Week 24 Review: Carry On

From Goodreads:
Simon Snow is the worst chosen one who's ever been chosen.

That's what his roommate, Baz, says. And Baz might be evil and a vampire and a complete git, but he's probably right.

Half the time, Simon can't even make his wand work, and the other half, he sets something on fire. His mentor's avoiding him, his girlfriend broke up with him, and there's a magic-eating monster running around wearing Simon's face. Baz would be having a field day with all this, if he were here—it's their last year at the Watford School of Magicks, and Simon's infuriating nemesis didn't even bother to show up.

Carry On is a ghost story, a love story, a mystery and a melodrama. It has just as much kissing and talking as you'd expect from a Rainbow Rowell story—but far, far more monsters.

My Review:
I absolutely loved reading this book again! Knowing that Simon and Baz would end up together, well, I looked for the little clues that meant that was the path they were going on, and oh, the tension between the two of them, with Baz in love and Simon clueless, you could say it's because they enemies-but you can also call it attraction, and I loved it!

I did remember most of what happened with the ghost, and with the Mage. I forgot some of the details, like why Simon and Humdrum are connected, but there were some lost details. And I just find it so sad that Simon doesn't find out about his mom. Maybe that's something that'll come up in book 3? Fingers crossed!

I don't know what I love more, that this is a book that pokes fun at the chosen one tropes, the way the magic works, or these characters and their LGBT+ leanings. They're all so great, and they all come together really well in this book.

That ending though? That was something else, even knowing it was coming. And knowing what's coming for Simon and the gang, I can understand why they act that way, given what happened in this book! It was so great to read!

Loved rereading this book, and I can't wait to continue!
