Random Reads #270, January 26th
Random Reads is a monthly meme (that I'm going to do weekly) hosted by I'm Loving Books to read some books that have been on our TBR piles for a long time. Using Random.org, I got 6181 which turned out to be Under her Skin by Susan Mallery! It's been on my TBR pile since November 28th, 2015, and I added it because her books are fantastic! Happy reading!
Third Sentence Thursday #285, January 26th
Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme which likes to watch fireworks especially while eating a cookie!
1) Take the book you are currently reading and open it to a random page. Share the third full sentence on that page. (If there isn't a third one – like at the end of a chapter or a blank page – you can share the third sentence of the book or just choose another random page.) Feel free to share more than one sentence, if you feel the need to do so.
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence at Words I Write Crazy (This Blog)
4) Visit one or two of the other blogs to check out their third sentences!
"I miss her, you know?" -Vigilante by Kady Cross, page 11.
That doesn't sound good! I need to read more!

Will the Time Come #295, January 26th
Every Thursday I am going to list a book which I really want to read/keep meaning to get to. These are mostly books which have been on my shelf for awhile now but don't have to be, maybe you got it two weeks ago and really want to read it! Thanks to Jodie from Books for Company for this meme!

SOMETIMES YOU CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES. AND SOMETIMES, THEY CHOOSE YOU...
Once, Max dreamed of a career, a home, a loving family. Now all she wants is freedom...and revenge. A witch named Giselle transformed Max into a warrior with extraordinary strength, speed, and endurance. Bound by spellcraft, Max has no choice but to fight as Giselle's personal magic weapon—a Shadowblade—and she's lethally good at it. But her skills are about to be put to the test as they never have before....
The ancient Guardians of the earth are preparing to unleash widespread destruction on the mortal world, and they want the witches to help them. If the witches refuse, their covens will be destroyed, including Horngate, the place Max has grudgingly come to think of as home. Max thinks she can find a way to help Horngate stand against the Guardians, but doing so will mean forging dangerous alliances—including one with a rival witch's Shadowblade, who is as drawn to Max as she is to him—and standing with the witch she despises. Max will have to choose between the old life she still dreams of and the warrior she has become, and take her place on the side of right—if she survives long enough to figure out which side that is...

