Week 16 Reviews: No Rest For the Wicked, Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night

From Goodreads:
In this next installment in the Immortals After Dark Series, USA Today Bestselling author Kresley Cole delivers a scorching tale about a forbidding vampire who lives in the shadows and the beautiful assassin who hunts him there.

A vampire soldier weary of life...

Centuries ago, Sebastian Wroth was turned into a vampire—a nightmare in his mind—against his will. Burdened with hatred and alone for ages, he sees little reason to live. Until an exquisite, fey creature comes to kill him, inadvertently saving him instead.

A valkyrie assassin dispatched to destroy him...

When Kaderin the Cold Hearted lost her two beloved sisters to a vampire attack long ago, a benevolent force deadened her sorrow—accidentally extinguishing all of her emotions. Yet whenever she encounters Sebastian, her feelings—particularly lust—emerge multiplied. For the first time, she's unable to complete a kill.

Competitors in a legendary hunt...

The prize of the month-long contest is powerful enough to change history, and Kaderin will do anything to win it for her sisters. Wanting only to win her, forever, Sebastian competes as well, taking every opportunity—as they travel to ancient tombs and through catacombs, seeking relics around the world—to use her new feelings to seduce her. But when forced to choose between the vampire she's falling for and reuniting her family, how can Kaderin live without either?

From Goodreads:
This seductive paranormal series continues with a brutal Highland werewolf and an exquisite young witch, adversaries with a blood vendetta between them.

Her breathless kiss haunts him...

Bowen MacRieve of the Lykae clan was nearly destroyed when he lost the one woman meant for him. The ruthless warrior grew even colder, never taking another to his bed—until a smoldering encounter with his enemy, Mariketa the Awaited, reawakens his darkest desires. When sinister forces unite against her, the Highlander finds himself using all his strength and skill to keep her alive.

His slow, hot touch is irresistible...

Temporarily stripped of her powers, Mari is forced to take refuge with her sworn adversary. It's rumored that no one can tempt Bowen's hardened heart, but soon passion burns between them. Though a future together is impossible, she fears he has no intention of letting her go.

No deed is too wicked for her seduction...

If they defeat the evil that surrounds them, can Mari deny Bowen when he demands her body and soul—or will she risk everything for her fierce protector?

My Review:
I loved these books! They were freaking great, and we got to see more and more of the world, just a brief dip in Rest, with Sebastian being able to trace to Kaderian, and not just a place, to a major one in Deeds, because we have a witch FMC, and some more in-depth interaction with some characters of other Lore-species, like 2 types of demons, storm and rage. Which was pretty cool!

These were 2 great couples, they were interesting, fun, and they worked well together, working through their issues, first that Sebastian was trying to impress Kaderian by winning the Hie, while Kaderian wanted to win it to get the prize, so she could save her 2 sisters-sisters with whom she was a triplet. So yeah, they had that. Bowen and Mari have to deal with that he trapped her in a prison for weeks, she cursed him to not heal, and that he thought she cursed him again with making her his mate. And she had some trust issues, of being second best, never chosen first. Yep.

I really found Riora, and then Kaderian's sisters, pretty interesting, first a goddess of Impossibility, then 2 Valkyries from 1000 years ago, talking like Shakespeare would have trouble understanding them, I think, and yeah, they were fun to watch for a bit, as they were slowly introduced to the present world. And yeah, it was just really nice. There wasn't a specific bad guy in this one, it was more focused on the romance, which really worked in this book!

Deeds, with him dealing with the guilt over the mate that he killed, and then being attracted, and his Instinct telling him that Mari was his mate...yeah. And yeah, I was thinking that she was a reincarnation of his previous mate, until the "previous mate" walked in the front door. But that dealt with the bad guy of the book, the goddess that the witches would've worshipped if she hadn't been stripped of her goddess-hood. And yeah, with Mari's parents, and all that.

Yeah, these were just 2 great, wonderful books, can't wait to read more of this series!

  1. These were awesome!
Who doesn't like the Wroth brothers.
I like the way Cole writes in humor in the books. My favorite part was when Bowen calls out the wrong name...a sure way to piss of a witch.

  2. I know! So far (and probably alaways) this has been such a fantastic series! Though now there's not going to be a new Wroth brother book, maybe a sister, since as far as I've read, they've gotten close to going to get them back from the past and death :)

Yeah, Bowen was an idiot then! But she ended up with him when he cleaned up his act, so yeah :)
