Week 36 Review: Even If the Sky Falls

From Goodreads:
All she needs is one night to be anyone she wants.

Julie is desperate for a change. So she heads to New Orleans with her youth group to rebuild houses and pretend her life isn't a total mess. But between her super-clingy team leader and her way-too-chipper companions, Julie feels more trapped than ever.

In a moment of daring, she ditches her work clothes for DIY fairy wings and heads straight into the heart of Mid-Summer Mardi Gras, where she locks eyes with Miles, an utterly irresistible guy with a complicated story of his own. And for once, Julie isn't looking back. She jumps at the chance to see the real New Orleans, and in one surreal night, they dance under the stars, share their most shameful secrets, and fall in love.

But their adventure takes an unexpected turn when an oncoming hurricane changes course. As the storm gains power and Julie is pulled back into chaos she finds pretending everything is fine is no longer an option.

Mia García's Even If the Sky Falls is a whirlwind twenty-four-hour romance about discovering what it means to feel alive in the face of life's greatest danger: love.

My Review:
This book was slow and sweet, though it did take place during the course of one night. It was a quieter, more intense read, and yeah, it's not something I usually read, because contemporaries aren't really my thing, but I did enjoy it!

There was something that sent Julie away from her home. Something that had to do with her brother. And that mystery was something that we slowly got as the night went on. It was a good portion of this story, and why she's there having these experiences in the first place, and I couldn't wait to find out what happened! It was a pretty tragic story!

I really enjoyed exploring New Orleans with Julie. There were tourist spots, like Café du Monde, but there were little quite spots as well, like the hotel. And of course, the storytelling! And the ghosts! The atmosphere was fantastic in this book!

There were highs and lows, both emotionally, and the events going on. Sometimes that was a good thing, time to relax, but sometimes it meant that something bad had happened. But that meant conflict, which makes for good reading! Really enjoyed that!

This book was a pretty awesome read and I really liked it!

Week 36 Review: Run the Risk

From Goodreads:
From the author of On the Edge and Light of Day, Run the Risk is a romantic and gritty story, perfect for fans of Simone Elkeles.

Grace has done her best to move on since her ex-boyfriend Mateo chose gang life over her. But even though years have passed, she hasn’t forgotten him—especially since she's seen her younger brother Alex drawn to a life on the streets. She can't bear to think of Alex making the same mistakes as Mateo, but she feels him slipping away.

So when Mateo suddenly resurfaces, insisting he's left gang life behind him, Grace sees an opportunity. Maybe he could be the one to reach Alex and pull him away from the edge. She tells herself she's only talking to Mateo again because of Alex, but her feelings quickly return. Can she ever trust Mateo again? And is saving her brother worth risking a broken heart? With everyone she loves in danger, Grace must decide how much to sacrifice before it’s too late.

Run the Risk is set in the same world as Allison van Diepen's previous novels Light of Day and On the Edge (readers will recognize some of their favorite characters in this book) and features a diverse cast. With romance, action, and realistic friendships, this is a gripping story about the dangers one girl faces to save the people she loves.

My Review:
Oh, this was another great book in this series! I don't know why it took me so long to read this one after all the others, because it meant that my memory of those is a bit blurred, but yeah, I think this one stands on its own pretty well!

Grace had a wonderful relationship with Mateo before he joined a gang. Now that he's back in her life, well, it's a good thing because her brother is going down a similar road. Sure, she had to employ a bit of blackmail, but I think he would've helped regardless.

I wasn't sure how this book would be part of the series, with the Destinios gang, and when it came up, well, that was a pretty big conflict between them! Really enjoyed reading that! And there was mentions of previous characters, which was nice!

There were some moments where I raged at the unfairness of it all. Like with her brother and the gang. And then there were some ridiculous moments. It all came together in a really cute, fun, easy and quick read!

Loved reading this book, it was a really great read!

Week 36 Review: More Happy Than Not

From Goodreads:
Part Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, part Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, Adam Silvera's extraordinary debut confronts race, class, and sexuality during one charged near-future summer in the Bronx.

