Marek, a wounded fae soldier, has been in love with Princess Adira, his childhood friend, for years. Intent on letting her become the queen she was always meant to be, he finds employment in the Court of Midnight, away from the woman who holds his heart… until she sends for him, begging for his help in relocating her kidnapped sisters.
As Marek works alongside Adira to solve the mystery of the missing princesses, they uncover a dark fae enchantment that's taken hold of the entire castle. And as the truth unravels, so do Marek's bottled-up feelings for Adira. But the closer they get to finding the princesses, the darker their path becomes. Will Marek and Adira uncover the threat that has taken hold of the kingdom? Or will they become lost, just like the princesses?
Crown of Twelve is a Twelve Dancing Princesses retelling with a twist, full of dark fae magic, deadly court schemes, and steamy romance. This novella is a prequel story to the Crowns of the Fae series.
My Review:
I really enjoyed picking up this book! I got the 1st full length book in the series as an ARC, so I had to pick this one up first before I could read that. It was such a delight to read, I really enjoyed getting to know these characters and this world!
I don't think I've actually read the original Twelve Dancing Princesses story. But I've read a few retellings, so I had an idea of what this story would be. I had a great time getting to know Adria and Marek as they dealt with this whole situation.
These two were just so cute to read! I felt so badly that their stations in life were preventing them from their love. Especially since we were in his perspective, and she's the princess, in social status, she's above him. But I was rooting for them!
I know from the synopsis that Prince Fenn is the male lead of Crown of Slumber, which I need to read now, because I need to know what he's story is going to be like! He was a great side character in this one, and I can't wait to get to know him better.
Loved reading this book and I can't wait to continue on with this series!
