From New York Times bestselling author Jay Kristoff comes Empire of the Vampire, the first illustrated volume of an astonishing new dark fantasy saga.
From holy cup comes holy light;
The faithful hand sets world aright.
And in the Seven Martyrs' sight,
Mere man shall end this endless night.
It has been twenty-seven long years since the last sunrise. For nearly three decades, vampires have waged war against humanity; building their eternal empire even as they tear down our own. Now, only a few tiny sparks of light endure in a sea of darkness.
Gabriel de León is a silversaint: a member of a holy brotherhood dedicated to defending realm and church from the creatures of the night. But even the Silver Order could not stem the tide once daylight failed us, and now, only Gabriel remains.
Imprisoned by the very monsters he vowed to destroy, the last silversaint is forced to tell his story. A story of legendary battles and forbidden love, of faith lost and friendships won, of the Wars of the Blood and the Forever King and the quest for humanity's last remaining hope:
The Holy Grail.
My Review:
I really enjoyed reading this book again! What with book 2 coming out, I had to reread this one, it's a chonker, and I knew I wouldn't remember enough to go in without a refresher. And I'm so glad that I reread it, because it's such a good story!
This world of vampires and silversaints, oh, it's so interesting, and the worldbuilding of who the silversaints are parented by, and the darkness within them. And then there's the Holy Grail, the hope to save mankind. Pretty epic!

Again, I just love how this story is told, with a older Gabriel, held prisoner by vampires, telling his life's story, of when he was a teenager, and when he was about 30, all building to how he got there now. The one thing I didn't like was that because Gabriel was narrating, everything was in quotations marks, and then speaking was in single quotation marks, which, given how long this book is, was a choice that was made.
This book is violent, and it was clearly written by a guy, it has its flaws, but it's a pretty entertaining read if that's your sort of thing. Gabriel and his journey, from a believer to an addicted, doesn't give a crap about anyone else, but there's still some hope, yeah, it's entertaining and I can't wait to see what happens next!
Loved reading this book and I'm so excited for the sequel!
