He's more accustomed to speaking for others than speaking up for himself.
Stranded at Stately House, Suuzu Farroost is restless and fretful and lonesome for Akira. Waiting is a misery, and all he has to hold onto is the memory of a fleeting kiss, a circlet of nippet eggs, and one very stubborn, very outspoken valet. To keep him from wallowing, Suuzu's friends find ways to distract him, and as one story leads to another, the phoenix learns about the special place nippets hold in avian lore, especially where courtship is concerned.
*A short story set immediately after the events of Bk5: Fumiko and the Finicky Nestmate.
My Review:
Reading these books again was so fantastic! I love this world and series so much, so spending this time with the characters again, yeah, it was so great! To see the journey that Jacques went on, and watch as Suuzu learned the stories of the gift that Akira gave him, I loved it!
I'm glad that I did this reread, even though I only read these two last year. Because while I remembered most of what happened in the first 3 parts of Lord Mettlebright's Man, that 4th part I've only read the once, in all the lead up that lead to book 5 and 6.
It was interesting being at Stately House, waiting for something to happen, while Suuzu is now sprigged, and Akira is with Jacques, so that's a stressful thing, so collecting the stories of the various nippets is a good distraction! Add in that Hajime is there, and most of them aren't used to him and so forget him, loved it!
That we also got Boniface, helping Suuzu with those stories, as well as not forgetting Hajime, and seeing the place that Jacques holds at Stately House, that was really interesting to read. Because as it turns out, he's not happy being their mom's favourite. So I loved reading this story again!
These were so great to read and I can't wait to continue on with my reread of this world!
