My Review:
Wow, I just loved reading this book! I wish I didn't put it off as long as I did, but hey, the whole series is out, and the next series is about to start soon, so I'm in a good spot to just devour everything right now. But I am in need of a reread of some of the earlier stuff, since it's been years since I've read some of the original books!
So this book is a chunk and a half. The final book is even bigger. Even the first one was pretty big, especially compared to TMI or TID books. Part of is is how many characters we're following, I think. We're in a lot of heads, Emma and Jules, Cristina, Mark, Kit, and sometimes Diana. So many, and they're not together most of the time, so there's more story arcs to follow, which adds to the page count.
So much happens in this book. Like Annabel and Malcolm, stuff with the Fey and the blight and the Unseelie King's plot, Emma's attempt to get Julian to fall out of love with her, the Cohort and all the politics there. Oh, and the Kieran/Mark/Cristina triangle that has a lot of potential, for love but also harm. I can't wait to see it all play out!
That ending was just heartbreaking. Just a few nudges in a different direction, and it wouldn't have ended like that. And the world would've been much better in some ways, but there wouldn't have been the growth that I know will happen in Queen, because it has to!
Loved this book so much, it's so heartbreaking and wonderful, and I can't wait to finish off the Dark Artifices series!
