Week 26 Review: The Darkest Warrior

From Goodreads:
A searing Lords of the Underworld tale by New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter, featuring a beastly prince and the wife he will wage war to keep.

He is ice...

Puck the Undefeated, host of the demon of Indifference, cannot experience emotion without punishment, so he allows himself to feel nothing. Until her. According to ancient prophecy, she is the key to avenging his past, saving his realm, and ruling as king. All he must do? Steal her from the man she loves—and marry her.

She is fire...

Gillian Shaw has suffered many tragedies in her too-short life, but nothing could have prepared the fragile human for her transition into immortality. To survive, she must wed a horned monster who both intrigues and frightens her...and become the warrior queen she was born to be.

Together they burn.

As a rising sense of possession and obsession overtake Puck, so does insatiable lust. The more he learns about his clever, resourceful wife, the more he craves her. And the more time Gillian spends with her protective husband, the more she aches for him. But the prophecy also predicts an unhappily ever after. Can Puck defeat fate itself to keep the woman who brought his deadened heart back to life? Or will they succumb to destiny, losing each other…and everything they’ve been fighting for?

My Review:
Man, I really loved this book! Gillian has been a part of the series almost since the beginning, and I was so glad to read about her find her happiness! Sure, it's not with William, as has been set up in the previous books, but things were too uneven with them, and then with the time difference where she spend 500 years growing up, he didn't realize that she was different, that she was a warrior.

Honestly, I wasn't sure how Gillian could end up with either William or Puck in the beginning. She was only finishing up her 2nd decade of life, and she'd suffered terrible abuse. The 500 years, though, those were key, and I loved how we got diary entries to showcase some of her growth. So great!

Oh, oh, oh, oh! There was this one line, about how Axel had the same features as William and how he was adopted by a family of Sent Ones. Which means they were both adopted, and are most likely brothers, perhaps even twins! Squee!

I really enjoyed how everything came together! Keeley had a pretty big part in behind the scenes actions, like dealing with Puck's brother Sin, and giving Puck Indifference, but also, so much more than that! I really enjoyed how things worked out with the prophecies, because prophecies are always tricky, and like is the case in this book, are solved in unexpected ways!

There was set up for both The Darkest Captive, and The Darkest King, the first Legion Honey and Galen's book, the next William's! And we have the title for his book! Yeah! Go Keeley for telling him where he could find the one to decode his book! We also got the potential for Sin to have a book since he got a prophecy with finding a lady love, given his current situation, since he is a Lord, twice over, now. And Galen's getting redeemed now, why not Sin? I'd be interested in him having a book!

Man, this book was so freaking great, and I can't wait for Legion/Honey and Galen's book!

Week 26 Review: Vendetta

From Goodreads:
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen comes a new explosive, compelling thriller.

With his dying breath, Carl Venable, head of the CIA task force on terrorism and Jude Brandon's final link to terrorist ringleader Max Huber, gives Brandon a mandate: keep his daughter, Rachel, safe at any cost. But Rachel Venable has a shocking, twisted past of her own, one that comes rushing back after her medical clinic in Guyana is attacked by Huber—the same man who murdered her father and kept her imprisoned for months.

Brandon and Catherine Ling, Rachel's longtime ally and fierce protector, are determined to keep Rachel out of danger, but she knows that it’s impossible to stay hidden when Max Huber wants you dead.

As Rachel and Brandon race against the clock to bring Huber down before he can orchestrate a disaster that will lay waste to half the country, they also fight a growing attraction to each other – an attraction that could prove just as dangerous as Huber himself.

In this gripping, fast-paced novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen, one thing is clear: everyone has a vendetta, and no one will rest until they get their revenge.

My Review:
This book was so freaking amazing to read! Both Rachel and Brandon are new characters, at least to me, I think. We also go to check in with Catherine, which was great, and really made me want a 5th book and beyond in her series! Well, apparently this book is #5, so hopefully we'll get more!

Carl Venable was a part of the Eve Duncan series almost from the beginning. That this book almost right off the bat ends up with him dead, yeah, that was a pretty big blow. His actions, while for the greater good, meant that he didn't always get along with our lead characters, but he tried his best for the best outcome for his country. So it was sad to see him go, and we hardly had time time mourn before some pretty big action scenes.

This book, we did get some Catherine Ling POV's. It was so great to catch up with her after the events of Your Next Breath, because things aren't the way that I would've thought after that book. So yeah, that was really great to read!

I had kinda thought that the informant was going to be the second in command guy of the bad guys. I was wrong, and who it was, yeah, that came out of nowhere! And yeah, it made the ending all the more better! I need to know what's going to happen next!