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating!
The Struggle by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Expected Publication: March 20th, 2017
From Goodreads:
A bloody path has been chosen…
The war against the Titans continues, and they remain determined to wreak havoc on the world, but Seth has become something all gods fear. Now the most dangerous, most absolute power no longer resides in those who have been freed from their tombs.
The Great War fought by the few is coming…
All may doubt and fear what Seth has become. All except the one woman who might be his final chance at redemption. Josie will do anything to prove that Seth is on their side, but fate has a nasty way of changing lives, of changing people.
In the end, the sun will fall…
The only way they can save the future and save themselves is by facing the unknown together. It will take more than trust and faith. It will take love and the kind of strength not easily broken. No matter what, their lives will never be the same.
For what the gods have feared has come to pass. The end of the old is here and the beginning of the new has been ushered in…
Yeah, it's been a wait for this book and I really want to read it! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read All I Want for Christmas is a Vampire, Embraced by Darkness, The Forgotten, One Blood Ruby, Ones and Zeroes, and Silver Stars!
Toni Davis's Christmas wish list
1. Springing my best friend from the psych ward.
2. Living somewhere that doesn't have coffins in the basement. Occupied coffins.
3. Finding Mr. Right. Please make him tall, dark, handsome, and alive.
This Christmas isn't so merry for Toni. Her best friend's been locked up in a mental hospital ever since she told the police she was attacked by vampires, and the only way for Toni to get her out is to prove that bloodsuckers really do exist. So she's taken a job as a bodyguard for the Undead, but she gets more than she bargained for, especially when she meets Ian MacPhie, a Scottish rascal looking for Ms. Right.
Although Ian's nearly five centuries old, he looks and acts like a twenty-seven-year-old hunk.
How can a dead man be so damn sexy? Could Mr. Wrong be Mr. Right? One forbidden kiss could lead to an eternity of passion—and all it takes is one moment under the mistletoe . . .
She's hunting a killer—
and shattering every boundary—
she's ever known.…
Part vamp, part werewolf, Riley Jenson plays by her own rules, whether it’s her stormy love life or her job as a guardian. But when her family’s alpha male demands that she solve the mystery of a vanished girl, Riley can feel a trap closing in around her. Because the job comes with a catch: if Riley fails, her own mother will die.
Now the stakes are raised, the hunt is on...and when more women vanish, Riley is caught between a lover who demands that she give up her work, a serial killer who knows no boundaries, and a club where humans and supernaturals mix—at their own peril. Thrust into a realm of seduction and violence unlike any she could have imagined, Riley has to battle to save everything she holds dear. But the ultimate hunt has only just begun...
Murdered by a dead man?
A woman named Maria Gomez is murdered in Miami, apparently by her husband—who'd been presumed dead, slain by a crime boss. FBI agent Brett Cody can't believe it; dead or alive, the man had loved his wife. He also can't help feeling guilty, since he was responsible for protecting Miguel and Maria Gomez.
A few miles away, Lara Mayhew has just begun working at a dolphin research facility. She loves her new job—until a dolphin brings her something unexpected from the deep. A human hand. More body parts show up, and when Brett looks into the situation, he discovers that the dismembered corpse is Miguel's.
Soon, rumors of crazed zombies abound in the Miami media, and the Krewe of Hunters, an elite FBI unit of paranormal investigators, is called in. Brett and Lara find themselves working with the Krewe—and working closely together. An elderly crime boss who's losing his memory seems to be key to solving this case, but…there's no motive. Unless Brett and Lara can uncover one in the Miami underworld. And that means they have to protect themselves. And each other.
Now that Lilywhite Abernathy is the heir to the Hidden Lands, everything is about to change.
The Queen of Blood and Rage wants Lily to help broker peace with the human world, but Lily knows that harmony won't come easily. After decades of waging war on the humans, who cost the queen her firstborn daughter, the fae are struggling to accept Lily, a half-human monarch. And the humans, while no match against faery affinities, will hardly agree to the queen's détente without resistance.
Lily wants to be a fair ruler but fears having to abandon the life she’s known to do so. Now that she and Creed are more than just fellow Black Diamonds—operatives for the queen—her priorities have shifted. But her worries about assuming the throne are derailed when it becomes clear that someone—or some fae—is masterminding violent attacks to discourage peace.
In this gripping follow-up to Melissa Marr's lush Seven Black Diamonds, Lily and her friends are forced to reckon with the truth of their own parentage and to protect one of their own, no matter what—or who—comes between them.
From Dan Wells, author of the New York Times bestselling Partials Sequence and the John Cleaver series, comes the second book in a dark, pulse-pounding sci-fi-noir series set in 2050 Los Angeles.Overworld. It's more than just the world's most popular e-sport—for thousands of VR teams around the globe, Overworld is life. It means fame and fortune, or maybe it’s a ticket out of obscurity or poverty. If you have a connection to the internet and four friends you trust with your life, anything is possible.
Marisa Carneseca is on the hunt for a mysterious hacker named Grendel when she receives word that her amateur Overworld team has been invited to Forward Motion, one of the most exclusive tournaments of the year. For Marisa, this could mean anything—a chance to finally go pro and to help her family, stuck in an LA neighborhood on the wrong side of the growing divide between the rich and the poor. But Forward Motion turns out to be more than it seems—rife with corruption, infighting, and danger—and Marisa runs headlong into Alain Bensoussan, a beautiful, dangerous underground freedom fighter who reveals to her the darker side of the forces behind the tournament. It soon becomes clear that, in this game, winning might be the only way to get out alive.
For fans of Girl in the Blue Coat, Salt to the Sea, and The Boy at the Top of the Mountain, the second book of New York Times bestselling author Michael Grant's epic alternate history is a coming-of-age story about three girls who are fiercely fighting their own personal battles in the midst of the greatest war of all time.
The summer of 1943, World War II. With heavy memories of combat, Frangie, Rainy, Rio and the rest of the American army are moving on to their next target: the Italian island of Sicily.
The women won't conquer Italy alone. They are not heroes for fighting alongside their brothers—they are soldiers. But Frangie, Rainy, Rio, and the millions of brave females fighting for their country have become a symbol in the fight for equality. They will brave terrible conditions in an endless siege; they will fight to find themselves on the front lines of WWII; and they will come face-to-face with the brutality of war until they win or die.

