Week 40 Reviews: Touch of the Demon, Fury of the Demon, Vengeance of the Demon, Legacy of the Demon

Kara Gillian is in Seriously Deep Trouble.

She's used to summoning supernatural creatures from the demon realm to our world, but now she's the one who's been summoned. Kara is the prisoner of the demonic Lord Mzatal, but quickly discovers that she's far more than a mere hostage. He has his own plans to use Kara and keep her from Rhyzkahl-the demonic lord she is sworn to serve. However, waiting for rescue has never been Kara's style, and she has no intention of being a pawn in someone else's game.

Yet intrigue and treachery run rampant amongst all lords, and Kara is hard pressed to keep her wits about her. Her abilities as a homicide detective are put the the test as she seeks the truth about FBI Agent Ryan Kristoff, Rhyzkahl, and herself. But, the answers she finds only raise more questions. She soon discovers that she has her own history in the demon realm-one that goes back farther than she could have ever imagined. But that history may yet spell her doom as she's faced with a peril beyond mortal comprehension.

She's going to need all the strength and tenacity she's developed as a cop and a summoner, or the hell she endures may well last forever.

From Goodreads:
Demon summoner Kara Gillian bears the scars of Rhyzkahl's treachery, but she refuses to let them slow her down. She and the demonic lord Mzatal have not rested in their efforts to recover Idris—Mzatal's summoner protégé who was kidnapped by enemy lords—but now their search has brought them back to Earth.

With the help of FBI agents Ryan Kristoff and Zack Garner, they begin to track down summoners who are working with Rhyzkahl. However, Kara knows Ryan's true identity, and questions of loyalty threaten to tear apart this group of allies. When Kara intervenes to help a brilliant young computer expert and his bodyguard after an accidental shooting, she quickly learns that Rhyzkahl's machinations run deeper than she could have ever imagined. The search for Idris takes on a desperate edge as their enemies increase in number, and Kara realizes that an old homicide case may hold the key to their success—or their doom.

With the very fabric of the universe at stake, Kara must rely on her skills, wit, and luck to save her friends and her world, yet ancient vows will have to be broken if she is to have any hope.

But the price of breaking those vows may be her own blood.

From Goodreads:
Demon summoner Kara Gillian is on the wrong side of the law, and there's evidence to prove it. Too bad the courts don't accept "fighting demonic forces" as justification for murder and mayhem.

Yet Kara has problems that go way beyond her legal woes. When the enemy demonic lords spur their human accomplices into high gear, master summoner Katashi aggressively pursues their goal to establish a permanent gate between Earth and the demon realm. To hell with the consequences for humanity.

The line between ally and enemy blurs as Kara gathers the remnants of her posse to prevent a devastating demonic incursion, but a shattered trust may cost them the war and put Kara behind bars. With treachery rife, and her loved ones in danger, Kara must call upon the essence of who she truly is in order to rally back from a crushing loss.

And if she can't, the world is going straight to hell...

From Goodreads:
Sidelined demon summoner Kara Gillian has her hands full when dimensional rifts allow demons to cause widespread panic and destruction on Earth. These aren't the human-tolerant summonables she's known before, but demons from the far reaches of the demon realm.

Add three demonic lords with conflicting ambitions to the mix, and Kara has the perfect recipe for global disaster.

My Review:
These books were just freaking fantastic! The world expanded so much, and there were a lot of twists and turns! I enjoyed the new characters, they added something more to this series, while everything was changing, and that was just fantastic!

Touch of the Demon completely changed the direction of this series from my perspective. There had been nudges towards this direction in the previous books, but this one, with Kara mostly being in the demon's realm, yeah, new direction!

Kara goes through a lot in these books. Touch was one that was really hard, but also in Fury, that was hard to deal with. Though I don't know if Mzatal and his calling her made the torture easier to resist, while in Fury, she doesn't have that and it's harder to resist. Maybe?

I wish that there'd been more of Mzatal. After all, she kinda hated him in the beginning, then had the amazing bond, then didn't spend much time together with him, but the time that she did have with him was amazing, and then there was the big break, and that hurt! Yeah. I just wish we'd had more of him!

There was just so much happening in these books, from the machinations of the demon lords, and the Mraztur, a group that was a big part of the change! And then there's the shikvihr to master and the various new arcane things that Kara learns. Oh, and someone calling Kara shik-natahr-which has the bit of shikvihr in it, so maybe they're not connected, but have some similar base in meaning? Oh, and the essence blades, which you kinda know are a bad idea from the beginning, but prove it! And the Rakkuhr, whichw as strange and basically bad!

Oh, and finally, the parentage of the Demon Lords, and the story there, combined with the history of the demon realm. Yeah, that was huge, and with Rise of the Demon being the last book, I believe, yeah, it's going to be big! I can't wait to read it!

Loved reading these books, this series was just fantastic, and I can't wait to read Rise of the Demon!