This book was so awesome, I loved reading it, and I can't wait to see how the overarching universe that Iris Johansen has created will continue!

Week 26 Review: A Good Debutante's Guide to Ruin, An Heiress for All Seasons, All the Ways to Ruin a Rogue

From Goodreads:
The last woman on earth he would ever touch . . .

Declan, the Duke of Banbury, has no interest in ushering Rosalie Hughes, his stepsister, into society. Dumped on him with nowhere else to go, he's determined to rid himself of the headstrong debutante by bestowing on her an obscenely large dowry . . . making her the most sought-after heiress of the Season.

. . . is about to become the only one he wants.

But Rosalie isn't about to go along with Declan's plans. Surrounded by fortune hunters, how is she supposed to find a man who truly wants her? Taking control of her fate, Rosalie dons a disguise and sneaks into Sodom, a private club host to all manner of illicit activity—and frequented by her infuriatingly handsome stepbrother.

In a shadowed alcove, Declan can't resist the masked temptress who sets his blood afire . . . any more than Rosalie can deny her longing for a man who will send her into ruin.

From Goodreads:
When a holiday blizzard brings together a pair of reluctant lovers, the result threatens their reputations … and may cost them their hearts.

Feisty and independent American heiress Violet Howard swears she'll never wed a crusty British aristocrat. Will, the Earl of Merlton, is determined to salvage his family's fortune without succumbing to a marriage of convenience.

But when a snowstorm leaves Violet and Will stranded and alone, their sudden chemistry will challenge good intentions. Seized by a desire that burns through the night, they'll toss reservations aside in favor of the heat found in each other's arms.

Will their passion survive the storm? Will they realize they've found a love to last them through all seasons?

From Goodreads:
There was once a lady who loathed a lord...

Lady Aurelia hasn't always hated Max, Viscount Camden, her brother's best friend. In fact, as a besotted girl, she thrived under his kind attention—sure that he was the most noble and handsome man in the land. Until her young heart discovered what manner of rogue he really was. Now, though she enjoys nothing more than getting on his last nerve, she can’t deny Max drives her to distraction—even if she tries to pretend otherwise.

...and a lord who was confounded by a lady.

Max cannot recall a time when Aurelia did not vex him. If she was not his friend’s sister, he would stay far away from the infuriating vixen. Unfortunately, they are always thrown together. At parties and family gatherings…she is always there. Infuriating him, tossing punch in his face, driving him mad...until one night, she goes too far and he retaliates in the only way he can: with a kiss that changes everything.

My Review:
It was a lot of fun to read these books! I have read The Rogue Files series, which comes after this series, so I had to read this series now before I reread The Rogue Files! And yeah, these books were so fantastic to read!

These characters were all pretty close, the first are about a guy and his step-sister, the second the guy is a cousin of the first guy, and the third, the guy is a friend of both the previous guys, and the girl is the sister of the second guy and cousin of the first guy. Yeah.

Each of these couples had their own complications. In Guide to Ruin, they were step-siblings, which is a little bit of a faux pas, but it's not like they were actually related! In All Seasons, she had her love that wasn't appropriate, and then she's not an heiress anymore, which is what he needs. And in Ruin a Rogue, they've had a contentious relationship ever since a series of events that alienated the two of them against the other. But there was still that attraction, which leads to ruin! So great to read!

I wondered how this series was connected to Rogue Files. And it's in All the Ways to Ruin a Rogue when we find out-that Aurelia was courted by Struan, the hero of While the Duke Was Sleeping. So yeah, that was a great connection! And the ending with Struan being married, to Poppy, yeah, that was a fantastic ending!

This series was really great to read, and I can't wait to read more!

Week 26 Review: Double Blind

From Goodreads:
The #1 New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award winning authors are back with an electrifying new novel that will leave your heart racing.

Kendra Michaels, formerly blind and now a hired gun for law enforcement agencies who relies on her razor-sharp powers of observation, is reluctant to help the FBI with the most recent case they've brought to her. But then she hears the details: the body was found just blocks away from Kendra’s condo. The young woman was carrying an envelope with Kendra's name on it, and inside was an SD card with what appears to be an innocuous video of a wedding reception. The woman died trying to get the video to Kendra, but for what purpose? Before Kendra and the FBI can answer that question, the bride is abducted from her suburban home.

And so the hunt is on for a killer whose nightmarish plan is slowly becoming clear. A plan that involves a powerful law firm and a multi-billion dollar corporation. As the body count rises, Kendra joins forces with private investigator Jessie Mercado and agent-for-hire Adam Lynch to stop the plot as it grows ever closer to its terrifying conclusion.