Week 3 Review: Dragon King of Treoir
From Goodreads:
New York Times Bestseller Dianna Love's Beladors are back and the surprises keep coming in an action-packed urban fantasy.
The Treoir dragon holds the fate of the Beladors in one hand … and his own in the other.
The Beladors finally have a true leader in Daegan, their new dragon king, but life is far from secure now that they've inherited his enemies. As their Maistir, Vladimir Quinn played a risky role in freeing the dragon from the lair of their enemy, the Medb. Quinn now faces a heavy price for his part. The Medb queen is out for blood. Vigilante killings erupt among Atlanta's secret preternatural community and all fingers point to the Beladors.
The dragon king has his first real test as a ruler when he has to choose between protecting his people and entering a hostile realm full of deities capable of killing a dragon. But as a two-thousand-year-old warrior, Daegan has never shied away from any battle. Quinn, Evalle, Storm and friends race to discover who is trying to turn the entire VIPER coalition against the Beladors before war breaks out.
With the clock also ticking down for Quinn, who has been ordered to hand over Kizira's body to the Medb queen, Daegan reveals an even greater reason to prevent the queen from using necromancy on the body beyond the secrets Quinn protects.
Freedom is never free. Not when the powerful gods and goddesses poised to decide Quinn's fate see an opportunity to also destroy a threat to their existence – the last dragon shifter.
My Review:
Oh, wow, this book was just so fantastic! I've loved this series from the beginning, and it's changed and grown, and yeah, so much happened in this book! I loved reading it so much! And I can't wait for the next book, which I know it going to build upon the rest of this series, and I need it now!
I think this was the first book that didn't focus majorly on Evalle. This book is where Quinn's story really went into gear and yeah, that was really great! And then there was also Daegan, which was wonderful, because we know so little about him!
As always, so much happened in this book! It was like, action, reveal, action, reveal, twist, big huge event! And I loved ever minute of it! It wasn't easy, and yeah, there were a lot of threats, but in the end, the good guys won and have some new information to work with in the future! Though they don't have everything they need quite yet!
That ending was just evil! After a big win, and things seem like they'll settle down-and that big reveal is like, bam! And it was like, oh, no big deal, but yeah, I'm thinking that it's going to be a big part of the next book! Which I'm going to need soon, because I really need more!
Loved this book so much, it was so amazing!

Week 3 Review: Hunted
From Goodreads:
New York Times bestselling author Meagan Spooner spins a thoroughly thrilling Beauty and the Beast story for the modern age, expertly woven with spellbinding romance, intrigue, and suspense that readers won't soon be able to forget.
Beauty knows the Beast's forest in her bones—and in her blood. After all, her father is the only hunter who's ever come close to discovering its secrets. So when her father loses his fortune and moves Yeva and her sisters out of their comfortable home among the aristocracy and back to the outskirts of town, Yeva is secretly relieved. Out in the wilderness, there's no pressure to make idle chatter with vapid baronessas…or to submit to marrying a wealthy gentleman. But Yeva's fathers misfortune may have cost him his mind, and when he goes missing in the woods, Yeva sets her sights on one prey: the creature he'd been obsessively tracking just before his disappearance. The Beast.
Deaf to her sisters' protests, Yeva hunts this strange creature back into his own territory—a cursed valley, a ruined castle, and a world of magical creatures that Yeva's only heard about in fairy tales. A world that can bring her ruin, or salvation. Who will survive: the Beauty, or the Beast?
My Review:
I loved reading this book! Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney stories, what with Belle and her love of reading! And yeah, this book showcased a huge reason why I love retelling-they take the story, and elevate it, because it was more like a retelling mixed with a whole 'nother story/world that was so original and fantastic!
Yeva has a pretty decent life. She doesn't like her lot in life to become a lady, she prefers the wild, and then she basically gets her wish. And that's kinda what happens again and again throughout this book, wanting something, getting it, and yet wanting more! Which was a big, important part of the story!
I loved how everything worked in this world! There were whispers of magical creatures, and watching Yeva dive into this world was just fantastic! And with The Beast, and his/their strange narration, I enjoyed watching everything collide!
I kinda thought that this was a series when I was about 50 pages in. And that's pretty great, because these two earned a happy ending! Though if there was another story set in this world, I wouldn't mind, because this world was so awesome to read about!
Reading this book was just incredible, and I can't wait to read more by Meagan Spooner!

