Bestselling author Joelle Charbonneau's eerily timely, high-stakes page-turner is destined to start important conversations at this particular moment in our history.
Meri Beckley lives in a world without lies. When she looks at the peaceful Chicago streets, she feels pride in the era of unprecedented hope and prosperity over which the governor presides.
But when Meri's mother is killed, Meri suddenly has questions that no one else seems to be asking. And when she tries to uncover her mother's state of mind in her last weeks, she finds herself drawn into a secret world with a history she didn't know existed.
Suddenly, Meri is faced with a choice between accepting the "truth" or embracing a world the government doesn't want anyone to see—a world where words have the power to change the course of a country and where the wrong ones can get Meri killed.
My Review:
This book was a really great read. I was pretty certain that it was going to stoke the fires of indignation in me on behalf of the characters, and it most definitely did that. This world that touted that they didn't have lies, well, Meri gets pulled finding out that is not true, and I just loved her adventure!
First off, I have to say, that the covers on this book and Disclose are just stunning. These are the kind of covers that I love, with beautiful colours. Plus there's the colours of fire, with the book, which goes pretty well with the content of this book.
Meri has had it tough recently. Her mom died, and her dad has fallen apart, leaving Meri to try and keep things running. But it gets worse when she finds out secrets that her mom was keeping. I felt so bad that she was going through this, and I just wanted things to get better for her!
But man, that ending! I think that it's a duology, I'm 80% certain, though it could be a trilogy or more. But I'm leaning towards a duology. And it couldn't end on a happy happy note, then there wouldn't have been much plot for the sequel. But I didn't expect how awful a situation the characters would be left in! But there is hope, and that hope will keep them going and I can't wait!
This was a really great read, and I can't wait to see where the sequel goes!