Sixteen-year-old Aaron Soto is struggling to find happiness after a family tragedy leaves him reeling. He's slowly remembering what happiness might feel like this summer with the support of his girlfriend Genevieve, but it's his new best friend, Thomas, who really gets Aaron to open up about his past and confront his future.

As Thomas and Aaron get closer, Aaron discovers things about himself that threaten to shatter his newfound contentment. A revolutionary memory-alteration procedure, courtesy of the Leteo Institute, might be the way to straighten himself out. But what if it means forgetting who he truly is?

My Review:
This book was such a great read! The title says more happy than not, which does say that this book isn't always happy, which is the case. It's understandable, he's gay, or at least bi, and his dad died. Not to say that being gay makes you unhappy, but that the world isn't the kindest, which leads to the unhappiness. It's not deserved, and it's not fair. Bah!

I really enjoyed the way that this story was told, in different parts. The first of him meeting and falling in love with Thomas. The second where there's more falling and admitting that to himself. The third part, wow, was it it a doozy! I wasn't expecting that, though there were a few signs!

This book is set in a world that isn't unlike our own, it just has the Leteo Institute, which lets people forget things. It sounds intriguing, and there are some people who should get it, like those that experienced a trauma that they aren't healing by traditionally means. But not as a easy fix.

The ending, though! That just slayed, because it's not a happy ending, not really. It's resolved, but it's something to deal with. Please, if you see yourself in this story, yours doesn't have to end the same way. True, there's ups and downs in life, but yeah, that ending...parts of that can happen in real life, but not all of it!

Loved reading this book, it was a really fantastic read!

Week 36 Review: Sword and Pen

From Goodreads:
With the future of the Great Library in doubt, the unforgettable characters from Ink and Bone must decide if it's worth saving in this thrilling adventure in the New York Times bestselling series.

The corrupt leadership of the Great Library has fallen. But with the Archivist plotting his return to power, and the Library under siege from outside empires and kingdoms, its future is uncertain. Jess Brightwell and his friends must come together as never before, to forge a new future for the Great Library . . . or see everything it stood for crumble.

My Review:
Man, this was such a fantastic book! After the ending of the last book, I didn't know how they were going to strike that balance of keeping their so called allies from coming in and tearing them apart and actually keeping those people as allies. It was touch and go in a lot of moments, but was so great to read!

Jess grieved for his brother, which lead to some not so great decisions. Especially when they're fighting for the existence of the library. But there were some really cool moments, like when Poseidon rose, or the tomb!

One thing that I loved about this book was that we were in so many different people's heads. Like, the first book we were only in Jess's head. And it seems with each book, we were in more and more POV's, as this book seemed to have the most of all the books. Yeah!

There were two main threats. The various kingdoms who wanted to take over the library, and the Archivist. That meant there was one enemy outside the gates, and one within, which yeah, fighting enemies on two sides isn't a good position to be in!

This book was an excellent end to this series, I really enjoyed it, though I'm sad to say goodbye, it was a fantastic ending!

Week 36 Review: Twice in a Blue Moon

From Goodreads:
From the New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners and the "delectable, moving" (Entertainment Weekly) My Favorite Half-Night Stand comes a modern love story about what happens when your first love reenters your life when you least expect it…

Sam Brandis was Tate Jones's first: Her first love. Her first everything. Including her first heartbreak.

During a whirlwind two-week vacation abroad, Sam and Tate fell for each other in only the way that first loves do: sharing all of their hopes, dreams, and deepest secrets along the way. Sam was the first, and only, person that Tate—the long-lost daughter of one of the world's biggest film stars—ever revealed her identity to. So when it became clear her trust was misplaced, her world shattered for good.

Fourteen years later, Tate, now an up-and-coming actress, only thinks about her first love every once in a blue moon. When she steps onto the set of her first big break, he's the last person she expects to see. Yet here Sam is, the same charming, confident man she knew, but even more alluring than she remembered. Forced to confront the man who betrayed her, Tate must ask herself if it's possible to do the wrong thing for the right reason… and whether "once in a lifetime" can come around twice.

With Christina Lauren's signature "beautifully written and remarkably compelling" (Sarah J. Maas, New York Times bestselling author) prose and perfect for fans of Emily Giffin and Jennifer Weiner, Twice in a Blue Moon is an unforgettable and moving novel of young love and second chances.

