Week 40 Review: Girl Against the Universe

From Goodreads:
From the author of The Art of Lainey and Liars, Inc. comes a fresh, contemporary story about one girl's tragic past and a boy who convinces her that maybe her luck is about to change. Perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen or Jenny Han.

Maguire knows she's bad luck. No matter how many charms she buys off the internet or good luck rituals she performs each morning, horrible things happen when Maguire is around. Like that time her brother, father, and uncle were all killed in a car crash—and Maguire walked away with barely a scratch. But then on her way out of her therapist's office, she meets Jordy, an aspiring tennis star, who wants to help Maguire break her unlucky streak. Maguire knows that the best thing she can do for Jordy is to stay away, but staying away may be harder than she thought.

My Review:
This book was a lot of fun to read! I mean, she does think that she causes bad things to happen around her, leaving her basically unscathed. All the experiences that lead her to believe that, well, those weren't good ones, but she's dealing with them and that's a good thing!

I really enjoyed watching Maguire work on her fears, taking one task one at a time, so she can fly over to Ireland and take a moment for her lost family. That was important, and she strived for her goal and that was so excellent!

Her relationship with Jordy was pretty hilarious, because he's kinda semi-famous, at least in the tennis world, and she didn't know who he was. And then there was the fear that her luck would hurt him, but again, this is about her facing, conquering, her fears! Oh, and the fact that he was in therapy as well added another layer, since he had his own problems to work out!

As with all things dealing with the brain, Maguire isn't healed. She'll have good days and bad days, but after all the tasks that she completed, she's in a better spot than she was in the beginning, and yeah, I really enjoyed reading about her going on that journey!

Really enjoyed this book, it was a awesome book!