In Double Blind, Iris and Roy Johansen deliver an emotional, gripping new entry in the bestselling Kendra Michaels series.

My Review:
Wow, I really enjoyed reading this book! I really enjoyed seeing these two together, the dance that they're doing of having a romantic relationship gets ever closer, which is so great to read! Plus there's a very interesting mystery, which I loved reading!

The mystery in this book, that this woman is killed with a video of a wedding reception and then those in the video are killed? Yeah, it's random, and that makes it all the more difficult! I really enjoyed the investigation and where it lead, because this was a bad guy and group that deserved to be taken down!

Yeah, we have Jessie again in this book! And things are personal in this book. And I can totally understand why, the whole situation was really frustrating! I mean, they were basically screwed over, and a chance to get back at them, yeah, I was like, go for it!

Yeah, with the ending of this book, it's a bit different. I would say it was more like the ending of Night Watch, where things aren't totally resolved, that there's still things to do, but yeah, overall, it's a pretty satisfying ending, and I Really enjoyed reading it!

This book was so amazing, and yeah, I can't wait for the next book!

Week 26 Review: Iron and Magic

From Goodreads:
No day is ordinary in a world where Technology and Magic compete for supremacy…But no matter which force is winning, in the apocalypse, a sword will always work.

Hugh d'Ambray, Preceptor of the Iron Dogs, Warlord of the Builder of Towers, served only one man. Now his immortal, nearly omnipotent master has cast him aside. Hugh is a shadow of the warrior he was, but when he learns that the Iron Dogs, soldiers who would follow him anywhere, are being hunted down and murdered, he must make a choice: to fade away or to be the leader he was born to be. Hugh knows he must carve a new place for himself and his people, but they have no money, no shelter, and no food, and the necromancers are coming. Fast.

Elara Harper is a creature who should not exist. Her enemies call her Abomination; her people call her White Lady. Tasked with their protection, she's trapped between the magical heavyweights about to collide and plunge the state of Kentucky into a war that humans have no power to stop. Desperate to shield her people and their simple way of life, she would accept help from the devil himself—and Hugh d'Ambray might qualify.

Hugh needs a base, Elara needs soldiers. Both are infamous for betraying their allies, so how can they create a believable alliance to meet the challenge of their enemies?

As the prophet says: "It is better to marry than to burn."

Hugh and Elara may do both.

My Review:
Oh, yeah, wow, this book was absolutely amazing! I loved reading it so much! Hugh wa
sn't the best character in the Kate Daniels series, but after he was cut off from Roland, well, he's changed, and I really enjoyed him and Elara together. The sparks and the cutting words just flew!

There is a lot of mystery surround Elara. She's the leader of a group that split up, and we're pretty sure it's because of her. But not the precise reason. Just that she's scary powerful. But we don't know why or how, and I can't wait to find out the answers to those questions!

These two weren't a traditional couple. They both could be seen as the villains. But at least in this book, they're trying to protect their people. But their pasts have a habit of popping up, like when Raphael and Andrea show up to confront Hugh about killing Raphael's mom. Yeah. That was pretty intense!

There were two threats in this book. The guy in charge of the vampire riders, and then the random creatures controlled by soldiers with armor that is really hard to break. Who might be the product of the gods or something, or through the portals like in Magic Burns. So that's interesting and scary and exciting to read!

I loved reading this book and I can't wait to read Magic Triumphs and the other two books in the Iron Covenant series!

Week 26 Review: Dark Sentinel

From Goodreads:
In an explosive novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan, a human woman ignites the desire of her Carpathian lifemate--and of an ancient vampire with a score to settle.

After the devastating loss of her entire family, Lorraine Peters heads to the woods searching for peace of mind and anything to quell the anger in her soul. Instead, she stumbles upon a scene of horrific violence, as one man lies helpless in the face of three attackers.

Andor Katona's existence has been a harsh one, living for centuries as a monk in the Carpathian Mountains. Unable to find his lifemate, he almost welcomes his release from a colorless and unfeeling world at the hands of the vampire hunters who have mistaken him for their prey. That is, until a whirling ball of fury bursts onto the scene, determined to save him.

In one glimpse, in one breath, Andor recognizes Lorraine as his lifemate, but it will take more than their telepathic connection to convince her of their immortal bond. Lorraine is a lethal combination of cunning and courage. So much so that she captures the attention of a master vampire, one who has already lost what was once irreplaceable to him. One who will strike with deadly precision at Andor and his ancient Carpathian comrades in a war to end all wars. . .

