Week 29 Reviews: While the Duke Was Sleeping, The Scandal of It All, The Duke Buys a Bride

From Goodreads:
Sometimes the man of your dreams . . .

Shop girl Poppy Fairchurch knows it's pointless fantasizing about the Duke of Autenberry. Still, dreams can't hurt anyone . . . unlike the carriage Poppy spies bearing down upon the unsuspecting duke. After she pulls him to safety, the duke lapses into a coma and Poppy is mistaken for his fiancée. But one person isn't fooled: his arrogant and much too handsome half-brother, Struan Mackenzie. Soon Poppy isn't sure what she wants more . . . the fantasy of her duke or the reality of one smoldering Scot who challenges her at every turn.

. . . is not who you think.

An illegitimate second son, Struan may have built an empire and established himself as one of the wealthiest men in Britain, but he knows he will always be an outsider among the ton. Just like he knows the infuriating Poppy is a liar. There's no way the haughty Duke of Autenberry would deign to wed a working class girl. It doesn’t matter how charming she is. Or tempting. Or how much Struan wants her for himself.

It takes two to make a scandal…

What kind of woman ventures into London's most notorious pleasure club? An outsider like Graciela, the Duchess of Autenberry, snubbed time and time again by society because of her Spanish roots. Ela longs to take a lover for a single, wild night, and within the walls of Sodom there are gentlemen to suit every forbidden taste. If only she were not so drawn to the smoldering Lord Strickland…a dangerous man who sees beyond her mask, and could ruin her reputation with a mere whisper.

Lord Strickland never permitted himself to fantasize about the sultry, off-limits lady, but then he never expected to find Ela in a place so wicked, looking for what he's more than too happy to give. She may not be to the ton's taste, but she suits him perfectly. First, however, he must convince her to trust in this dangerous desire—and in the promise of forever unleashed by one wild, scandalous night.

From Goodreads:
A bride wasn't in his plans . . .

The last thing Marcus, the Duke of Autenberry, expects to see after sleeping off a night's drunken shenanigans is a woman being auctioned in the village square. Before he can think about the ramifications, he buys her, thinking he's winning the girl her freedom. Instead, he discovers he's bought a wife.

A duke wasn't in hers . . .

Alyse Bell is almost rid of the shackles that bound her in a name-only marriage, but the day her friend promised to purchase her in a wife auction, he vanishes, leaving her to face a mob of unsavory bachelors intent on owning her body and soul. But the appearance of a wicked, wealthy stranger changes her path forever.

The road to ruin . . .

Marcus doesn't know what to do with the impertinent chit who clearly isn't duchess material! Insisting their marriage isn't legitimate, they leave for his estate in Scotland, hoping to devise a plan to get rid of each other. However, on a journey fraught with misadventure, their attraction grows and Marcus realizes he'll do anything to keep this fiery woman for his own.

My Review:
I enjoyed reading these books! Now that I've read the Debutante Files, it was so great to then reread these books and then read The Duke Buys a Bride! Struam was a pretty important character in the last of that series and the first in this one, so yeah, reading these series closely together was so great!

There's one character who is very important to this series, and yet we'll never meet him. The late duke, father of two of the guys, and the late husband of one of the ladies. And he's scared all of them in different ways. I'm glad that he's gone, because he seems like an awful guy!

The Duke Buys a Bride, I was really excited to read, because Marcus was a lot like his dad in a way, very important, but only a small role, given that he was unconscious for most of the first book, and left in the second. There were a lot of funny moments, like her mule or the aftermath of her kidnapping. And there were some serious moments, like the auction or when she got sick. I really enjoyed watching them grow closer as they traveled together! It was so great to read!

And the fact that we get a 4th book, yeah, I'm really excited about it. And given the ending of The Duke Buys a Bride, and the title, This Scot of Mine, yeah, I have a pretty good idea of what's going to happen in it!

Loved reading theses books, and I'm excited to read more!
