Week 10 Reviews: The Unkindest Tide, Hope is Swift

My first review of The Unkindest Tide, Hope is Swift

My Review:
Oh, yeah, I had to read these stories again! I just love Seanan McGuire's writing, and reading about Toby's adventures! And the short stories are always great to read, seeing from side characters who don't see a lot of screen time, it just adds to the world!

The Unkindest Tide rights a wrong that has been a background issue the whole series, we just didn't know until more recently. And having the Roane back now, well, they can see the future. While we aren't quite near the end of this series, well, we're gearing up for it. And having some knowledge to face it is hopefully a good thing!

Between making the Selkies into Roane, and all the politics there, as well as Dianda's brother coming in and causing problems, there's a lot going on in this book. Plus the fact that Gillian is going to be permanently added to the the world of fae. Toby has so much on her plate, and that's not adding the stress of being out surrounded by the ocean, after being turned into a fish and losing her previous life. Yeah.

I feel bad for Raj, as a Prince, he has duties and responsibilities. Ones that he's going to have to take up sooner than he would like. Then there's the whole thing were he can't really be friends with his future subjects, only with people outside that power structure. So that leaves him a bit isolated. I really enjoyed reading this story! 

Loved reading these, and I can't wait for The Killing Frost!

My Review:
I really enjoyed this book! William has been around since book 2, and while Sunny was only introduced in this book, or really, The Darkest Assassin, she really hit the ground running! I enjoyed them together so much, she really pricked his ego, which he needed.

I really enjoyed the fact that we got to see William's background, his origin story, how he got cursed, and how he's connected to Axel. His relationship with this family-Axel and Hades, was pretty great side plot to read!

The main two thrusts of this story were solving his book with the  code, and battling Lucifer. Part of the code breaking is the fact that he's cursed that if he falls in love, well, she'll try to kill him. So there's that going on as well. It was so much fun to read!

I'm wondering if we're going to see Axel and Evelina have a book. Maybe not in this series because Gena Showalter mentioned that while this series is pretty much over since all of the original Lords have had books, well, we're going to be getting more books in this world. This is the first book that didn't have a demon-possessed character as a lead, so that would be a good end spot for this series. And these two would be a great couple! Though there are a few demon possessed individuals who haven't gotten their stories yet...And the story arc of this series with the artifacts hasn't finished yet, either...

Loved this book, it was a fantastic read, and I can't wait to see what we'll get next!

My Review:
Well, I devoured this book! This world is so intricate and details-and it could be linked to her other series, as well, the same way the other two are linked, with the various worlds/dimensions that happened in Kingdom of Ash. Given that's how the powerful beings came to this world, and the most powerful now rule the world. Yeah. I'm kinda guessing that part of this series is going to be taking them and their government down, given that humans are rebelling, and 200 years ago, Hunt was the leader of the army of angels rebelling. Yeah.

This book is huge. Like, the first part, before the friends being murdered bit, and immediately after, it's 80 pages. Then there's a time jump to when the rest of the action takes place. Action wise, it's almost a slow burn, with some quick flare ups here and there.

Secrets. Oh, my, the secrets all these characters had! Some of them, we knew something was up, because we got a hint, but not quite knowing what was going to happen. Some of them just came out of the blue, and yeah, were pretty incredible to read!

I felt bad for Bryce, she lost her friends and her carefree life, and now she has a chance to avenge them, and she's joined by Hunt, who, yeah, they had sparks, but who took some time to see the real her. And oh, yeah, she's investigating her friend's past, and that hurt, because things pointed to Bryce not really knowing Danika as well as she thought. The feels!

That ending, there were so many reveals while being so fast paced, it was a sucker punch after another, and I couldn't stop reading! I mean, we'd been given hints that things were more than they seemed, but I just wasn't expecting that!

Loved reading this book so much, and I can't wait to see where it goes next!

My first review of The Devil's Footprints
My Review:
Loved reading these again! I meant to read The Devil's Footprints last year after having read Marked by Evil the first time, but I didn't, so I decided to do it this year, which actually worked out, so I"m pretty please with it! And the fact that I read it so close to reading her other earlier books, well, there's a crossover character mentioned, from The Dollmaker, and yeah, that little connection made my day!

I had a suspicion reading Marked by Evil the first time. Which was a while after reading The Devil's Footprints for the 2nd time. So I don't think I was influenced by that. But I was right, though the hints were pretty big, so it was easy to catch them.

I remembered who the bad guy was in The Devil's Footprints. I looked for clues, but given the nature of the bad guy, well, I didn't find any. But it was so great to go on this journey, because it was spooky and mysterious and such a fantastic read!