Week 3 Review: The Shadow Hour
From Goodreads:
Everything in Echo's life changed in a blinding flash when she learned the startling truth: she is the firebird, the creature of light that is said to bring peace.
The firebird has come into the world, but it has not come alone. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and Echo can feel a great and terrible darkness rising in the distance. Cosmic forces threaten to tear the world apart.
Echo has already lost her home, her family, and her boyfriend. Now, as the firebird, her path is filled with even greater dangers than the ones she's already overcome.
She knows the Dragon Prince will not fall without a fight.
Echo must decide: can she wield the power of her true nature--or will it prove too strong for her, and burn what's left of her world to the ground?
Welcome to the shadow hour.
My Review:
Yeah, this was an incredible book! I really enjoyed the first book, and then there was this book and it was just so freaking good! Loved catching up with Echo and the gang, and I can't wait to read the 3rd book! It's going to be fantastic!
There was a lot going on in this book. Like finding out that there was an opposite to the Firebird, a creature of darkness. And it's after her. Which means that chaos ensues, and I loved reading it! Though there was a cost. A bunch, actually. Which in turn shoves Echo into the conflict!
In this book, we learn more about Echo's past, and a character comes from Jasper's past to help, but he wasn't at all likable! And it turned out, he was pretty despicable! He totally got what he deserved, and I was glad that it was Jasper who was central to that!
there was Ivy, going back into the trenches and that was so empowering that she did so! She showed really strength there! What Tanith did, was pretty horrible! And that she'd basically use Caius as a battery as so not to use her own energy, was pretty bad! Yeah, fantastic ending, and I need more, such an evil ending!
Loved this book, it was just so fantastic, and I need more!

Week 3 Review: Feversong
From Goodreads:
#1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Marie Moning returns with the epic conclusion to her pulse-pounding Fever series, where a world thrown into chaos grows more treacherous at every turn. As Mac, Barrons, Ryodan, and Jada struggle to restore control, enemies become allies, right and wrong cease to exist, and the lines between life and death, lust and love, disappear completely.
Black holes loom menacingly over Dublin, threatening to destroy the Earth. Yet the greatest danger is the one MacKayla Lane has unleashed from within: the Sinsar Dubh—a sentient book of unthinkable evil—has possessed her body and will stop at nothing in its insatiable quest for power.
The fate of Man and Fae rests on destroying the book and recovering the long-lost Song of Making, the sole magic that can repair the fragile fabric of the Earth. But to achieve these aims, sidhe-seers, the Nine, Seelie, and Unseelie must form unlikely alliances and make heart-wrenching choices. For Barrons and Jada, this means finding the Seelie Queen who alone can wield the mysterious song, negotiating with a lethal Unseelie prince hell-bent on ruling the Fae courts, and figuring out how to destroy the Sinsar Dubh while keeping Mac alive.
This time, there's no gain without sacrifice, no pursuit without risk, no victory without irrevocable loss. In the battle for Mac's soul, every decision exacts a tremendous price.
My Review:
Oh, wow, this book was freaking fantastic! This series has been incredible, and so much happened, and yeah, this book was a really fitting ending! Well, to Mac and Barron's story! But we still have 2 more books in the world still, at least, maybe more, depending! Yeah!
First off, there was the evil cliffhanger ending of Feverborn, where Mac used a spell from the book, and the book took her over. Yeah, that was a big deal! And it was a big part of this book, but not all, because the gang is resourceful!
The themes of choice, and being a kingdom or garden, and that it's our fault when we give the keys over to somebody or plant something bad, and don't take it out. And yeah, the Sinsar Dubh was big on shouty capitals and egotistical mutterings and I loved it!
So much was going on in this book. But it boiled down to, the world is going to die, and soon. Finding the Song of Making is on the to do list. And when they find the parts, well, things are a bit more complicated than that, because there is a cost to it all!
These characters have grown throughout this book, and they keep on going! Maybe not the Nine as much as the rest of them, especially since we don't even know the names of all of them, but the ones we know had some moments! Like Ryordan and Dani, and everything there! And the King and the Consort's romance died out, which was sad, but what he did was too big to overcome!
We got the story of Dani when she was a child, from when she and her mom were happy, to her mom locking her up, and more. And it hurt, because while her mom did it for the right reasons, she did the wrong thing. And it sucks.
Dancer was a pretty important part of this book! We learned more about him, which wasn't easy for Dani! And he was a big help in figuring out the holes. So his ending was a bit sad! But then Dani went for Shazam, so there was a bit of balance there!
Fantastic ending, I didn't expect that! But of course, there still are those 2 other books! I wonder if WeCare is going to be a threat, because they don't like Dani! And there's still the Sweeper and the ZEW's, and the King Roach might be a problem, as well! Can't forgot Cruce, though, that's going to be a big thing! Also, we need to know more about the Nine! I need more!
Yeah, this was a fantastic book, and I can't wait to read the next Karen Marie Moning book!

