Mormon church regarding same sex relationships. I think what it worked out to was that they're grudgingly accepting of the feelings, but they won't allow acting on said feelings.

Tanner was in an interesting place. His father is basically a non-practicing Jew, and his mom was Mormon-until they kicked her sister out. So he has that in his life, someone who had a negative experience with the church while he's having a relationship with a boy from within. So those were some interesting dynamics!

I really enjoyed how this book was told. Mostly the book was told from Tanner's perspective in first. But near the end, we started to switch between Tanner and Sebastian in third, before the epilogue going back to Tanner in first. That was so fantastic!

This book was really fantastic and I enjoyed reading it so much!

Week 40 Review: Before Now

My Review:
This book was a pretty great read. It's a bit of a downer, honestly, told chronologically going backwards. So we know what happened, we just didn't know why, but we learned. And yeah, it's just kinda sad, that we can't change what happened.

The ending had a lot happening in a short period of time. Of course the beginning was slower, because it needed to set up for what was going to happen. The ending being in the front of the book, and the beginning at the back.

This is the story of Atty and Cole, of their relationship, and how everything fell apart. We got to trace their steps back, from the trip to California, to why they left, to some issues popping up, to them falling in love, to their first meeting. And in a way, that gave me hope, that they had that bright shiny beginning, and they were there, now. But at the same time, it meant that the ending wouldn't change, wouldn't get any better, and that was a bit sad.

I'm torn. I think that they probably wouldn't have been listening to. But I wish that they had tried. Instead they ran away, which made things worse. It wasn't their faults, but they used their bad hand poorly. Again with the sadness that it worked out that way!

I enjoyed this book, but it's not one that I'd read again anytime soon.

24 Hour Reading Challenge 1st October Sign Up

So I'm going to do my first reading challenge for October, which is less than a week from my last one, whoo! And it's going to be tomorrow, October 2nd, starting at 2, and since I have work on the 3rd, and because I need around 10 hours of sleep each night, which really cuts into my reading, I'm going to end on October 3rd at 7 PM instead of at 2. So maybe I can actually read more than 6 books in my time!

Same goal as always, between 6 to 8 books. And the books that I want to read are Clique Bait, Spellhacker, The Gilded Wolves, The Wicked Deep, Crier's War, Now Entering Addamsville, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, The Deepest Roots, Dare You to Lie, The Gallery of Unfinished Girls, Bombshell, This Darkness Mine, Gem & Dixie, Verify, The Rest Falls Away, 99 Days.

Again some overlap, but I can't wait to try and read all these books! What about you guys? Happy reading!
