Quinn Maybrook just wants to make it until graduation. She might not make it to morning.
Quinn and her father moved to tiny, boring Kettle Springs to find a fresh start. But ever since the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory shut down, Kettle Springs has cracked in half. On one side are the adults, who are desperate to make Kettle Springs great again, and on the other are the kids, who want to have fun, make prank videos, and get out of Kettle Springs as quick as they can.
Kettle Springs is caught in a battle between old and new, tradition and progress. It's a fight that looks like it will destroy the town. Until Frendo, the Baypen mascot, a creepy clown in a pork-pie hat, goes homicidal and decides that the only way for Kettle Springs to grow back is to cull the rotten crop of kids who live there now.
My Review:
This book was so fantastic! I loved the horror and the way the violence played out, it was unexpected, and so entertaining to read. The beginning was slow and steady, building up these characters and the situation that they found themselves in, before letting lose and having chaos ensue!
Obviously, the prologue was an important piece to why this is happening, in a book, when something the length of a multi-page scene is included, it's important. The question is, how is it important? The answer to that question, yeah, it makes some twisted sense!
Isn't it a world, where people don't take the blame for their actions, and then take their anger of the situation on others? That's what Frendo does. It's not the fault of the teens that the town isn't what it used to be, and they're probably just like other teens-it only looks worse because of the condition of the town. Which again, is not their fault, but Frendo takes it out on them. Highly unfair!
Once the killing started, well, this book didn't let down. There were some really intense moments, and I felt bad for the one character! There were some really great twists, I didn't see those coming, and it was just so fast paced and thrilling to read! Loved how it all wrapped up, that one CPR scene, loved that!
Loved reading this book, it was a great thriller horror book, and I enjoyed it so much!