My Review:
Wow, this was such a sweet read! I mean, it does contain the heartbreak, but it also has them falling in love, possibly twice! And yeah, that was just adorable to read and I loved it! I adored these characters, and I rooted for them!

Honestly, I just wanted to speed through the beginning, the 14 years ago, because I knew it was going to go wrong, even if I didn't know how. I didn't want to go through their happiness to her heartbreak, to this possible happiness again, I just wanted to skip to the possibly finding their happiness again! I'm weird like that, because conflict is what makes books interesting to read!

Tate was put in an uneasy situation. Lead in a movie that isn't her typical genre, and her first time acting in a movie with her dad, which whom she has an awkward relationship with. And then it turns out the writer of the movie is the one person who betrayed her and broke her heart.

I would've loved a little bit more at the end, to get a little more closure, to deal with the big reveal. After they went through, that would've felt satisfying. But the ending was in a good place, and I really enjoyed it!

This was another amazing book from this duo, and I can't wait to read more!

"Think of the White Gloves like the Junior League—by way of Skull and Bones…"

Things are looking up... until Sawyer and the White Gloves make a disturbing discover near the family's summer home--and uncover a twisted secret, decades in the making.

No one is quite who they seem to be in this twisty, soapy, gasp-inducing sequel to Jennifer Lynn Barnes' unputdownable Little White Lies.

The Guinevere Deception by Kiersten White
Expected Publication: November 5th, 2019
From Goodreads:
From New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White comes a new fantasy series reimagining the Arthurian legend, set in the magical world of Camelot.

There was nothing in the world as magical and terrifying as a girl.

Princess Guinevere has come to Camelot to wed a stranger: the charismatic King Arthur. With magic clawing at the kingdom's borders, the great wizard Merlin conjured a solution--send in Guinevere to be Arthur's wife . . . and his protector from those who want to see the young king's idyllic city fail. The catch? Guinevere's real name--and her true identity--is a secret. She is a changeling, a girl who has given up everything to protect Camelot.

To keep Arthur safe, Guinevere must navigate a court in which the old--including Arthur's own family--demand things continue as they have been, and the new--those drawn by the dream of Camelot--fight for a better way to live. And always, in the green hearts of forests and the black depths of lakes, magic lies in wait to reclaim the land. Arthur's knights believe they are strong enough to face any threat, but Guinevere knows it will take more than swords to keep Camelot free.

Deadly jousts, duplicitous knights, and forbidden romances are nothing compared to the greatest threat of all: the girl with the long black hair, riding on horseback through the dark woods toward Arthur. Because when your whole existence is a lie, how can you trust even yourself?

Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater
Expected Publication: November 5th, 2019

Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw
Expected Publication: November 5th, 2019
From Goodreads:
From New York Times bestselling author of The Wicked Deep comes a haunting romance perfect for fans of Practical Magic, where dark fairy tales and enchanted folklore collide after a boy, believed to be missing, emerges from the magical woods—and falls in love with the witch determined to unravel his secrets.

Be careful of the dark, dark wood…

Especially the woods surrounding the town of Fir Haven. Some say these woods are magical. Haunted, even.

Rumored to be a witch, only Nora Walker knows the truth. She and the Walker women before her have always shared a special connection with the woods. And it's this special connection that leads Nora to Oliver Huntsman—the same boy who disappeared from the Camp for Wayward Boys weeks ago—and in the middle of the worst snowstorm in years. He should be dead, but here he is alive, and left in the woods with no memory of the time he'd been missing.

But Nora can feel an uneasy shift in the woods at Oliver's presence. And it's not too long after that Nora realizes she has no choice but to unearth the truth behind how the boy she has come to care so deeply about survived his time in the forest, and what led him there in the first place. What Nora doesn't know, though, is that Oliver has secrets of his own—secrets he'll do anything to keep buried, because as it turns out, he wasn't the only one to have gone missing on that fateful night all those weeks ago.

For as long as there have been fairy tales, we have been warned to fear what lies within the dark, dark woods and in Winterwood, New York Times bestselling author Shea Ernshaw, shows us why.