My Review:
Yeah, another amazing book in this series! Since the focus on the new American compound, the series has felt pretty fresh, and I'm really enjoyed the Ancients from the monastery finding their happiness! It's just so great to read!

This book starts off very quickly, and it's kinda funny, though it is life threatening. I mean, she comes to rescue him with a sauce pan! It's fairly fast paced, and tit's different from other books, there's basically one kiss and nothing further for the first third to maybe half. Things heat up very quickly, but since he's injured, they can't really do anything until he's healed.

So we learn more about the bad guy, and yeah, it's not good, because he's different from the others, even the others in his family. So to beat him, it's going to take innovation, and it's going to be harder. I can't wait to read that!

We do get another couple set up in this book, one that I'm really excited about, because yeah, they're more of a Dark Legend couple, with both of them being older Carpathians. Which isn't something that usually happens, most of the time the ladies started out as human, and thus, younger! So I'm excited for them!

I loved this book, and I can't wait for more books in this series!

Week 26 Reviews: Moonshadow, Spellbinder

From Goodreads:
Her past is a blank, her future uncertain….

Recovering from a shooting, LAPD witch consultant Sophie Ross leaves her job and travels to the U.K. to search for answers about her childhood. When she encounters a Daoine Sidhe knight of the Dark Court, she becomes entangled in an ancient hatred between two arcane forces.

He has given his body and soul to fight for his people….

Barred from his homeland along with his surviving brother knights, Nikolas Sevigny is embroiled in a conflict that threatens everything he holds dear. Only by uniting his people's resources can they hope to prevail against Isabeau, the deadly Queen of the Light Court. He will do anything and use anyone to return home to Lyonesse.

When Nikolas encounters Sophie, he sees a tool to be used. The insouciant witch might be the key to unlocking every passageway that has been barred to the knights of the Dark Court, even as a fascination for her takes root in what’s left of his soul.

Sophie has no intention of becoming anyone's pawn, yet the fierce Nikolas is so compelling, she can't deny the temptation that endangers her guarded heart.

As magic threatens Lyonesse, Queen Isabeau unleashes her merciless Hounds, and Nikolas and Sophie become embroiled in a race for survival. Meanwhile, the passion that ignites between them burns too hot to be denied and quickly turns into obsession.

Thank goodness they both know better than to fall in love…

From Goodreads:
From author Thea Harrison comes the latest story in the New York Times bestselling Moonshadow trilogy….

Kidnapped while on tour, musician Sidonie Martel is transported to the mystical land of Avalon. A human without magical ability, she is completely vulnerable to the deadly forces surrounding her.

When she defies her captors and refuses to share her music, an act of violent cruelty leaves her broken, her ability to play silenced, maybe forever. Her only hope is a whisper in the dark, gentle hands that offer healing, and a man who refuses to show her his face yet who offers advice she dare not ignore.

One of the most feared and powerful sorcerers in history, Morgan le Fae serves a Queen he despises, Isabeau of the Light Court. Once a famous bard and an advisor to kings, Morgan has been enslaved to Isabeau for hundreds of years, acting as enforcer and the commander of her deadly Hounds.

Sidonie's music touches Morgan in places he had abandoned centuries ago, and her fiery spirit resurrects feelings he had believed long dead. For Sidonie, trapped in captivity, passion offers a comfort she cannot resist.

But Isabeau holds Morgan bound in magical chains that only Death can break. And in the court of a cruel, jealous Queen, the only thing that burns hotter than love is revenge…

My Review:
Oh, man, these books were so freaking amazing! I really enjoyed the Elder Races, and yeah, it does have some overlap with the first series, since Morgan was in Pia Does Hollywood, and that Sophie was one of the children that the Baron from Shadow's End helped. These books do stand on their own, but I'm so glad that I read them right after reading Elder Races!

We knew that there was something going on with the UK's Elder Races, that Isabeau wasn't the most stable, and yeah, in both of these books, we see the extremes that she went to, with the Dark Fey and with enslaving Morgan. Boo!

I really enjoyed Sophie and Nikolas, they were very different, what with their age differences, and her pop culture references, that was so hilarious, but they fit well together! And that she's able to help them and does, yeah, that was so great of her, because it really started to turn the tide!

I felt really bad for both Sidonie and Morgan. Sidonie, because she was put into this position because Morgan was interested in her music. Morgan because he was enslaved by Isabeau. They both had their differences, and yeah, when he learns that she's now in control of him, that wasn't a good moment. But they worked through it for a good, happy ending!

I enjoyed this series so much, and I really can't wait for the final book in the trilogy, Lionheart, staring Dr. Kathryn Shaw and King Oberon! So excited for it!

