Week 36 Review: Empire of the Vampire

From Goodreads:
From New York Times bestselling author Jay Kristoff comes Empire of the Vampire, the first illustrated volume of an astonishing new dark fantasy saga.

From holy cup comes holy light;
The faithful hand sets world aright.
And in the Seven Martyrs' sight,
Mere man shall end this endless night.

It has been twenty-seven long years since the last sunrise. For nearly three decades, vampires have waged war against humanity; building their eternal empire even as they tear down our own. Now, only a few tiny sparks of light endure in a sea of darkness.

Gabriel de León is a silversaint: a member of a holy brotherhood dedicated to defending realm and church from the creatures of the night. But even the Silver Order could not stem the tide once daylight failed us, and now, only Gabriel remains.

Imprisoned by the very monsters he vowed to destroy, the last silversaint is forced to tell his story. A story of legendary battles and forbidden love, of faith lost and friendships won, of the Wars of the Blood and the Forever King and the quest for humanity's last remaining hope:

The Holy Grail.

My Review:
Wow this was such a fantastic book! And it was utterly dark, but that's to be expected from Jay Kristoff's solo books! I loved getting into this world of vampires with a sun that hasn't risen in so long, and meeting Gabriel!

First off, I do have to say, that the way this story was told, of Gabriel narrating it to this vampire, who wants to record this information about silversaints, was a tad bit annoying. There were no quotation marks, so it was a little bit confusing. But I did love how we got to move around the timeline, that was an excellent reason for the way the story was told!

This world of silversaints and vampires is just fantastic to read! When Gabriel was at the training portion of his story, it was fantastic to learn all these details about the silversaints, and the vampires, because that's what they're made to destroy.

The plot about the holy grail, yeah, that was such a great part of this book! There were some really fantastic twists and turns. And with the way that the story ended, it has me really excited to see how things are going to play out in the sequel!

This was a fantastic read, and I can't wait for the sequel!