Week 3 Review: The Last of August
From Goodreads:
In the second brilliant, action-packed book in the Charlotte Holmes trilogy, Jamie and Charlotte are in a chase across Europe to untangle a web of shocking truths about the Holmes and Moriarty families.
Jamie Watson and Charlotte Holmes are looking for a winter break reprieve in Sussex after a fall semester that almost got them killed. But nothing about their time off is proving simple, including Holmes and Watson's growing feelings for each other. When Charlotte's beloved uncle Leander goes missing from the Holmes estate—after being oddly private about his latest assignment in a German art forgery ring—the game is afoot once again, and Charlotte throws herself into a search for answers.
So begins a dangerous race through the gritty underground scene in Berlin and glittering art houses in Prague, where Holmes and Watson discover that this complicated case might change everything they know about their families, themselves, and each other.
My Review:
Oh, this book was so fantastic! It was different from the first book for a few reasons. Like, they're in Europe instead of at school in the US. And that the events of the first book have happened, changing these characters! And I just loved this book!
I really enjoyed the mystery of this book! It's personal in a different way-it's family, and what you'll do to protect them. And there's a new character who was very important to everything, because he's not really new, it's just that he wasn't physically present in the first book!
Jamie feels a need to prove himself in this book, working with Charlotte with her past, and this mystery was a perfect outlet for that! It was more complicated than that, but yeah, that was a big motivation! Loved some of his actions because of it!
That ending, oh! So much was happening, and then it was over, and I just had to still and process everything! Like the choices that people make for the good of their families that aren't always right, and how appearances aren't always true! And oh, that email at the end! That was killer!
This book was incredible, and I can't wait for the 3rd book!

Week 3 Reviews: Santa's Mortuary, When Irish Eyes Are Haunting, The Silenced
From Goodreads:
'Tis the Season for 14 magical, macabre and merry tales to make your Holidays Fantastic.
Gingerbread houses, caroling carolers, brightly trimmed trees, big family dinners, pristine snowfalls-the familiar pleasures of the season.
But what better pleasure is there than a good holiday story? So open this winter solstice sampler and indulge in fully festive fantasies, nightmares before Christmas, and stunning space-age celebrations. These stories will warm hearts and minds like a blazing Yule log.
From Goodreads:
Devin Lyle and Craig Rockwell are back, this time to a haunted castle in Ireland where a banshee may have gone wild—or maybe there's a much more rational explanation—one that involves a disgruntled heir, murder, and mayhem, all with that sexy light touch Heather Graham has turned into her trademark style.
From Goodreads:
Where is Lara Mayhew?
Lara, a congressman's media assistant, suddenly quits her job—and disappears on the way to her Washington, DC, apartment.
Novice FBI agent Meg Murray, a childhood friend of Lara's, gets a message from her that same night, a message that says she's disillusioned and "going home." To Richmond, Virginia. Meg discovers that she never got there. And bodies fitting Lara's description are showing up in nearby rivers… Could she be the victim of a serial killer?
Meg is assigned to work with special agent Matt Bosworth, a hard-nosed pro in the FBI's unit of paranormal investigators—the Krewe of Hunters. They trace the route Meg and Lara took more than once in the past, visiting battlefields and graveyards from Harpers Ferry to Gettysburg. Places where the dead share their secrets with those who can hear… As Meg and Matt pursue the possibility of a serial killer, they find themselves in the middle of a political conspiracy. Is there a connection? And who—besides each other—can they trust?
My Review:
Loved having more of this series! And I've almost caught up to what's been currently published, yeah! We got two short stories with existing characters, and then got a full story with new characters-introducing the lead for the next book, similar in what happened in the Harrison Investigation series!
I really enjoyed seeing seeing these couples again, and the problems that they were facing! Just added that extra touch to the series that makes it as long lived as 15, 16, 17 and on, as this one is! And I enjoyed how they solved things!
The Silenced was really awesome! Besides Meg and Matt, I think my favourite character Killer! I mean, doggies are so cute, even ones that are so ugly they're cute! And Killer was such a help, even after having her former owner killed!
Really enjoyed the mystery, because there were some red herrings and people were set up, and it made for a wonderful ending! And yeah, that Lara came through alive, so she can have her book next in The Forgotten! I can't wait to read it!
This series is so fantastic, and these installments did it justice and I need to read more!
