Week 4 Review: Uses for Boys

From Goodreads:
Anna remembers a time before boys, when she was little and everything made sense. When she and her mom were a family, just the two of them against the world. But now her mom is gone most of the time, chasing the next marriage, bringing home the next stepfather. Anna is left on her own—until she discovers that she can make boys her family. From Desmond to Joey, Todd to Sam, Anna learns that if you give boys what they want, you can get what you need. But the price is high—the other kids make fun of her; the girls call her a slut. Anna's new friend, Toy, seems to have found a way around the loneliness, but Toy has her own secrets that even Anna can't know.

Then comes Sam. When Anna actually meets a boy who is more than just useful, whose family eats dinner together, laughs, and tells stories, the truth about love becomes clear. And she finally learns how it feels to have something to lose—and something to offer.

My Review:
This was a really strange book. And it made me feel strange, because reading this book, I felt like I was in a daze, that nothing was happening, but it was. Yeah, it was kinda like I was pulled out of time, into my own little strange world of the book's creation. It was very strange!

This really isn't a book for younger kids, because it does have some more adult scenes in it, in Anna's search for family. Sure, she goes about it the right way, but she hasn't had a good example to know what to really be looking for, she just knows that she wants it.

I really did enjoy her with Sam, because because he shows her what a family is like. Which contrasted with Toy, about her only real friend, and a girl to boot, but who had her secrets, and just overall wasn't good for Anna.

I do wish that there'd been something with Anna's mom near the end, because that situation wasn't the best, and for something that showed that things were going to change there. But maybe there was enough change for now!

Really great book, I enjoyed it a ton!
