A flash of white light . . . and then . . . nothing.
When sixteen-year-old Kyra Agnew wakes up behind a Dumpster at the Gas 'n' Sip, she has no memory of how she got there. With a terrible headache and a major case of déjà vu, she heads home only to discover that five years have passed . . . yet she hasn't aged a day.
Everything else about Kyra's old life is different. Her parents are divorced, her boyfriend, Austin, is in college and dating her best friend, and her dad has changed from an uptight neat-freak to a drunken conspiracy theorist who blames her five-year disappearance on little green men.
Confused and lost, Kyra isn't sure how to move forward unless she uncovers the truth. With Austin gone, she turns to Tyler, Austin's annoying kid brother, who is now seventeen and who she has a sudden undeniable attraction to. As Tyler and Kyra retrace her steps from the fateful night of her disappearance, they discover strange phenomena that no one can explain, and they begin to wonder if Kyra's father is not as crazy as he seems. There are others like her who have been taken . . . and returned. Kyra races to find an explanation and reclaim the life she once had, but what if the life she wants back is not her own
My Review:
Oh, how I enjoyed this book! It was just so good, and amazing! Though I'm a bit hesitant to believe that it was aliens, I know they were experimented on by something! I'm just not convinced that it was alien's just quite yet! Though right now, side note, I had written most of this review-and then it disappeared on me. So a bit mad about that disappearance!
So after waking up behind a dumpster (which can't have been fun!) after an argument with her dad, well, it's a bit of a shock that 5 years have passed! And that her parents have divorced, her mom remarried and had a son, and her boyfriend is now living the life that they wanted-with her best friend.
And said now ex-boyfriend's younger brother, Tyler, is about the same age as she was as when she disappeared! Well, because she is the same age, because of the experimentation. And that she, because of being experimented on for 5 years, instead of a couple of days, is pretty special, healing fast, and a few extra things!
It really sucks that she's the reason why Tyler's dying. Because of her blood, from the experimentation. Which really sucks for her! Which leads to some hard choices, and a pretty cliff-hanger-y ending! I really want more, now!
Favourite lines: "We killed them. Crushed, to be precise." Well, that's certainly an opener! "Mostly, I think neighbourhood cats liked to pee in it, though." Having no cats, the best I can say is that this sounds very true! "Don't you have anything that isn't soy? Something that comes from, oh, I don't know, a cow? I'll even take a goat." That's getting a bit desperate! "I don't know why I was so nervous all of a sudden. I'd made Tyler a generous offer, hadn't I? Giving him the chance to risk truancy, and possibly restriction, just to hang out with me for the day. Clearly, my selflessness knew no bounds." Riiiiight. Love this!
This was such a great book, and wow, I can't wait for The Replaced, fingers crossed that it'll go up on Edelweiss!
