Week 38 Review: Godsgrave, Darkdawn

From Goodreads:
A ruthless young assassin continues her journey for revenge in this new epic fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Jay Kristoff.

Mia Corvere has found her place among the Blades of Our Lady of Blessed Murder, but many in the Red Church hierarchy think she's far from earned it. Plying her bloody trade in a backwater of the Republic, she's no closer to ending the men who destroyed her familia; in fact, she’s told directly that Consul Scaeva is off limits. But after a deadly confrontation with an old enemy, Mia suspicions about the Red Church's true motives begin to grow.

When it's announced that Scaeva will be making a rare public appearance at the conclusion of the grand games in Godsgrave, Mia defies the Church and sells herself to a gladiatorial collegium for a chance to finally end him. Upon the sands of the arena, Mia finds new allies, bitter rivals, and more questions about her strange affinity for the shadows. But as conspiracies unfold within the collegium walls, and the body count rises, Mia will be forced to choose between love and revenge, and uncover a secret that could change the very face of her world.

From Goodreads:
A ruthless young assassin's journey for revenge comes to an end in the conclusion of this epic fantasy trilogy

The Nevernight Chronicle is a complex fantasy series about Mia Corvere, a kick-butt, flawed heroine who trains as an assassin as part of her mission for personal revenge. Her tale takes place in the immersive world of Godsgrave which, although based on ancient Rome and Venice, is imaginative with many original details provided by a beloved snarky narrator.

The Republic of Itreya is in chaos. Mia has assassinated Cardinal Duomo and rumors of Consul Scaeva's death ripple through the street of Godsgrave like wildfire. But buried beneath those same streets, deep in the ancient city's bones, lies a secret that will change the Republic forever.

Mia and her brother Jonnen must journey through the depths of the ancient metropolis. Their quest will take them through the Godsgrave underdark, back to the library of the Quiet Mountain and the poisoned blades of Mia's old mentors, and at last the fabled Crown of the Moon. There, Mia will at last discover the origins of the darkin, and learn the destiny that lies in store for her and her world. But with the three suns now in descent, and Truedark on the horizon, will she survive?

My first review of Godsgrave
My Review:
Yes, wow, I loved reading these books! They were so freaking great! Darkdawn was well worth the wait, and yeah, I'm so glad that I read these books back to back, because they're just that great! I enjoyed them so much!

For some reason, I thought that there was a Truekdark in Godsgrave. I have no idea why, but that was just my impression of the end of Godsgrave the first time. My mind is very strange. But nope, that battle wasn't the big bad one that Darkdawn has!

Darkdawn, we finally learn the origins of Darkin, and so much more! There's so many twists and reveals, and this book just keeps coming and coming! It's so freaking great, though there were losses. And when they find copies of these books, written by her mentor, well, it was hilarious how they poked fun at the footnotes!

That end, though! I had no idea how it would go. Reading it was absolutely amazing, and I enjoyed every word! And it delivered on the promise from the beginning of Nevernight-the city is in ruins, destroyed around her, and she died. How it went about that, was just the best reading!

Loved reading these so much, and I can't wait to read more by Jay Kristoff!