Week 26 Review: Now You See Her

From Goodreads:
AMELIA has always felt like a happy life is just out of reach. Having moved every few years with her mom and sister, she's always had a hard time making and keeping friends; there's never enough time, and never enough money to stay in one place. And now, in her senior year, right before tennis season, Mom wants to move again.

SOPHIE has a perfectly curated, Instagram-ready life, from her first singles wins to her cute, long-term boyfriend to the beautiful, landscaped home where she lives with her parents. Though they're tennis teammates, the two girls almost never speak.

But then one night changes everything. When Amelia's car breaks down on the side of the road in a rainstorm, a man she thinks is a Good Samaritan pulls over to help her. When he tries to abduct her instead, she escapes into oncoming traffic.

In one inexplicable moment, Amelia and Sophie switch bodies. Amelia wakes up in Sophie's body. Amelia's body is in a coma. Now Amelia needs to find a way to switch back into her own life—but before that, she must retrace her steps to unravel the mystery of the accident, her attempted abduction, and how it's all tied to her mother's secret past.

My Review:
Oh, I really enjoyed this book! Sure, there've been other body swap books, and movies, there've been coma books, but this is the first that I've really read that has both. Plus there was the whole mystery of who tried to abduct her, so yeah, this book had a lot going on, and it was so awesome!

First off, this cover is pretty darned amazing! Alternating between the two girls, yeah, it's a sharp looking cover and interesting looking! And with the reveals, this cover works so well with the book! Love that!

These two girls really couldn't be more different. Sophie is the rich, popular girl who seems to have the perfect life. Amelia is the outsider who has moved so many times, she doesn't want to get hurt. So have Amelia in Sophie's body, yeah, it's something of a shock to the system!

I really enjoyed the way that this was told! We had Amelia's investigation as Sophie, and Sophie dealing with what had happened, and yeah, it all come together so well! There were a lot twists and reveals with that mystery ongoing with this book, and I loved how it all worked out!

I really enjoyed reading this book, it was so awesome to read!

Attorney Sara Constantine is thrilled with her promotion until she finds out that she must now prosecute vampires and werewolves. The first defendant she’ll be trying to put away? Lucius Dragos, the sexy stranger with whom she recently shared an explosive night of ecstasy.

When Lucius kisses a beautiful woman sitting next to him at the bar, he’s hoping only to avoid the perceptive gaze of the man he’s planning to kill. But what starts as a simple kiss ignites into an all-consuming passion. Charged with murder, Luke knows that Sara is determined to see him locked away unless he can convince her that he’s not a monster. And that might mean making the ultimate sacrifice.

Why the time hasn't come yet...

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating!

The Prince by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Expected Publication: August 14th, 2018
From Goodreads:
She’s everything he wants….

Cold. Heartless. Deadly. Whispers of his name alone bring fear to fae and mortals alike. The Prince. There is nothing in the mortal world more dangerous than him. Haunted by a past he couldn’t control, all Caden desires is revenge against those who’d wronged him, trapping him in never-ending nightmare. And there is one person he knows can help him.

She’s everything he can’t have…

Raised within the Order, Brighton Jussier knows just how dangerous the Prince is, reformed or not. She’d seen firsthand what atrocities he could be capable of. The last thing she wants to do is help him, but he leaves her little choice. Forced to work alongside him, she begins to see the man under the bitter ice. Yearning for him feels like the definition of insanity, but there’s no denying the heat in his touch and the wicked promise is his stare.

She’s everything he’ll take….

But there’s someone out there who wants to return the Prince to his former self. A walking, breathing nightmare that is hell bent on destroying the world and everyone close to him. The last thing either of them needs is a distraction, but with the attraction growing between them each now, the one thing he wants more than anything may be the one thing that will be his undoing.

She’s everything he’d die for….

Wild Hunger by Chloe Neill
Expected Publication: August 14th, 2018
From Goodreads:
In the first thrilling installment of Chloe Neill's spinoff to the New York Times bestselling Chicagoland Vampires series, a new vampire will find out just how deep blood ties run.

As the only vampire child ever born, some believed Elisa Sullivan had all the luck. But the magic that helped bring her into the world left her with a dark secret. Shifter Connor Keene, the only son of North American Central Pack Apex Gabriel Keene, is the only one she trusts with it. But she's a vampire and the daughter of a Master and a Sentinel, and he's prince of the Pack and its future king.

When the assassination of an ambassador brings old feuds to the fore again, Elisa and Connor must choose between love and family, between honor and obligation, before Chicago disappears forever.

These books both look so great, I've enjoyed all the other books in the series and I can't wait to read them! What about you guys? Happy reading!