Man, there's so many amazing books coming out on the 5th! I can't wait to read them! Such great authors and series! So excited for these books! What about you guys? Happy reading!

OK, so I got 37 posts in 7 days, it was a pretty fantastic week, I read a good number of books, and yeah, really excited for next week now! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read A Brush With Death, An Artless Demise, Dark Illusion, Darkdawn, Magic Outside the Box, More Happy Than Not, Treason of Thorns, Unpregnant, and Vendetta in Death.

Sebastian Gage returns home to battle the ghosts of his past and prevent them from destroying his future with Kiera in the latest exciting installment in this national bestselling series.

July 1831. It's been fifteen years since Sebastian Gage has set foot in Langstone Manor. Though he has shared little with his wife, Lady Kiera Darby, about his past, she knows that he planned never to return to the place of so many unhappy childhood memories. But when an urgent letter from his grandfather reaches them in Dublin, Ireland, and begs Gage to visit, Kiera convinces him to go.

All is not well at Langstone Manor. Gage's grandfather, the Viscount Tavistock, is gravely ill, and Gage's cousin Alfred has suddenly vanished. He wandered out into the moors and never returned. The Viscount is convinced someone or something other than the natural hazards of the moors is to blame for Alfred's disappearance. And when Alfred's brother Rory goes missing, Kiera and Gage must concede he may be right. Now, they must face the ghosts of Gage's past, discover the truth behind the local superstitions, and see beyond the tricks being played by their very own eyes to expose what has happened to Gage's family before the moors claim yet another victim...
November 1831. After fleeing London in infamy more than two years prior, Lady Kiera Darby's return to the city is anything but mundane, though not for the reasons she expected. A gang of body snatchers is arrested on suspicion of imitating the notorious misdeeds of Edinburgh criminals, Burke and Hare—killing people from the streets and selling their bodies to medical schools. Then Kiera's past—a past she thought she'd finally made peace with—rises up to haunt her.

All of London is horrified by the evidence that "burkers" are, indeed, at work in their city. The terrified populace hovers on a knife's edge, ready to take their enmity out on any likely suspect. And when Kiera receives a letter of blackmail, threatening to divulge details about her late anatomist husband's involvement with the body snatchers and wrongfully implicate her, she begins to apprehend just how precarious her situation is. Not only for herself, but also her new husband and investigative partner, Sebastian Gage, and their unborn child.

Meanwhile, the young scion of a noble family has been found murdered a block from his home, and the man's family wants Kiera and Gage to investigate. Is it a failed attempt by the London burkers, having left the body behind, or the crime of someone much closer to home? Someone who stalks the privileged, using the uproar over the burkers to cover his own dark deeds?
A mage and a warrior must see beyond their facades and embrace the bond that links their souls in this powerful Carpathian novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan.

At any other time, Julija Brennan would find solace in the quiet of the Sierra Mountains, but now the mage is in the race of her life. Having broken free from her controlling family, Julija's attempts to warn the Carpathians of the coming threat has failed and put a target on her back—and those who hunt her are close behind...

After centuries locked away in a monastery in the Carpathian Mountains, Isai Florea can't believe he's finally found his lifemate—the missing half of his soul. The second he sees Julija his world blazes with color. But despite their explosive connection Julija rebels against what she sees as Isai's intent to control her and rejects the bond that would prevent him from becoming a monster.

As their unfulfilled bond continues to call to them both, Julija and Isai aim to complete the task that brought them together. They are used to facing danger alone, but now the mage and the ancient warrior must learn how to rely on each other in order to stop a plot that threatens all Carpathians...
A ruthless young assassin's journey for revenge comes to an end in the conclusion of this epic fantasy trilogy

The Nevernight Chronicle is a complex fantasy series about Mia Corvere, a kick-butt, flawed heroine who trains as an assassin as part of her mission for personal revenge. Her tale takes place in the immersive world of Godsgrave which, although based on ancient Rome and Venice, is imaginative with many original details provided by a beloved snarky narrator.

The Republic of Itreya is in chaos. Mia has assassinated Cardinal Duomo and rumors of Consul Scaeva's death ripple through the street of Godsgrave like wildfire. But buried beneath those same streets, deep in the ancient city's bones, lies a secret that will change the Republic forever.

