Change your fate—or kneel to it. The Companions are scattered and hopeless, torn from each other. After Corayne barely escapes with her life, she must forge on alone, leaving her blade broken and her allies behind her. Her only consolation—Corayne now has Taristan's sword, the only Spindleblade left in existence. Without it, he can't rip open any more Spindles. Without it, he can't end the world. But Taristan and Queen Erida will not be defeated so easily. Both will burn the world to bring down Corayne—and bring forth their demon god, What Waits, ready to claim the realm of Allward for his own.
In a final clash between kingdoms and gods, all must rise to fight—or be destroyed. Everything has come to this. Prepare for a larger-than-life, unforgettable finale to the instant New York Times bestselling Realm Breaker series, where a shattered alliance must rise from the ashes to make their final stand against a ruthless enemy…and the demon god who looks to shroud the entire world in darkness.
My Review:
Oh, wow, I had such a great time reading this book, it was such a great end to the series! That ending of the previous book, where we left these characters, I just had to know what was going to happen next, and the story kept going and I needed more!
After the end of the previous book, with there seeming no way of survival, well, I loved seeing where they went, what they did when they were separated and alone. Because the first book brought them together and the second had them traveling, but this is the first where we know who these characters are, and see what they do without the group.
Erida, my feelings for her are complicated. Like, on one hand, she's serving What Waits for more power, she's Queen. But she's Queen, and there's so many who don't respect that power. In real life, kings and queens aren't great, and there's that perspective, but from this land that doesn't know anything else, the patriarchy is something that she has to face. So she's complex, I felt bad for her, but she also made some pretty horrific decisions.
This is the end of the series. But it doesn't feel like the end of the world, just yet. I mean, What Waits wasn't defeated, he was just blocked from coming to their realm. So like, he's still a threat, and could come after them again some other way. Though I don't know how he got to that in-between realm, and now Taristan and Erida are no longer in the picture, What Waits will just have to find another path.
Plus where we left these characters, we barely got any resolution, after we've spend all this time with them under pressure, to only narration each about where they are, that's hardly enough time to say goodbye to these characters!
Loved reading this book and I can't wait to read more by Victoria Aveyard, including hopefully a spin off series!
