Week 18 Reviews: The King's Games, Frostfire, Ice Kissed, Crystal Kingdom

From Goodreads:
In this novelette set five years before the events in the Kanin Chronicles, Bryn Aven is struggling to find her place in the secret kingdom of the Kanin—a realm as beautiful as it is treacherous.

Born of mixed heritage, fourteen-year-old Bryn has never felt like she completely belonged. Now, with the summer sun thawing the frozen province, the yearly King's Games are about to begin, and an opportunity has arisen to squire the popular guard, Konstantin Black. Bryn can finally prove herself and earn the respect she craves.

From Goodreads:
Bryn Aven is an outcast among the Kanin, the most powerful of the troll tribes.

Set apart by her heritage and her past, Bryn is a tracker who's determined to become a respected part of her world. She has just one goal: become a member of the elite King's Guard to protect the royal family. She's not going to let anything stand in her way, not even a forbidden romance with her boss Ridley Dresden.

But all her plans for the future are put on hold when Konstantin– a fallen hero she once loved – begins kidnapping changelings. Bryn is sent in to help stop him, but will she lose her heart in the process?

From Goodreads:
In the majestic halls of a crystal palace lies a secret that could destroy an entire kingdom…

Bryn Aven refuses to give up on her dream of serving the kingdom she loves. It's a dream that brings her to a whole new realm…and the glittering palace of the Skojare.

The Skojare people need protection from the same brutal enemy that's been threatening the Kanin, and Bryn is there to help. Being half Skojare herself, it's also a chance for her to learn more about her lost heritage. Her boss, Ridley Dresden, is overseeing her mission, but as their undeniable attraction heats up, their relationship is about to reach a whole new level—one neither of them is prepared for.

As they delve deeper into the Skojare world, they begin to unravel a long-hidden secret. The dark truth about her own beloved Kanin kingdom is about to come to light, and it will change her place in it forever…and threaten everyone she loves.

From Goodreads:
The kingdom she loves has turned against her. Can she save it before it's too late?

Bryn Aven—unjustly charged with murder and treason—is on the run. The one person who can help is her greatest enemy, the gorgeous and enigmatic Konstantin Black. Konstantin is her only ally against those who have taken over her kingdom and threaten to destroy everything she holds dear. But can she trust him?

As Bryn fights to clear her name, the Kanin rulers' darkest secrets are coming to light…and now the entire troll world is on the brink of war. Will it tear Bryn from Ridley Dresden, the only guy she's ever loved? And can she join forces with Finn Holms and the Trylle kingdom? Nothing is as it seems, but one thing is certain: an epic battle is under way—and when it's over, nothing will ever be the same…

My first review of The King's Games, Frostfire, Ice Kissed, Crystal Kingdom
My Review:
I really enjoyed reading this series again! I really enjoyed it the first time, and since we're getting the 3rd and final troll world series soon, I decided I had to do a reread of all 6 previous books, so now I'm all caught up for the Omte Origins!

Getting to know Bryn and going on these adventures with her was really great! One thing about her though, is that she takes a lot of responsibility and guilt that isn't her's to bear. At the end of Frostfire, she's attacked, and blames herself for the bad guys getting away. It's like, you had no idea this was happening, and you were by yourself, against two. It isn't your fault. I kinda wanted to rant at her. Yeah.

There was a bit of a romance with Riley, but she fought it, because she had a goal in life, and seeing how much her parents gave up for love, well, she didn't want to lose that much. I really enjoyed watching her deal with her feelings and struggle to know what she wants, given all the upheavals she went through.

So much happens in this series, with Konstantin Black, who his allies where, and the whole civil war, which pulled in all the other tribes. I remembered that twist, but I forgot all the little details, the loss, and the victories. But it was so entertaining to read!

This series is so great, I really enjoy reading it, and I can't wait for the 3rd and final series!
