Week 18 Review: The Serpent & the Wings of Night

From Goodreads:
For humans and vampires, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always–always–guard your heart.

The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.

But winning won't be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival.

Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father's crown…and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.

But there's no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home.

In a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love, Raihn may understand her more than anyone, but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall.

The Serpent and the Wings of Night is the first book in the Crowns of Nyaxia series, a heart-wrenching romance full of dark magic and bloodthirsty intrigue.

My Review:
Oh, I understand now why this series and this author have gotten all the hype recently. It's well deserved, this is such an addicting romantasy, and I couldn't get enough, I had to spend more time with these characters, and boy, was it a fantastic story!

Pretty much immediately, I was sucked into this story, I mean, it has everything, a badass female, a hero with secrets, and a competition. Getting to know Oraya and Raihn, and the world with the different houses and politics, it was so fantastic to read!

Oraya is in an interesting position. That she's the adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, very much weaker and prey for those around her, but that Vincent has trained her to be a fighter, a survivor in a world trying to kill her. But you know, it basically taught her to hate her humanity, which isn't the best thing, and really isolated her, since there weren't very many humans around, and most vampires didn't have the self-control not to consume her blood. And given what is revealed at the end, makes it even more complicated.

That ending though? That was pretty explosive, and I need to know what's going to happen next! What with him making her kill him, and what she used her wish on-and what that brought about? Yeah, I need to know the consequences of all that!

Loved reading this book and I can't wait to continue on with the series!