I do wish that the ending had been a bit longer, because there were a few things I wanted to explore, like how the timing all worked out, and how much the bad guy actually did. Because I'm wondering who killed Rachel's dad? And the whole thing about the church and Sarah's parentage, it was almost flat out stated, but never explore afterwards.

This was a fantastic set of stories and I really enjoyed reading them!

My Review:
Wow, I loved reading this book! I mean, I read this series because this book was coming out. I fell in love, and the past 3 weeks or so, I was watching to see if I'd be approved to read this book. The day I was, I downloaded and devoured this book. It was so freaking good!

Being with these characters again was so great! After that final story in Twilight's Dawn, so much changed in that book, and it was heartbreaking, though there were some positives, like Daemon and Surreal. Well, it's not so positive in this book!

So many poor decisions were made by the both of them. I felt bad for Daemon, because while they were both uninformed, Surreal thought she knew what was going on, and was wrong whereas he tried not to do wrong, but didn't know how to do right. It was difficult and hard to read sometimes, these people sometimes acting out of character by this out of character experiences. I just wanted to shake them sometimes!

I wasn't sure how Jillian and Dillon's relationship would play out. In the previous books, characters like Dillon who are a mix of good and bad, they usually lean towards the bad by the end. I was really interested which way he'd go, and watch them go on this journey!

That ended caused quite a shake up. And both of the main plots have consequences that are going to play out, for a long time in both cases, because they're things that can't be taken back. But I can't wait to see more of it play out, because I just love everything about this series so much and I can't have enough!

I can't wait to see where The Queen's Weapon will go! So excited for more!

My Review:
Yes, wow, this book was so fantastic and unexpected! I never knew where it would go, and I just had to keep reading it! This is Veronica Roth's first adult book, and besides the sequels which I need, I can't wait to see where she goes next!

So the whole concept of the YA chosen one, it's a very popular trope. That this book deals with the afterwards, dealing with the fame of something that pretty severely traumatized you, well, it's not a pleasant situation. Sloane is prickly and generally unliked by the general population because of her well deserved and understood by the reader, but not them, attitude.

It's hard to talk about this book without spoiling it. The world is so interesting, and there's some mysteries that we maybe solved in this book, I'll have to read the sequel, I think, to be sure that they've been solved. Of course, there's going to be new ones, and I can't wait!

That ending, yeah, it's changed things, and we saw the tip of the fallout. I can't wait to see the rest, because what happened was a pretty significant event. I also need to know what's going to happen next, because I have no clue!

This book was so fantastic, and I can't wait to see where it goes from here!

My Review:
I loved reading this anthology! I mainly read it for the Patricia Briggs story and the Laurell K. Hamilton story, but this collection of stories about hope, it was pretty uplifting to read, and there were some new to me authors that I'm going to have to check out! All the stories were great, but I'm going to mention the ones that really caught my attention.

I think some of my favourites include the reincarnation one, the weird guy trying to kill the random guy, this space one in prison, and the space one with a child growing up. The second two, I would really love to be series, because these worlds sound incredible, and I want to dive into them and learn more!

Yeah, from Patricia Briggs, we get the story of another one of Asil's dates, and then I went back and read the first one. Poor dude, he doesn't have much luck it seems, but this was an excellent and unexpected story! We skipped the 2nd, though there were references to it. And given that it was a story, well, things happened at this one, as well. I wonder if we'll get a story for the final two, or just the final one, because we need to know who is behind the dates!

The Anita story, we got to take a closer look at what happened when Anita raised the hyper-realistic zombie. I forgot which full length book that event took place in, but yeah, it's coming back to play, and it brings up more questions about what she's able to do, and was a really great read!

Loved this collection, and I can't wait for more from these series!

24 Hour Reading Challenge Update 5 and Wrap Up

I read my next book, The Darkest King, and I'm going to be reading Chain of Gold next! I changed my mind again (poor The Virgin and the Rogue, it's been unchosen twice now by changes I've made!) And it's going to take me longer than 2 1/2 hours to read Chain of Gold, but it's going to be the last book for this reading week, before Saturday starts a new one, so I'm going to to read it and finish it today! Well, that's the plan! Hopefully I follow through!

Edit: I got pulled away from reading, so I'm not going to be able to finish Chain of Gold today, so this is now my wrap up. I do wish that I'd read more, but I did read The House of Earth and Blood which was insanely long, and I did read Queen's Bargain which was pretty dense (not complaining because it's just so enjoyable, both of them, just explaining). I do wish that I hadn't dragged this out all week, since I feel like I can't do daily things when I should be focused on reading. Bah. I read some really fantastic books so I'm happy!
