When it comes to tracking deadly paranormal doings, there's no such thing as a "Day Off" for the Chicago P.D.'s wizard detective, Harry Dresden.
New York Times bestselling author Jim Butcher delivers a hard-boiled tale in which Harry Dresdens latest case may be his last. From Goodreads: Let's get something clear right up front. I'm not Harry Dresden. Harry's a wizard. A genuine, honest-to-goodness wizard. He's Gandalf on crack and an IV of Red Bull, with a big leather coat and a .44 revolver in his pocket. He'll spit in the eye of gods and demons alike if he thinks it needs to be done, and to hell with the consequences--and yet somehow my little brother manages to remain a decent human being. I'll be damned if I know how. But then, I'll be damned regardless. My name is Thomas Raith, and I'm a monster. So begins "Backup" a twelve thousand word novelette set in Jim Butcher's ultra-popular Dresden Files series. This time Harry's in trouble he knows nothing about, and it's up to his big brother Thomas to track him down and solve those little life-threatening difficulties without his little brother even noticing.

Finally, Irwin is all grown up and has a grown-up's typical problems as a freshman in college in "Bigfoot on Campus," or would have if typical included vampires.
Long ago, Susan Rodriguez was Harry Dresden's lover-until she was attacked and left struggling with the bloodlust of the vampiric Red Court. Now, she needs Harry's help. Harry's enemies have found the secret she has hidden for so long, and he will have to unleash the full fury of his untapped power.
Because this time, he's fighting to save his "child."
Harry's phone call in Changes.
Here, together for the first time, are the shorter works of #1 "New York Times" bestselling author Jim Butcher-a compendium of cases that Harry and his cadre of allies managed to close in record time. The tales range from the deadly serious to the absurdly hilarious. Also included is a novella exclusive to this collection that takes place after the cliff-hanger ending of the April 2010 hardcover, "Changes." This is a must-have collection for every devoted Harry Dresden fan as well as a perfect introduction for readers ready to meet Chicago's only professional wizard.
When an unknown someone shoots him and leaves him to die, Harry Dresden hopes he might be heading to a better place. Unfortunately, being dead doesn't make Harry's life any easier.
Trapped between life and death, he learns that his friends are in serious trouble. Only by finding his murderer can he save his friends and move on--a feat which would be a lot easier if he had a body and access to his powers. Worse still are the malevolent shadows that roam Chicago, controlled by a dark entity that wants Harry to suffer even in death.
Now, the late Harry Dresden will have to pull off the ultimate trick without using any magic--or face an eternity as just another lost soul...
Molly teams up with Justine and Andi to thwart a Fomor plot.
HARRY DRESDEN LIVES!!!
After being murdered by a mystery assailant, navigating his way through the realm between life and death, and being brought back to the mortal world, Harry realizes that maybe death wasn’t all that bad. Because he is no longer Harry Dresden, Chicago's only professional wizard.
He is now Harry Dresden, Winter Knight to Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness. After Harry had no choice but to swear his fealty, Mab wasn't about to let something as petty as death steal away the prize she had sought for so long. And now, her word is his command, no matter what she wants him to do, no matter where she wants him to go, and no matter who she wants him to kill.
Guess which Mab wants first?
Of course, it won't be an ordinary, everyday assassination. Mab wants her newest minion to pull off the impossible: kill an immortal. No problem there, right? And to make matters worse, there exists a growing threat to an unfathomable source of magic that could land Harry in the sort of trouble that will make death look like a holiday.
Beset by enemies new and old, Harry must gather his friends and allies, prevent the annihilation of countless innocents, and find a way out of his eternal subservience before his newfound powers claim the only thing he has left to call his own…His soul.
Molly Carpenter - Harry Dresden's apprentice-turned-Winter Lady - must collect a tribute from a remote Fae colony and discovers that even if you're a good girl, sometimes you have to be bad.
Harry Dresden, Chicago's only professional wizard, is about to have a very bad day…
Because as Winter Knight to the Queen of Air and Darkness, Harry never knows what the scheming Mab might want him to do. Usually, it's something awful.
He doesn't know the half of it…
Mab has just traded Harry's skills to pay off one of her debts. And now he must help a group of supernatural villains—led by one of Harry's most dreaded and despised enemies, Nicodemus Archleone—to break into the highest-security vault in town, so that they can then access the highest-security vault in the Nevernever.
It's a smash and grab job to recover the literal Holy Grail from the vaults of the greatest treasure hoard in the supernatural world—which belongs to the one and only Hades, Lord of the freaking Underworld and generally unpleasant character. Worse, Dresden suspects that there is another game afoot that no one is talking about. And he's dead certain that Nicodemus has no intention of allowing any of his crew to survive the experience. Especially Harry.
Dresden's always been tricky, but he's going to have to up his backstabbing game to survive this mess—assuming his own allies don't end up killing him before his enemies get the chance…

My Review:
I really got bit by The Dresden Files bug. I just had to keep reading this series, at least until I caught up to Peace Talks. I loved seeing Harry deal with more and more difficult situations, to the point where he's asking if he's the same person anymore. Yeah, he goes through a lot of changes in these books!
Changes is a game changer in the world. I mean, the fact that Harry has a daughter? That's life changing enough. On top of that, the situation she's in, well, Harry's Harry and he has to rescue her. And his desperate need to do so combined with all the other factors, well, causes him to cross some lines.
We do get developments with Harry and Karrin's relationship. It's just a little bit hilarious, how often they stop and start. All the obstacles in their way, but also the life-threatening events all come together to form this so cute but so with such awkward timing relationship!
Harry goes through a lot in these books, from Maggie and his decisions there, what with becoming the Winter Knight, and you know, dying. Yeah, Ghost Story and then Cold Days, I just couldn't put it down! The threats are getting bigger, Harry's getting smarter and more skilled, and I just loved reading about Harry facing them down so much!
Loved reading these books, they were so fantastic, and I need to continue on with the series!