Mia and her brother Jonnen must journey through the depths of the ancient metropolis. Their quest will take them through the Godsgrave underdark, back to the library of the Quiet Mountain and the poisoned blades of Mia's old mentors, and at last the fabled Crown of the Moon. There, Mia will at last discover the origins of the darkin, and learn the destiny that lies in store for her and her world. But with the three suns now in descent, and Truedark on the horizon, will she survive?
Henri is quite accustomed to dangerous and unusual cases landing in his lap. Being partnered to the Shinigami Detective likely has something to do with it. What he is NOT accustomed to is the queen herself marching into his lab and handing them such a case.

Former Royal Mage Joseph Burtchell was found dead in his home, all signs pointing to murder. However, it's in question as to how the murderer accomplished the deed—the house was locked, the wards fully up, and the body bearing a peculiar wound.

It's a locked room mystery, one with a suspiciously absent murder weapon and lack of suspects. Henri's left baffled. Jamie's excited, relishing the challenge the case represents.

Who's powerful enough to thwart a royal mage's wards and murder him undetected?

Violet Sterling has spent the last seven years in exile, longing to return to Burleigh House. One of the six great houses of England, Burleigh's magic always kept the countryside well. And as a child, this magic kept Violet happy, draping her in flowers while she slept, fashioning secret hiding places for her, and lighting fires on the coldest nights to keep her warm.

Everything shattered, though, when her father committed high treason trying to free Burleigh from the king's oppressive control. He was killed, and Vi was forced into hiding.

When she's given a chance to go back, she discovers Burleigh has run wild with grief. Vines and briars are crumbling the walls. Magic that once enriched the surrounding countryside has turned dark and deadly, twisting lush blooms into thorns, poisoning livestock and destroying crops. Burleigh's very soul is crying out in pain.

Vi would do anything to help, and soon she finds herself walking the same deadly path as her father all those years before. Vi must decide how far she's willing to go to save her house—before her house destroys everything she's ever known.
Seventeen-year-old Veronica Clarke never thought she would wish she’d failed a test until she finds herself holding a thick piece of plastic in her hands and staring at two solid pink lines. Even the most consistent use of condoms won’t prevent pregnancy when your boyfriend secretly pokes holes in them to keep you from going out-of-state for college.

Veronica needs an abortion, but the closest place she can legally get one is over nine hundred miles away—and Veronica doesn’t have a car. Too ashamed to ask her friends or family for help, Veronica turns to the one person she believes won’t judge her: Bailey Butler, Jefferson High’s own little black cloud of anger and snark—and Veronica’s ex-best friend. Once on the road, Veronica quickly remembers nothing with Bailey is ever simple and that means two days of stolen cars, shotguns, crazed ex-boyfriends, truck stop strippers with pro-life agendas, and a limo driver named Bob. But the pain and betrayal of their broken friendship can’t be outrun. When their fighting leads to a brutal moment of truth, Bailey abandons Veronica. Now Veronica must risk everything in order to repair the hurt she’s caused.
The predator becomes the prey in the newest thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling series featuring homicide detective Eve Dallas.

She calls herself Lady Justice. And once she has chosen a man as her target, she turns herself into a tall blonde or a curvaceous redhead, makes herself as alluring and seductive as possible to them. Once they are in her grasp, they are powerless.

The first victim is wealthy businessman Nigel McEnroy. His company’s human resources department has already paid out settlements to a couple of his young victims—but they don’t know that his crimes go far beyond workplace harassment. Lady Justice knows. And in one shocking night of brutality, she makes him pay a much steeper price.

Now Eve Dallas and her husband, Roarke, are combing through the evidence of McEnroy’s secret life. His compulsive need to record his misdeeds provides them with a wide range of suspects, but the true identity of Lady Justice remains elusive. It’s a challenging case, made even more difficult by McEnroy’s widow, who reacts to the investigation with fury, denial, and threats. Meanwhile, Lady Justice’s criminal crusade is escalating rapidly, and if Eve can’t stop this vigilante, there’s no telling how much blood may be spilled…
